Since AoD is based upon HoI2 I assume that the editors designed for HoI2 will work just fine as modding tools. Unfortunately the editor that came with DD isn't very functional and it seems that just about all of the old editors that people made for HoI2 are no longer able to be downloaded. Needless to say, this really puts a crimp in the potential of AoD so I am hoping that the long time PI fans can make a list of verified editors or perhaps someone that has them could start up a super cheesy web page that lists them and makes them available for download using copies held by the HoI32 fans here.

Perhaps because editors aren't very popular in the community as they are full of bugs.

I'm still dreaming of a bug-free editor which uses the game's map on which you can add countries and assign provinces to them easily ...

I'm not sure what community you're talking about but it's not the HoI2 fan community. I used to use several editors (especially the leadership and map editors) all the time as did a lot of people. They did have bugs and were quite popular at the time. Interestingly enough the official editor that came with DD was no damn good.

The lack of support for moders is a huge disappointment because they added so much to HoI2 and, it would seem, HoI3. I also found out that the HoI2 wiki down and since that was huge asset to anyone serious about HoI2 that strikes me as another huge set back. Without editors and the HoI2 Wiki it seems that modders will have a very difficult time with moding AoD unless they are highly motivated and experienced.

Sorry, but the tools I use for "modding" are notepad and Excel - the old DD editor always screws up the files it edits, IME. The one thing I can imagine needing a better editor for is the map, but I have always steered clear of that. I agree that a spiffy editor would be useful - if it was bug free - but I see no widespread demand for one...

As for editors that worked on HoI2 - they should work on AoD, but it might depend on how they are structured. Where AoD has additional, optional fields in the files, these may or may not be accessible in the editor. Examples of this would be the "clear terrain" lines in the modifiers file, the 'national ideas' in the country .INC files and the oil and supplies capacity lines in the units files; these are all optional (i.e. the game will use a default if you don't enter them), but you can define them in AoD... But... the editor you use may or may not recognise them/allow you to add them.

Clear? ;)

I've never had a problem with the DD editor after you change the doomsday.csv (I don't have the game on my computer, it might be slightly different name) to read only... afterwords you can mod to your hearts content with the editor with out a single problem... Take your favorite country and give them cores on the world, change the OOB and what ever else you want ;0).

Clear. The fan made editors most likely won't work fully. That is a real bummer as is the prospect of working with word pad or excel. Hopefully the mod community will support AoD like they did HoI2 but somehow I doubt it.

Please tell me more! What exactly do you change on the editor and how do you do it exactly?

The editor is actually useful if you want to modify some scenario data, some minor techteam related parts and check province name and IDs, but other than those it's beter to mod other files manually.

One thing I founded quite early on was that always make backup of config folder before you edit something, as most often after you save the stuff you did with the editor the game howls at you with tons of errors that localisation not found or so, and that's where reapplying the old config folder comes into play.
