Heya. Have a question. Are monarch reigns a hard-and-fast setup? By that I mean is it possible for a monarch to live and reign longer than what is specified in the monarch setup file? In my game running Saxony, I've had the same king since around 1424, I think. It's now 1500. I looked at the monarch file and noted that there should have been a couple of other monarchs by now. It's getting to remind me of that sub-paragraph in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that notes that the Emperor of the Galaxy has been near death for many centuries and has been so by medical stasis and as such the Emperor has outlived any possible heirs.

So, is this some crazy fluke or an actual bug and my monarch should have died long ago?

You could slip in a death date for the unfortunate leader ;).

Or erase him from history :D.

I am on 1.01 (dl'ed yesterday), but continued with previous game as I was reluctant to start over just when Saxony was getting on a good roll (refinery in Alsace, vassalized Brandenburg...).

Haha...monarch problems are hilarious... while I was playing as Hanseatic league in EUI Hanstag somehow impossibly "died" and seeing as they were their only monarch a horrible regent reigned eternally after that

Have you downloaded version 1.01 and started a fresh game?

Those guys are reluctant to give up the throne in version 1 :)
They are just as reluctant in 1.01. :D

At least you don't have to worry about them going temporarily insane for 12 months, and then having it turn out to be permanently insane. That bug is fixed. :)

Could somebody clarify on the situation with this bug?
I'm playing a game as Castille, now Spain, which I _think_ I started when I had already updated to 1.01. However, monarch progress has stopped some 50 years ago, it's 1510 and Juan II still rules Spain, Henry V. still rules England (he should be dead since almost a hundred years). Furthermore, editing the savegame to insert a new death-date for any of the monarchs does not resolve the situation, the game passes the date, but nothing happens.
There's a slim chance I started the game a day before updating, but the bug made his appearance definately later.
Does starting a new game in v1.01 resolve the bug or not?
Thanks

I know! I had the same problem! Its funny...I played the whole game as France in the Grand Campaign and i had Charles VIII the whole time. England stopped on Henry VIII and Spain still had Isabella. I laughed though cause they got "Permanently Insane" which in turn gave me the upperhand throughout the entire game!
