Mods and DLCs Not Appearing In Launcher, Mod Content Not Loading

This isn't an issue I myself have had, but it's a frequent issue with people trying to play our A Game of Thrones mod - for many of them, this is their first time playing Crusader Kings 2, or for that matter, any Paradox game, so they're encountering a variety of problems. I've been trying to help them out, but at this point even I'm not sure what's going wrong.

The first problem seems to be linked to Patch 1.05f somehow. Upon activating the Launcher, the panels that usually list Mods and DLCs fail to appear, making launching a mod impossible. One of them helpfully uploaded this image to show what it looks like:

The second problem seems to have multiple possible causes. Users report that they can start the game with our mod activated, but despite this, the game only loads vanilla. They insist that they have correctly installed all mod files, so I'm really not sure what the problem could be.

Any chance you could help?

The problem of you reporting this is that you can't neceserly answer all the questions. For example it could be helpful to know if this is happening to people using windows or mac version. Have these people tried to reinstall the game to fix this problem and if so did they also delete items from the my documents -> paradox interactive -> crusader kings ii folder as some files there might also effect things in the game. Can they load any other mods or is it just your mod.

Hi there. I confirm that this is happening to me personnally, as well as a friend of mine.

I am able to play CK2 just fine, but the launcher has never shown the "Game of Thrones" mod for me.

Here are the things I can tell you (- please ask for more if you need more data) :

- I'm playing CK2 on the Steam version of the game

- My steam files are all located on D: instead of C:

- Reading some tips made me delete completely anything related to CK2 in the "My Documents" folder that I found on C: . It did not change anything.

- The mod files, as well as the mod folder location, seem correct.
I tried pretty much everything there (believing that I did something wrong) from the basic instructions, to creating a "A Game of Thrones" folder in the original "A Game of Thrones" folder after reading something about it. None of it changed anything, so I got back exactly to what I was supposed to do with the .zip of the mod (there are currently 9 folders in the 'D:\Softwares\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\crusader kings ii\mod\A Game of Thrones' folder, respectively named 'common', 'decisions', 'events', 'gfx', 'history', 'interface', 'localisation', 'map', and 'Traduction dynasties (French)' ).

- When I did a complete file check on steam, it found 1 erroneous file or something, and Steam had to download it again. I did it several times since then, and nothing was wrong since.

- I did not re-install the game yet. But since I was brought to delete my saves now, I might as well do it, if you ask me to

I'm sorry but my comp is in french language by default. So there may be some things that you won't understand on the screen - if so, I'd be please to inform you. For example, the bottom-right folder is the "My Documents" located on C:, and the text in the folder says - in french - "This folder is empty". This example is pretty straight-forward, but one never knows...

Anyway - please ask me anything. I'm really looking forward to playing this game, as an avid GoT fan

I have another thing to try before you fully reinstall the game. Delete the ck2game.exe and do the steam validation again. That file is the launcher exe. Can't say 100% that it would help but its better than trying to install the whole game again. Still I can say that mods work on steam version as I myself have played that same mod and there has not been any problems. So do that and if that doesn't help reinstall the game and delete the game folder manually and the folder in my documents.

I'm having this exact same problem.

Running on Windows 7 -- steam version.

I've tried everything I could find in this thread, the GoT forums, and elsewhere, and nothing seems to change the behavior of the game at all.

I open the launcher through steam, check the box next to A Game of Thrones, and hit go, and the game loads up in vanilla mode every time.

This is infuriating, because it is essentially the entire reason I bought the game to begin with!

Has anyone been able to actually resolve this?

Did you do a complete clean reinstall? uninstall the game from Steam and move any valued save games elsewhere. Manually delete the CK2 directories from under the Steam AND MyDocuments folders, now reinstall the game via Steam.

I think I need to resurrect this! Because yes re-installing has fixed it in the past but eventually it goes again and it only lasted a few sessions this time before the mod and DLC selections disappeared completely again.

Crusader Kings II with all official mods on steam





This is a terribly hard bug to deal with because i desperately want to play the game of thrones mod. Luckily the official mods are auto-ticked so I don't have to worry about them too much perhaps until the Muslim mod comes out.

Can someone please tell me this is being looked into seriously. My internet is too slow to cope with re-installing being a "solution".

I have the same problem.
I dealt with it by not bothering to use the mod directory and just overwriting the vanilla files.
So, I can't play vanilla or any other mod.

I have the same problem. Just bought it on steam with all the DLCs. Nothing is showing up. Reinstalled twice now. Maybe it will work this time.

Same thing here. Win 7, steam version. At first game would crash on loading flags bit during startup, but had all DLC. reinstall didnt help, so i deleted my Docs, CS2 folder. This made the game work, but now DLC wont show up...

We're trying to track down the issue, but we're having some trouble reproducing this.

In the mean time, a question: if/when you DON'T play with mods, do you play through this launcher (the one that fails to show the MOD) or not (e.g. you click the ck2 exe directly) ?

in the meantime, making a shortcut to the ck2.exe (not the launcher) and adding the following to the command line

-mod=mod/A Game of Thrones.mod

should allow you to play the mod.

I'm having the same problem. I tried doing the work around shown above. But I don't know how to access the command line. Could someone help me? I also want to try out the Crusader Kings 2 plus mod. So what would would I enter into the command line for that?

Do you know how to make a shortcut to a file? Do that, and then go into its properties. In the Shortcut tab, Target field you'll see the whole path to the ck2.exe in quotes; BETWEEN the ck2.exe and the ending quote type in -mod=mod/A Game of Thrones.mod (including a space between the .exe and the - ). You can also rename the shortcut appropriately in the General tab there.
