I also prefer Globalism and Nationalism instead of open/closed society. It suits MDS much more due to modern day flavor. Market and Planned Economy also sounds very nice because middle way is then Mixed Economy. And what about Conscripted Army and Professional Army for mobilization sliders?

I do agree with CocoBZ about Defcon seeing as it deals with mobilization id see it as more a Volunteer versus Conscript army type

But have you considered renaming the Free market/Central Planning slider to Capitalism/Socialism seeing as thoose have been the two main economic theories that dominated the post WW2 world

Socialism as opposed to Capitalism is not really just an economic system but a socioeconomic one, whereas capitalism is not a social system but merely economic attitude - not even an economic system (state capitalism for example is not really a free market system).

DEFCON:

I've long wanted to do a defcon system and I finally got around to doing it.
Level 5 is lowest and level 1 is the highest level.

The defcon currently designed, gives manpower and ic increases as the level rises towards level 1. Since the new techs already have a majority of US based technologies, I don't see a problem in having a nato/usa defcon system. I'm not aware of any other similar system???

CORPORATOCRACY:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporatocracy

Changing from Free Market (which is a system that does not exist anymore as all markets are now rigged) and Central Planning:

I saw a need to change from Free Market to suit the 21st century slide towards the economic nonsense we all are familiar with in our daily lives. Central Planning, I just fancied some other word.

So, after much reading on a subject I found corporatrocacy, which I'm sure after you have read the wiki, you'll agree matches better the economic system arising in the early 21st century in the West. State Socialism probably is as good a wording as the former term.

Interventionism and Isolationism, no need to change
Hawk lobby and Dove lobby same
Using the previously locked mobilisation slider gives a defcon system
Free Market, see above
Open Society / Closed Society, yes this also needs to be changed as we proceed from a Free West to a non-free western society (would you agree?)
Political Left / Right, again I'm SO disappointed in our Lefties, where are the demonstrations against the loss of the Freedoms we have all enjoyed in the West, which are now being eroded before our very eyes, and no-one seems to rebel against it...

.. so probably a Less Open Society and Fully Closed Society?

Democratic / Authoritarian, probably ok for now?

I intend to keep the DEFCON system, unless of course you can convince me otherwise. ... :)

novapaddy can you please give us longer explanation of current state of mod

The mod has been withdrawn for an overhaul of the basics, which guys keep complaining about. When it is released again, it should be more of a finished article than it is now. When I'm tinkering with small stuff like policy_effects, it's just that I'm too tired to contemplate anything bigger. I also do graphics when I'm tired of doing events and working with text files.

Recent releases were trials of stuff I wanted guys reactions on.

The next release will contain a new scenario, the first of a few, set in 2003 which will use the mod as it is as a background only, and concentrate on one large war at at time.

First scenario will be China Breakout.

Political Left / Right, again I'm SO disappointed in our Lefties, where are the demonstrations against the loss of the Freedoms we have all enjoyed in the West, which are now being eroded before our very eyes, and no-one seems to rebel against it...

Because the USA have this:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_speech_zone and the media have a far right-wing bias so any left wing protests are not reported as much(unless they become violent). Also in the UK we have undercover police officers who "infiltrate" these same protests to "provoke" the protesters to become aggressive. The war on terror is really the Cold War part 2, the difference is it's not the reds we are trying to fight not but the browns.

Also China does not want to become a world power through military purpose, they would like the current status quo. China would try to expand by economic might. If a possibility of war does arrive it could be due to the Korean war resumed again.

I agree with Samilou... But I would see them more as events.

another possible event:
-Second Chechen War - russia vs islamic terrorist (Chechnya and Daghestan) Start 2004 end 2009.
-Russia and China intervention (military or not) civil war in Libya and Syria to the side of the loyalists vs rebels.
-Russia and china intervention (military or not) if USA invades Iran

Someone posted a while back that he reckoned that most of the posts in this thread were caused by internet "spiders" and "...? database updating??", but certainly not guys interested in seeing what was going on here.

I'm beginning to agree with him, since I've not posted here for a few days, and yet still more thousands of "views" are recorded, but no comments.

The mystery continues...

Essentially the same. If their no updates then theirs nothing to comment on.

Nothing to comment on?

No opinions on what you liked, or didn't like, or would like to see.
I'm only asking since I've been trying out a few things on this mod and haven't had much feedback, but I've got LOADS of "views".

As posted before, I'm not currently working on this mod. Although, I do still dabble when I come across something I can use to fix or change for the better...
But I'm still looking at ideas and reviewing what I've completed, with an aim to either continuing forward, or reverting back to an earlier version.
Because stuff takes so much work to do, I stop working when my path ahead isn't clear.

So, your comments would be invaluable right now, as it might just be the key to helping me find a way forward.

Thanks

I might as well throw in some observations I made in my France game. The American AI is terrible, Iran overran Iraq without a fight, brings back memories of the awesome AIs in Homeland that were quite smart, and great at naval invasions. The Shanghai pact chain is a bit odd, when the CIS joins Armenia is left alone as the sole member of the CIS, perhaps you could kick them out of it too, as it seems kind of odd to have a small nation the head of a faction. Which reminds me that Albania is the head of NATO/EU, and the US and UK are by themselves not in a faction.

Back to the Shanghai Pact when Turkey joined they immediately left, same with Pakistan. Meanwhile in Europe Germany and Poland mass built MOABs, I mean I don't see why not, but still odd.

Hmm, I hope this doesn't sound to negative, its still an amazing mod. As I've stated before the IC levels for the majority of the world are well done, and you can actually build up your military now. The tech tree is absolutely amazing, but I don't understand why the legacy techs for 2000 or is it 2005, I forget, reduce your IC, but besides that the tech tree is great. There is very little lag, surprising for a mod of this size, and the variety of units and unit attachments are cool. Ever since Homeland's early days I thought special units (Jungle infantry, special forces, ect...) were a nice innovation, and its great to see that that idea is still being expanded upon. All in all, I can't wait to see what the future has in store for this mod.

Thanks for the excellent feedback, critical or otherwise. I just want to hear an honest appraisal of the mod and will act on what I read.

Yeah, there is a problem in that I didn't write the events, so lots of stuff happens that is news to me.. all the time.. I have tried to get a grip on the events, but it can be hard to fathom what the original guy had in mind when he wrote the event in the first place. This is why I wanted to totally re-do the mod. But it may just be too much work?

More recently, I've discovered that my event-writing skills are very rusty, and is another reason why I started working on Homeland, as it will get me back in the saddle as well as giving me a bit of RnR away from MDS. Homeland still has those 60 new units, but MDS doesn't as every time I add new stuff, all I get back is criticism. Guys seem to be hellbent on just having a historical mod, so in that case, we'll just spend lots of money on armies and have lots of peace in the world.. I mean no major wars.. SO, the mod has to go ahistorical to make it a war game...

And of course, as a modder, when all you get back is criticism, you stop modding and go and do something enjoyable to do instead.

But this mod will be back, soon enough after I've re-done Homeland, which as I've said, is preping me for all that AI and event-writing that is badly needed.
