Mods and swastikas

Is there a mod/Will there be a mod/Could someone please make a mod featuring the use of the nazi flag for german units? I am in the US so displays of such things arent illegal, and I feel strangely malcontent with the current set up...

I must admit, this kind of mentality does strike me as absurd. (ok, certain flags are illegal in germany, fair enough and ok, camps could take things a bit too far)

Lets be realistic, this is a game that includes national socialist germany. Why tip-toe around the issue? Im assuming that this game includes Hitler? References to him are ok but flags are not?!? How is a part of this regieme are ok to show but others are not?

That the soviet regieme was in some aspects more brutal than the german, conveniently gets glossed over as well...

And on a seperate note, I dont like that we are forbidden to even discuss such topics. (again this is a WW2 simulator, its kinda part of the package)

I mean, the decision has been made and we cant change it, so why the ban on discussion? Is the site run by the SS or something? Bit of hypocracy there IMHO...

The difference is that the German legislation does not allow portraying swastikas in non-educational or non-artistic products. Granted, HoI2 is both but for that to be accepted by German courts Paradox would have to win a lenghty and expensive legal battle.

Now you migth ask why they aren`t in the versions sold elsewhere. The question lies in the costs, it`s much cheaper to make one version instead of several ones not to mention the inability of the Germans to play MP with non-German players.

The same discussion has been done soooooooo many times and there have been two results. Either just a "no, they won`t be in" with some explanations or if left to last longer some nazi wannabe freaking out and getting himself banned due to insults and obscene language and behaviour.

Thats fine. I dont even want nazi flags per se. I just dont like being told I cant discuss it, in the sensible reasoned manner that we are.

The fact is, like it or not, that this is a privately owned forum and not a public one and the owners set the rules here. We agree to those rules when we register. Hardly fair to join just to complain. What's more, freedom of speech does not apply since this is a private forum. One has the option to take their business somewhere else. I may disagree with the policy but have to face the fact that the site owners live with certain legal restrictions and liabilities and could be legally punished in their own country if they broke their laws...would we care to see Pardox taken offline by government watchdogs? I for one would not. As the saying goes, one must learn to live with it.

I see what you mean and for the most part I agree.

But, the point I was trying to make is- that by the very nature of the game, we are (in some sense) already 'half' discussing it. I kind of think that the certain topics we are not allowed to discuss 'come with the territory' so to speak...

I am sure the community would appreciate the end of these type of threads. They have been done to death. Spend some time with the 'search' feature; this is a waste of bandwidth.

That being said, there are numerous things at StonyRoad (I doing some of it), so there is no issue with needs being met.

If the need is to discuss what you want, where you want, as you want then indeed we as Westerners have a real problem with 'entitlement'. Which I am personally sick of.

Could a mod please kill this thread?

Look, this is Paradox's board, they make the rules. While I think they might have gone a little bit over the top with this policy (for example, there could have been a download link on the website, that could hardly be considered to violate German law) I respect their right to regulate their site as they see fit.

Still, they have gone as far to satisfy our craving for authenticity as to allowing (at least I don't think there were any consequences, but what do I know, he?) one of the mods to mail out the historic flag to all who asked for it.

If one of you guys in this thread can't find it anywhere else, just PM me your addy and I'll send it to you.
