Hi,

I have noticed there already mods appearing while the game hasn't been released yet. With all do respect for the people that are trying to make the game better with mods, isn't it a bit rude towards the developers?

Keep in mind that there was a leak at Steam and that an old version was set as a release one.
So people were modding it because it has lots of problem, because it's an old version.

Beside, Paradox got a big history of modders started with europa universalis where we were able to create event and modify some elements. People like PI because they can change the game the way they want it to be.
Some want more balance (or the way they think balance would be meet), some want more realism, some are looking for more fun...

You can't make all in one so CO make a choice somewhere in the middle and so people are trying to change the game the way they prefer. Some are changing the sound for realism, and some are changing the balance (capacity change).
This doesn't means they don't like the game, it means they like it but would like other value set.

If I look at all the old game of PI that I have, I think that I didn't play more than 2 games per version of the original game, I always modify some value to fit my way of playing the game.

Subscribe to the previous speaker's words. I should add that, for example, Reality Sound Mod is created by modification of the final version of the game, which was sent to journalists for reviews.

We don't mind the modding, but surely we hope all of those doing it will buy the full game and see the changes we have made to the game ourselves. And the Steam leak was for one day, then it was locked again. Unfortunate mistake in their end so pre-beta version got out as being "the real deal".

I wonder how modding can ever be rude to the developers?
Developers should embrace the added value to their product, while they incur no costs.

We are very excited to see what you come up with! It has been so much fun to talk with you guys about the game, we got helpful feedback and good suggestions for the future :)

Mods can do things that the devs sometimes can't do for legal reasons. I'm guessing that the reason all the vehicles in CiM have made-up names is to prevent car and bus manufacturers from suing Paradox/CO for trademark infringement, or for making allegations like "this type of bus broke down a lot". This isn't a joke - aircraft manufacturer Northrop-Grumman sued Ubisoft/1C-Maddox for using the trademarked name 'Grumman Avenger' on the box art of their Pacific Fighters flight simulator. Never mind that the Grumman Avenger has been out of production since 1945 (when the need for aircraft-carrier-based torpedo bombers declined sharply); a trademarked name is a trademarked name.

But if CO/Paradox release a game featuring an unreliable bus called the Maurice Futura, which happens to look quite a bit like a NABI 42-BRT, and I show you all how it's possible to change the name of the Maurice Futura to 'NABI 42-BRT' by altering the game files, how can North American Bus Industries get upset with Paradox/CO? :D

I can't really see anything bad with mods. In long term, it makes lifespan for a title longer even after actual developers have stopped producing content. (Good example, SC4)

Mods can also give good ideas for devs which they can implement on next game or expansion. If community has enough interest to produce feedback, do mods to fix some things which annoy them, devs can be sure that they will get lots of feedback and experience which is valuable when they start to produce new projects.

I put it this way. I pre-ordered the game while i play the Open Beta. Sure it is fun to play it as it is but it is more fun to make experiments of my own and discover what i can do with the game. I like that and don't forget the open beta is very short, with one map and one scenario. Devs are/should be happy that we spend so much time on their game. It means it is worth our time and passion for modding and playing.

I apologize. I was not aware of the fact that a copy leaked through steam. I have nothing against mods. As soon as i have played the non-modded version of SiM, its possible i will use some mods, maybe i will maybe im satisfied with the game as it is.
