With salic law your dynastie never dies out (so no surrender), when there is no heir in your rulers characterscreen and you have salic law and when your ruler dies, a random character with your dynastie name will inherit, the socalled 'country cousin'.
With semisalic law your game can end when you have no heir with your name, since semisalic law traces inheritance also through females (=daughters), they can get kids who don't have your lastname but who can inherit you.
And with semisalic primogeneture is is very likely that someone not of your dynastie will inherit, since I believe then if your oldest child is a daughter and she gets a son, he will inherit you meaning game over. So better not switch toe semisalic primogeneture
Damn, so that is why I seemed to never been able to continue, despite having plenty of successors...
My character had plenty of children. Only, they were ALL girls. I thought that the very principle of setting the dynasty line was to play whoever inherit, perhaps as long as he's related to you. I'm a bit put off by this, as I planned everything since ten years to prepare for the inheritance of my grand-child, believing that, as he's, well, my grandchildren, I would be able to play him.
They should have made it a bit more clear. But well, after all, it somehow make sense, once you understand that you play the DYNASTY, and not the bloodline/country/county/whatever.
I guess I'll have to switch to salic primogeniture/consanguinity (as I've not mal heir, I suppose that it will make a random guy pop up from nowhere and as such there is not really any difference).
By the way, as we're talking about inheritance... What's the avantage of primogeniture over consanguinity ? As I understand it, with primogeniture, you're stuck with the oldest guy, while in consanguinity, you can at least have a way to chose the best one for the job. But I suppose there is some "hidden" bonus, like the "salic allows you to continue and not be screwed because the child hasn't your name", so ?
Oh, and also : what's the advantage of semisalic, then ? As it stands now, the only difference I can notice with salic, is that you just get the chance of being thrown out of the game, with no advantages. Why even propose it, then ?
(it's just a shame that women aren't allowed to inherit, even if it's to pass the title to their husband)
Also you as a player can always decided what inheritancelaw you want to play with. The inheritancelaw of your liege doesn't count and he can't just change your inheritancelaw either.
So vassals and liege don't have the same inheritancelaws.
Yep, I noticed that when I was set to "semisalic consanguinity", and nevertheless inherited the duchy of my liege when he died despite us being not related at all.
Feudal law gives a 1% loyalty bonus each month.
Ah. That's quite something.
How much is the penalty for royal prerogative ?
EDIT
If you want to be able to rule a large demesne you could also change the statistics of your dynastie, give your ruler an intrigue value of 500 or something, that way his demesnecapacity is almost enough to be able to rule the entire map as his personal demesne.
Mmh, didn't think of it. Well, for now I'm deep into the "playing vassals" game (I said it that I would try it in time ^^), but I may want to start rampaging in some other game. I suppose there is a trainer somewhere on these fora that allows to do that ?
