A star wars series of events could be fun and could be another possible way for the US and Russia to go to war. You could have an event where you could choose to fund it or not (it should cost alot) and when finished maybe it eleminates the chance of countries going nuclear against the US.

I was playing a game as China and I attacked India. The world could careless and not even the Indians really cared because I have 0% revolt risk in all provinces.

Pakistan would join up with the US vs China not vice versa

I wish China and Russia wouldn't start with so many military access, only the realistic and the ones that make since.

I think the whole WW3 is too forced right now. There should be multiple ways of it starting each with a low chance of occuring thus making each game even more unique and replayable.

Hi all!
I consider this mod a great return, but I've a problem running this new version.
I can start the game without problems, but when I choose a country and the game loads I get this error message:
Error: (ai-prefs:unexpected field) 'max_staging_distance=5' line=303 file=ai\per-2003.ai
I've installed DD just for this mod, so it's a fresh installation... and I've followed all the install instructions (fresh dd -> patch 1.3a -> preinstaller -> installer -> hoi.exe patcher -> new airplanes sprites).
Please help, I would play this great mod! ;)

EDIT:
this seems the same bouscher's problem. :-\
If the problem is the single per-2003.ai file, can we solve the thing simply substituting it with a certainly-working version?

2nd EDIT:
it seems that now is working: see my next message ;)

Woah I played a game last night as Russia and I think the US starts out with more tanks!!!!!!!! I don't know if you had access to accurate tank numbers, but in 1998 the Russian Army had 18,000 tanks and armored vehichles
USA had 12,250
China had 8,000
I think I played as China and they had more tanks than russia too

Russia is super underpowerd. Most European countries have better starting military tech (severly inaccurate). Russia should be 2nd in starting military techs to the US and maybe better in some areas. Also I think they should have more IC. Russia probally can't overrun Europe anymore but the rest of Europe shouldn't be able to overrun Russia either.

Well, I've tried bypassing the PreInstaller and now it's working!
For those with problems: try unistalling all DD-concern things, reinstall DD, patch it with 1.3a, copy the whole folder somewhere if you want to preserve the vanilla game, install the mod in the copied-DD-folder, execute the hoi2.exe patcher and... try to play! it worked for me, and seems that there aren't in-game problems.

I've got a question for DEVs: do you intend to create some other scenarios? I think that should be awesome (for example) a 1990 dated scenario, at the start of the first gulf war... and/or maybe one with a 2001 ambientation, after the 11/9 and the attack of Afghanistan... but don't misunderstood, those are simply ideas and I'm very happy with "standard" 2003 scenario, especially now that is working ;)

Here i am, reporting the exciting game i've had so far!
First, the bad things:
Playing as Russia, i joined the Shangai Pact via diplomacy at the end of 2003, and then i noticed the events to form the Shangai Pact don't fire if Russia and China are allied! I removed that part from the event to allow the event that makes the rest of the central asian countries join the SP.
Some model pictures for airplanes don't display correctly. They look all "pinkish" in a crazy gif kind of way. Specifically the Improved Air Superiority Fighter model (Su-27).

Then, the in-game report:
I began a game as Russia... I went on an IC whoring campaing, building nothing else but Airbases, Infra, Radars and AA until 2006. Now i have around 230 IC (don't remember my base IC), and of course my 5 tech slots. I annexed Belarus via events, and annexed Ukraine via war. I built 10 Garrisons+MP and 10 Infantry Divisions. The garrisons are in the Ukraine suppressing partisans, and the Inf. are guarding coastal provinces and strategic locations. I've been trying to upgrade my forces... But i'm still way behind. I need like 2300 IC per day to upgrade all of my forces, and most of them are 1 or 2 models behind of actual models.

In short, around 2006, Syria declared war on the USA - then it got annexed by them and Israel. Later on, the USA dowed Iran, Saudi Arabia joined on Iran's side. After a hard fight, Saudi Arabia got annexed by the USA, and Iran was getting wiped out, they even lost their capital a couple of times - but then they joined the Shangai Pact. Without notice i was at war against the Coalition. I sent my troops to Azeirbajan, paradroped from the Caucasus into northen Iran, and then marched the rest of my army there.
To make a long story short, between Iran, 75% of my forces and China's Airforce, the USA was kicked out of Iran and Iraq, and now only has about 8 land divisions left (according to intel). They have taken all my islands east of Vladivostok. Like i care :))

What worries me is that the Royal Navy and the USN are roaming the northern sea and the baltic sea, doing continous port strikes and amphib assaults now and then (luckily i had garrisonned all my coastal provinces beforehand). I've had to sent my fleet to fight against horrible odds to try and sink something and send their fleets away from my coastal areas, with mixed success (i've lost one Heavy Cruiser :( )
I'll keep on playing and kick the USA out of Arabia, and see what happens next.

All in all, thanks for the great mod, i'm sure it has been a great deal of work. It's been an enjoyable mod and works pretty well so far. Looking forward for future improvements. In the future i'll see if i can help with some events and ministers for Mexico.

Multiplayer AAR

2006, March

China (later all Shanghai pact countries): me
USA: my friend

The goal: China is going to invade Taiwan, USA can declare war when this will happen.

USA build mainly airforce and ships because of its very little MP.
China build ships, marines, paratroopers and fighters, naval bombers for the invasion.
Iraq annexed and puppeted, USA got a few good iraqi divisions.
Taiwan will be not easy, 10-15 divisions on the beach, and a remarkable airforce.
USA deploys further airforce to Taiwan, currently 50 air units on the island.
China build a few carriers but the battle against USA naval superiority seems hopeless. The same is true for air-force.
As chinese generals think, at least 6 marines (with eastern armor), 4 paratroopers (art) and a few mountain divisions needed for invasion.
Taiwan can be beaten as single player tests showed but with help of USA it is very questionable.
After Shanghai pact, China get military control of Russia.

I think at next session: WAR!!!

You're definetely right. Russia should be a lot more powerful, they are way too weak except for their handful of nukes... The Europe and especially the Coalition overrun Russia extremely fast (everytime that I played...)

Just to be different, I decided to play a game as Japan (note: I cheated by bumping the Interventionism slider over a few places so that I could join the Coalition, but played normally afterwards).

It seems that Japan is something of an untapped powerhouse! The modified IC system, with IC builds halved in their efficiency but boosted by vast modifiers (my current IC modifier is something along the lines of 330%) makes it extremely cost-effective to increase your industrial power (at last count, my IC in 2012 was 440/104 or thereabouts, from a starting figure of around 277/77). Naturally, I've maxed out on nuclear reactors so that my nuclear engineering research is boosted by some ridiculous figure, allowing me to complete research into the Fusion Power tech tree by 2011, gaining a massive 35% IC modifier. Perhaps the IC modifiers should be toned down a bit, or IC made more expensive to build, if possible (are IC builds hard-coded to require 5 IC each time?)

However, I don't want to imply that my game wasn't fun, as it was. When the war with the Shanghai Pact (which everyone with the exception of Tajikistan joined), Japan got to play the role that Britain played in WW2, with Coalition forces using it as a staging ground for the invasion of China and Russia. My air defence grid, once I got it up and running, was eventually able to win the battle for the skies over Japan and it's coastal waters, and my revitalised navy took on the Russian and Chinese Navies and defeated them in a series of close range engagements. Eventually, Japanese marines opened up a front at Vladivostok, enabling the Coalition to take the war to the enemy. Meanwhile, India and Poland carved up the rest of Eurasia, with Greece taking most of northern Russia (including St. Petersburg and Murmansk). The 2013 world atlas is going to be radically different from our current one!

To sum up, my criticisms would be:

- Very easy to boost IC, and therefore my overall power
- Tech trading was extremely easy. The USA, while rarely offering up techs, was willing to part with blueprints for about $100 each
- Tactical bombers are too expensive and deliver little appreciable benefit. Strategic bombers are only about 1-2 IC more expensive and have about double the soft attack value with comparable hard attack values
- Japan had no events. Fair enough, it's still early days
- My air superiority path was set to Aggressive AS. I'd have though Japan would focus on Defensive AS, myself

However, on the plus side:

- The game is extremely stable, far more so than previous versions of MDS
- The naval combat is spot on. Ships are so expensive now that the larger ones are extremely valuable national assets (I'm only now, in 2012, building my first carrier, and that won't be ready until 2014)
- Infact, the vastly increased costs of all units make the game far more fun. No more million man armies marching across Eurasia; you have to make do with powerful but small and supply hungry units

I think some balancing required. The Coalition is very powerful if we see the IC points but Shanghai-pact is far superior in manpower. The Coalition can build practically only air and naval units. Perhaps a little bit IC boost to Russia and a little MP boost to USA would be fine.

If anyone wants to help with ministers, this is the place to start :)

Killerrabbit, Zokan, I could begin write events for Japan (or any other country), if you think.
Just a short storyline needed because I can't read your team forum.
If I can read the storyline, I would write back my ideas about event and if you confirm it I begin the coding.
