I posted this to the Steam forum but nobody there seems to know what's wrong.
After being away for a while I started playing Stellaris again. And found most of the mods I installed weren't compatible. Ok, that's expected. A lot of mods - smaller ones especially - don't get updated regularly (or, sometimes, at all) for new patches. But then I started inspecting some, like the 'Civilian Trade' mod, and the 'ZBeautiful Battles' mod. And the workshop pages for those (and some others listed as incompatible by the Stellaris launcher) describe them as updated for 1.8 (Windows version, 1.8.3)
I tried unsubscribing to them and then resubscribing and Steam still won't update these mods. I tried deleting the mod files in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\281990 but Steam didn't seem to realize anything was wrong and Stellaris just reported that none of the mods were now compatible. (There seems to be no way to tell Steam to check to see if the mods are up-to-date.) I finally tried uninstalling the whole game and reinstalling it and it still didn't update the mods.
I finally checked the Linux version of the game and *it* saw the updated mods. (version 1.8.3) But I'm not gaming on Linux right now because reasons (using most of RAM on the linux box for other stuff right now). So 'just play the linux version' isn't a solution.
What's up? How do I force steam to update them, seeing as how it doesn't want to update them automatically? Or if they are updated (which might be the case) why is Stellaris mis-reporting them as incompatible?
