Depends what you want.

I've been playing around with Dawn of Kingdoms - all counties given 7 possible holdings, all counties indies, formable duchies/titular kingdoms.

Another fun one is Lux Invicta. Fantasy setting, lots of options there.

CK2+ seems to be a popular one but I'm not too certain what it actually offers.

I'm not going to recommend anything but it might help if you say why you want to add mods, or what you want/expect from them?
There are total conversions like Game of Thrones, overhauls like CK2+, balance tweaks like Project Balance, and convenience mods like the "keyboard shortcut" 'mod'. (These are just some mods I know of)

I'm still having fun with vanilla personally.

EDIT: Actually I will recommend the "keyboard shortcuts" mod no matter what. After using it, I can't imagine playing without it. Although I modified it so that pressing L & K didn't lower levies, and I prefer to just be able to mindlessly click provinces and press L where I want to raise levies.

You can try mixing and matching smaller mods if you want specific changes for your game.

As for the main big mods, there are three:

- Project Balance: balance tweaks and game improvements, the closest to vanilla
- Prince & Thane: flavor and roleplaying additions
- CK2+ : general additions and improvement

Overhaul mods include Game of Thrones and Lux Invicta.

My preference is Project Balance, since it doesn't change much but improves the game considerably.

What is Game of Thrones exactly? And also: what's that icon that says "Holy Knight"??

Game of Thrones is a total conversion mod (new map, new traits, new features) based on the TV series of the same name. But if you havent seen the series or read the books its probably not gonna be that interresting.

I havent read the books myself, but the TV series is fantastic. You should definently check it out! Heres a little trailer for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfAE3hIaPm4&feature=related

Edit: The Holy Knight icon is for the first buyers of the game, but only the icon, no extra game features.

My personal favorite is The Prince and the Thane, lots of events and intrigue options.
Second would probably be Game of Thrones, has the best potential as well.

Just trying out CK2+, but it hasn't been as enjoyable as The Prince and the Thane so far, probably because I'm used to having so many events and such.

I'm a Shaytanist myself, so I'll reccomend Lux Invicta.
As for other mods, look to The Prince and the Thane, or A Game of Thrones - CK2+ isn't really for me, but it might be for you.

If you dont want to change vanilla in gameplay terms (cause ive tried out and CK2+ and PttT and i think that vanilla is the most balanced and historical) and just want to make it more good looking you should use:

BLC
Patrum Scuta
CST
thats what i use...although right now ive change some names like byzantine = eastern roman empire and francia = western roman empire and im also trying to make control rome as a requirement for western empires to be created(spain, britain and francia)...i also use basilica tribuo in some games cause religion is i believe the only thing that need change!
