I don't want to be able to conquer the world as Guinea, but I do want to be able to play a minor and have fun with it. And, is being able to rebuild colonial empires really so unrealistic and impossible that it should be impossible in the game? On the contrary I belive there should be events that modeled the new scramble for Africa between China, the United States, and possibly even the EU. This is going on right now, at least according to the BBC which may or may not be entirly accurate. The people of many African nations are suffering from AIDS and many other horrible diseases. If a foregin country builds railroads, increases infrastructure, builds hospitals and schools and provides food and water and fully supports the people of that country in ways their own Govt. simply cannot do, do you think the people of that country would take up arms and force the occupiers out? Perhaps initially and certainly the people happy with their lives beforehand would wiew the occupiers/liberatiors in a hostile way but the majority of people probably care much more about being able to prosper, be healthy and live normal lives than foregin influence in their government.

The "race for africa" that is happening now does not include occupation, but only access to raw materials. This means huge investments in infrastructure and mines etc. Pluss, the high world price of raw materials is benefitting the African continent. It is not exploiting like the colonial empires. Neither would any people desire to be occupied even if they where given everything they need. It is called nationalism, national pride and dignity. That is the reason India declines all economic aid.

A nation like India, which has had a national identity for 4000 years, and a nation like Chad, which has never actually had a national identity because the borders of most African countries were drawn by Europeans, should not be compared in this way. Many Africans (not all) are more strongly tied to their historic tribes than their "countries". Otherwise, the Africans would have all rose up an thrown out the occupiers the moment they set foot in their countries.

Well then, you can throw TRP,CORE and Cold War Mod in the bin, because there's no way you can get away with gobbling up the Balkans without those countries joining a large alliance there either.

If enjoyment means getting away with things impossible in the given context,Quake,Unreal Tournament and the like await.

HOI2 is a historical simulation/wargame,and yes, that means as a minor you'll be piggybacking majors or get stomped by them should you go annexing left and right. Boo hoo hoo.

There is absolutely no way, after 8 months and counting,I'm going to transform MDS into Starcraft or Command and Conquer or other such bone-headed Hollywoodian over-the-top stuff.Because only in Hollywood movies can you get away with firing a machinegun in the middle of a city and not be swiss-cheesed by the police (that and GTA).Which is exactly what you're proposing : rampage without consequence. Not happening. Those games exist,go play them. MDS2 is a mature mind's game that doesn't need to be on a sugar high to be entertained.

Enough with the strawmen.
Nobody wants any of that. All we want is that you don't pacify things to the point where no war happens at all. People play this game to simulate war, not to sit around doing nothing. If I wanted to do that I'd play as Switzerland.

I'm just saying, have at least some situtations in which war can occur by the players' own dong.

I wouldn't say that India has had a national identity for 4000 years. Today's India was also a construction of the British colonialism and India doesn't possess a language which all Indians can speak beside English.
How is progress going on with 1.6? Do you have an approximate release date?

Your game must be patched to 1.3a. It won't work with any other patch.

it's like every nation got its balls cut off.

interesting concept, extremely well done, but the vast majority of nations have little/no IC with which to actually build armies or research techs at more than one at a time, it loses the fun value quite quickly. And when the people playing your mod are the ones that actually enjoy a game such as HoI, thats a problem.

better luck next time.

I think your review is incredibly unfair. While the mod definitely needs work, your problems with it seem to be with the reality of the situation in the modern world. However, i will agree that it does need major work. I tried playing as Iran, and found that it was all too easy to declare my own war on iraq and then to simply ally with Russia, which blocked the russia chinese alliance from happening. One thing i must mention is the failure of the authors to capture the reality of what is going on in the middle east. Iran actually has very good relations with all of it's neighbours, while in the game, they are portrayed as a pariah, and actually start with a negative relationship with turkey, which doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Anyway, i'll play a few more games before i make a final judgement. However, i would like to know if the team that put this together is continuing with the project and whether or not their accepting contributions...
