A friend and I have been trying to make playset of different mods, they are the same order and everything but it says we have a different version of Stellaris. Does anyone know how to check to see which mods are doing this or if there another way to solve this?

Did you get the mods from the same source? Is either of you using a beta branch to play an odler version of the game?

If you're absolutely sure that it's the exact same mod list in the exact same order, then it may be that steam failed to forward a mod update to one of you. So unsubscribe and resubscribe to all mods to trigger a fresh download for everything.

Alternatively, use Irony Mod Manager to combine your modlist into one local mod and share it with your friend.

my friend and i had an issue similar to this awhile back

not sure if this will be faster than unsubbing from the mods and then resubbing [I have heard this won't always fix issues of mods not registering the same checksum]

but it may help

what we did what made a playlist consisting of mods I knew worked just fine and then started adding on mods to the playlist a few at a time, then loading up Stellaris to see if the checksum differs

when we hit a different checksum we knew one of the mods we added on was borked, so we went 1 by 1 until we found the culprit

then we removed that from the playlist and continued adding mods on until there were no more issues

thankfully we only had it happen once
