This is a HoI mod that will start around 2003. We have not yet decided the future so any suggestions are welcome, but we work with a Europe, USA, China triangle.

The further into the future you go, the more theoratical the research and units become.

We should also remember that the game engine is probably best used for major campaigns of counquering territory. I don't think any terriorist group should represent one side, the game engine simply wouldn't handle them. However one side could be an alliance of religious fanatical states.

Could someone with the game please tell us how many tags we have to work with? Please, please say it is more than the 70-some that someone else alluded to. There are a lot of ideas I'd love to share for this, along with any help I can otherwise give, but it's going to be hard to work with so few nation tags(if 70some is the real answer).

How about the Triangle being

The west (Europe and the US)
The East (China and communist allied in Asia)
And Islam

Going with my earlier post in the MDS forum China and some allies with their growing power say 2015 or 2025 strike a weak Russia and an Asia not ready for war ( mainly Japan and Taiwan but also South Korea and Malaysia to head of the US )

The Chinese would seek an alliance with Islam Mainly Iran and Pakistan and that would eventually lead to war in the Mid East Israel and India.

As Russia falls and the War spreads Europe would eventually join probably Britain first when India gets hit then the rest as the Chinese reach the Volga.

Uh, okay....or...WWIII started by a war between Pakistan and India (nukes) or potentially India or China, but that's not quite as likely.

Or for a fun scenario, not quite as unlikely, with monkey-man Bush in control, a dictatorship US invades and annexes Canada, goes south through Mexico, starts expanding their influence. A not quite ready Europe needs to get ready to stop the menace. At the same time, China takes the oppertunity to invade Japan and western Asia

That is funny part. We can create almost any weapon we like.

Agree. The triangle with west, commies and Moslems sounds interesting.

Nothing needs to be historical correct. The important part is the fun factor.

We can use all ideas and create a series of scenarios in our very own future.

So far there are no limits. We can end up with the united smurfs if you like it:D

There is a thread with all tags in the FAQ forum.
I counted the tags to around 140 including U00-U19.
Some are hardcoded though.

And I like to hear your ideas:)

Here are some ideas that is posted in the MDS forum.

Around 2100 (IIRC) USA dissolves (if that is the correct word) religon. Through this several revolts break out and it is very unstabel in the rest of the country with riots. Soon several states and unions between states declare them self independent. The revolt spread and now more turning in to a revolt against the goverment and its bad running of the country. At the same time a military coup takes place in Washington. On the west side of the country several states makes an alliance with China. China promise to help them against their aggresive neighboors if China gets Alaska. Well something turns out very wrong and China occupies them and from their foothold in the east they now attacking the closer states.

But the biggest event happens on the east coast. Pressured by an attack from several states they sign an agreement where they recognise their independent. Also they must change their name. USA is no more. But atleast the military goverment survives and they also sign an agreement to defend each other against Chinese agressiveness.
On the west side China launch a great attack. Several states fall in to their hands and its puppet states. But the attack stops a few months later and the chinese are stuck somewhere in middle america.

Great changes happens in the East. Through some skilled diplomacy several minor states falls in to the hands of the Northeast alliance(NEA). It is now the greatest in both size and poulation of the independent states. But they want more. China is stuck so they see they oppunity. To make it short. They declare war on the military goverment. After several battles they reach Washington. Even if they are outnumred by they decides to attack. And what an attack it is! The young talanted leaders from NEA solemnly crush the army.
After this victory the war ends quickly. Several generals change side and soon the military goverments land is added to the land of NEA.

A few month China launch the second attack. NEA sees it oppitunity. If you join us we protect you where their offer. But they get the cold hand. "We can protect ourself" was the answer.
But they cant and more and more states joins the alliance. NEA now starts building on the defence against the chinese. But the chinese are unstopable and soon middle america falls to their hands. Soon the NEA can count the states left using their hands and one foot.

But as a gift from God the Chinese presidents(or the one with power in China) dies and most of the genarls returns home to upcoming power struggle. The attack is put on hold and NEA starts working on a new plan. While back in China its getting hot and several general calling home their soldiers. NEA sees its oppitunity and launch an attack. The chinese defence falls apart and crossing middle america they meet little resistance. But now they reach the east side and here is the defence much better. China has hold this places for several years and build up a strong defence suring this time. But civil war breaks out in China. NEA allies with one of the sides and as part of the agreement the east side is handed over to NEA with the expetion of Peoples republic of Alska.
NEA now in a cemeronie a few month declares themself the united states of america. They start working on a way to reinstate the american empire.

This is an idea by Kyran and detailed by me.

140-some? That's way better than I thought.

For the triangle, I personally like the idea of:
* NATO-US led. The Western Democracies.
* The Taipei Pact-Chinese Led. China and it's future satellite/puppet states.(Taiwan, N. Korea, SE Asia dictatorships, etc.)
* Arab League(The swing vote side)-Saudi Led. Moslem Fundmentalist governments. Nations run in the style of S. Arabia and Iran.

I love the idea of going into futuristic tech. It really lets you go any way you can think of in development, just limited to the scenario makers imagination.

Some interesting ideas you can run with on this idea:
* US/UN Inspections of Iraq. Using this real-world flashpoint as a template, you can create a few different "Policing the World" events. Nation X is found breaking a weapon treaty? Offer to send weapons inspectors to end embargo. Nation X is now forced with 2 options. A boost to their economy as sanctions are lifted, at the expense of all technology and research in the Nuclear Tree. Or you tell the UN to piss up a rope and start a war.
* I like the US/Chinese cold war feeling a lot of you are talking about. It would create an interesting foundation to build all the other ideas we have around. Potential event-driven flashpoints could come from Taiwan falling to China(Creating the "Taipei" pact, much like the Warsaw pact of old), a second Korean war, re-militarizing Japan, the industrialization(and building up friendly regimes) of Africa, etc.
Quick ideas that popped into my head
* Terrorist nuke detonates in Jerusalem.
* India/Pakistan, or the South Asian Holocaust.
* A fundamentalist coup of Mexico.
and on and on and on....

Once this scenario gets some steam I'd love to help in any way I can. :)

I just got HOI and from what I see it would be easy to convert to a futuristic scenario. Some of today’s tech is already modeled like VTOL fighters and helicopter warfare and even the interesting nuclear powered battleship. :D

The engine seems to be able to handle small wars for a limited time but is geared towards massive worldwide war and I don’t think smaller anti terrorist wars or Iraq like things would work very well. Though things like this could be used to lead to larger wars.

I suggest the old classics, US vs China vs EU etc. Like you said earlier, the game engine isn't really suited for many minor nations batteling it out, mainly due to the fact that minors have limited diplomatic options.

Here's few suggestions for the alliance triangle and backgound stories.

By the year 2050 the world's population has surged past 15 billion. There is now a crunch on food. The western nations can grow enough food for themselves but not the rest of the world. The overpopulated nations need more food to feed their starving populations. The 3 sides would be the western nations that don't want to share(lead by the US) vs the overpopulated starving nations that need food(lead by China) vs the nations that aren't starving but don't produce much food. In this setup we'd need to replace rubber with "food". Perhaps to make it important require IC's to need 4(or so) "food" as opposed to 1/2 rubber. Likewise the overpopulated nations would have huge manpower(obviously ;) ) out of porportion with the rest of the world but lower starting tech. This would allow them to attempt to overwelm their enemies with hords of the starving masses.

In the year 2015 is the first manned mission to Mars. Soon after the western nations begin the colonization of space. By 2040 the colonies have proven to be an utter failur and the economies of earth have been wrecked with trillions of dollars wasted on the effort. Now the recriminations begin. The leading nations want to make a second attempt at space and accuse all the others of not pulling their weight. Smaller nations that helped accuse the leading nations of forgetting about the people on earth. The remaing group got rich off the first attempt and now see an opertunity to take advantage of their neighbors.

By the year 2100 earth IS paradise. No war, little crime, no pollution, no armies, etc., etc. A secret organization takes advantage of all the pacifists. They begin a campaign of terror, destroying universities, assainating sceintests and destroying the Global Information/Communication Net. (Like the internet but a billion times more useful ) Their goal is to make sure they are the only ones with access to knowledge. After about a decade the United Earth Government successfully discovers this organizations command center and destroys them. Unfortunatly by this time the world is in bad shape. While technology continues to work few people have any idea how or why. If it breaks down it can't be easly repaired(for those of you who play battletech this is along the lines of what happend after the fall of the first Star Leage). A key resource would be "knowledge" probably replacing oil or rubber. This would bo mostly concentrated in cities. Basicly you wouldn't be discovering new knowledge but "rediscovering" existing knowledge. If the event engine allows it there could be random "rediscoveries". The 3 sides would be the United Earth Government that is trying to reestablish itself over the earth vs nations were people became disillusioned over the lack of protection the UEG offered and nationalism took hold vs nations that allied with the secret organisation over the decade.

One thing about resources. I think in any modern/future scenario there should be some changes - if possible.

-steel should represent iron, alumminum and titanium
-oil should also represent alcohol made from corn. (I'm thinking of this since in Indiana they have a law that requires a % of fuel to come from ethel alcohol. With genetic engineering I'm sure crop based fuel could be made very useful.)
-rubber should probably be replaced with something

suggestions for stuff to add
-electroninc, everything needs electronics as a base "resource" in this day of age (maybe replace rubber)
-energy, everything needs electricity (maybe repace coal) it would make regions were wind, solar, geothermal and any other place that produces energy far more important.

Sorry havent been around for a while.

I like ACAD's idea about a great earth empire that falls apart. It can be a good idea to work on.

PriestofDiscord's ideas arent bad either. It could be a nice cold war in let us say 5 years and then hell arrive. It could be like the original game with USA and China as bitter enemies and the Moslem's to choose side. The scenario can start with USA invading Iraq.

Edit:Changed the dumb frace in the beginning.
