May need some work. Why dont you start building events
Because I'm not that skilled. I guess I'll wait for the release of the event-making tool

Hello I have question. I've never played Darkest Hour vanilla nor HoI2. Now I've noticed that there is price drop for Darkest Hour on Gamers Gate. I'd like to play strategic game in modern universe and here is my question- does this game focus only on warfare or can we also play diplomatically and only support diplomacy by use of force?

Darkest Hour and the HOI series mainly focus on warfare.

Here is my patch for MDS2 ver. 0.1
The main idea was to make playing for Russia more interesting.
1) About 600 CIS generals edited according their experience and education. Real appointment and retirement years. (Russian generals were edited completely, others partially).
2) Russian army locations edited like it was in 2003. Where it was possible to find I appointed real generals who managed units. (I haven't added aviation and rocket divisions because the game crashed with them. I try to find out why and want to add them to the next version.)
3) Some events were added:
- Terrorist attacks in 2003 (Znamenskoe, Mozdok, Moscow, Kislovodsk)
- Kasyanov retirement and Fradkov appointment
- Acts of terrorism in 2004 (Moscow subway, Nazran raid, planes suicide bombings in Russia)
- Russia-China Border agreement 2004
- Shamil Basaev and Aslan Maskhadov elimination
- Akhmed Zakaev extradition
- Sochi Olympic games (infrastructure investments)
4) 'Unitnames' file was edited. Russian naval divisions will get normal names.

Pay attention! This patch should be used with Modern Day Scenario 2 from the first message of this topic.

I'm going to continue work and add more events for CIS countries. It is done more or less till 2005. I always try to add only real events and even alternative decisions will have close to realism outcome. No Soviet Union revival or something like that.

So I understand that those mechanism haven't been tweaked in any degree in this mod. The game is still about having wars most of the time. Is thist correct?
How does AI handle this in modern day universe? Constant wars with neighbouring nations?

HOI engine was made for WW2 times to simulate wars. Peacetime management is much simplified. You can build infrastructure, new units, manage espionage, science and diplomacy. AI doesn't attack without specific conditions. So you may live without constant wars, but it's boring. This mod contains many historical events that help user not to feel forgotten in peacetime. ^^

Hmm, okay I did some testing to find out what it is that causes the game to crash in 2006 when Israel declares war on Lebanon. I used the "acceptall" cheat to diplo-annex Lebanon, then declare war on Syria- crash. I did the same thing with Syria and it crashed when I declared on Lebanon. I diplo-annexed both of them and then released them as puppets, and declared war on a random neighbour - crashed.

It seems it doesn't matter who is involved or how. As soon as Lebanon or Syria is involved in a war it crashes just before the day is about to end. And it doesn't seem like it's due to some faulty event either. Might it be a problem with the AI files?

Also, the HoS and HoG of Bhutan don't show up in game, despite being defined in the ministers file.

Update: I tried playing as Syria, declared war on Lebanon and successfully conquered it without it crashing. Then declared war and conquered Israel - still no crash. I then started a new game as Lebanon and declared war on Syria - crashed just as the day was about to change.

I wonder, is it because Lebanon does not have a specific AI file? I noticed Syria has one, but not Lebanon.

Playing as Lebanon, I declared on Israel, but did not attack. Three days went by without a crash. I then attacked them and it crashed as the fourth day was about to end. It seems that it crashes when Lebanon and Israel are involved in a battle with each other.

Looking through the history log, it seems that the thing which happens at midnight that makes the game crash is when NATO declares war on Syria/Lebanon.
