So I've been modding for a bit, and I've noticed that some mods on the steam workshop is in .zip while others use regular file directories. My own mod uses regular files--I previously assumed that mods were placed in .zip by the workshop during the uploading process but that appears not to be the case.

So is placing your files in a zip something done manually? Is there a benefit and should I be doing that for my own mod as well?

If someone could chime in, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

I got the impression that the new launcher zipped them up automatically at first, but now does not.
