HOI2 has greatly improved and the added scenario and cold war event is amazing. When is the modern era, like the after end of the cold war starting from the end of cold war until now and the invasion of Iraq by USA event will be introduced? I cant hardly wait to try the HOI3 with this new campaign and scenario!

Trouble is (and people don't seem to get this) Modern Warfare is so different that it might be impossible, or the product may come out stupid. Modern Warfare is more about Counter Insurgency than anything else. The actual fighting is always an easy victory for U.S. forces. There would be maybe 3-4 countries worth playing at all. The interface would have to be nearly 100% overhauled. Not only is that asking too much from P-Dox, it would be abandoning the last "good war" for a nuke fest.

I completely agree wit ZO+, although I don´t like the phrase 'good war'.

In my opinion HoI is not able to handle scenarios longer than 15 years. This is because there´s no real economic let alone social simulation taking place. HoI in my opinion is by far the best game for the simulation of war economy and the actual warfare. If Paradox would try to enhance their game so one can play it as a long time (> 50 years) simulation, I think they would have to reduce the warfaring part. And I definately wouldn´t like that.

I think though that HOI3 should actually go back, include ww1 along with ww2, but as 2 diferent scenarios, unless they could introduce the great depresion wich would force all built up forces to be disbanded so that nations are not stacked for ww2. Or maybe extend the time frame a little more and include the korean war, but no more than that because the next major war is the us in vietnam, but that would just not work in HOI. because after korea, war tactics changed and major battle between several divsions did not hapen much from then onward to now.

Yea, It would be nice to be able to start before Wolrd War one and play till like 1954. Events for great depression would have some hinder countries somewhat. (IC drop, miltiary forced to disband or something)

Obiosuly land docs would have to be changed up abit somehow.

well see the problem with having 1 long scenario is basically the research involved, righ now the thec tree is basicall filled up, but imagin how crowded it would be with that many more thecs. maybe they could make 2 sets, so you can switch to a diferent window when the year alows it. But i still think it could work.

I completely agree. There are a number of issues that emerge as time passes:

1) Resources are already piled up by the time war starts in the '36 scenario. That's a mere four years, forty years would be ten times worse.
2) Tech trees can be expanded, but tech speed is a major issue. With the current system small countries fall increasingly behind. In reality a small country should be able to maintain roughly the same distance from the technology leader.
3) No connection between IC and manpower - and IC can be expanded far too easily. Like the two or three factory runs many German players make, only much more extreme.
4) Lack of diplomatic options - the Cold War was, after all, mostly a diplomatic war.

Well thats sort of why i said 2 diferent scenarios could work beacause of all the stuff that could go wrong, and to actually stop all of the stacking 1929 to 36 or even 39 would be the worst time to play through and people might jsut give upa fter ww1.

Yea, It would be nice to be able to start before Wolrd War one and play till like 1954. Events for great depression would have some hinder countries somewhat. (IC drop, miltiary forced to disband or something)

For a human player there is mostly only one World War when playing ... if the scenario starts in 1905, the player can prepare for WW1 or can try to avoid it and later fight WW2 ... if WW1 takes place, the fighting will continue until one of the sides is defeated ... and then there is no need for WW2 ...

The scenario WW1, WW2 mostly influences the techs and units you can use ... so it would be a nice challenge ... but I don't think that it is possible to have a somehow historically stable world over such a long time when war is involved ... it is to easy to keep annexed nations and there is no easy way to get rid of them by releasing them without huge dissent ...

In Hoi2dd, world conquest is possible since simulation of nations and economies etc. is kept simple ... but in real history, complete world conquest never happened ... [and it probably will never happen] ...

Also ... who would like to play a historical WW1 when there is almost no benefit but only costs and depths which collapse your economy and reduce your possibilities to prepare for the later war with nice tanks and real bombers ...

Going Back to WW1? I dont like that Idea.

The reason being is I hate when I play a game that is good for its time then all of a sudden the next one goes back in time. Whats the hole point of playing around with new technology in game then going back to old. Doesn't seem fun for me.

How bout the Scenario goes up from 1936 to 1973. Its just 20 years more from 1953 ending in doomsday.

Here's an idea. Buy Victoria. Then buy Victoria:Revolutions, finish the 1914 scenario through to 1936 and export it to HoI2.

So you actually will be playing two games from 1914 (or hell, 1835) through 1954.

Everyone stop with all the stupid ideas to include WWI. You can already do it.

I guess there are 3 possibilities that I'd really like

1. Focus on the ww2 period still, but increase the depth of the combat models and other things maybe - so basically HoI2/DD but better.

2. Extend the peace time element of the game so it can encompass longer periods - sort of a HoI2/Vicky mix (Keeping all the military complexity of HoI2 tho)

3. Extend the game so you can play several different periods - for example ww1, ww2, cuban missile crisis

If you're gonna expand beyond covering just WWII, Paradox will have to start modelling social and political behaviors of all these countries in detail. HoI2 is an excellent WWII game with a good combat engine. It is not, however, an excellent country building game. A Vicky or EU style game would be more appropriate for a game that deals with the Cold War or Modern Era (or the interwar years). And with that shift from combat to political/social simulation, you'll probably end up with a dumbed down combat model.
