trinkets = cars, computers, electronics?

EDIT: And may I remind you that mass-producing trinkets and beads and shipping them overseas built empires.

Oh yeah, I see lots of Chinese cars, computers and electronics. The only thing I see alot of is Chinese food. Trinkets and beads built empires  ? If you believe that there is no point in discussing this any further. Those factories churning out little plastic souvenirs can be quickly and easily retooled for heavy industry? Puhleeeze  The fact that China pretty much relies upon slave labor and protectionist trade policies is the reason they can even give the illusion of competing on the world market. Force China to play by the same rules that the U.S. does and watch how quickly they collapse.

Well, Opium, Tea and Tobacco did help fund the British Empire, and Japan and Taiwan did pretty well rebuilding their economies in the post-war era from "trinkets". And China doesn't necessarily need to have lots of heavy industry- arms are a fairly liquid asset (except for the embargo, but that might end soon).

And about protectionism and slave labor- look at farm/sugar subsidies and also the Marianas island.

China just has a large labor market, and plus, its STILL recovering from YEARS of mismanagement in the 60's and during the GLF. There's growing social unrest, and workers are starting not to take it any more. More workers have cell phones- if a company doesn't pay up, they call their villages/go on the internet and spread the work that the company doesn't pay. Also, I believe the government is in the process of reigning in the "capitalist class"- look at the Chen Liangyu arrest in Shanghai. The government wants nothing more then to stay in power- if something threatens that, then they will deal (or attempt to) with it.

Oh yeah- IBM is now owned by Lenovo, a Chinese company- I think they're manufactured there too.

Hey, so do I! Let's see... take apart a computer, and you'll see "Made in China". Look under your TV, and you'll see "Made in China". Look at the back of your stereo, and you'll see "Made in China". There's already a bunch of Chinese cars in Southeast Asia, Europe, Latin America and South America. Coming soon to your North American auto dealer in 2008.

Dude, I see that every day.

You are from NY, correct? Remember how Manhattan Island was bought? With beads and trinkets.
Big Ugly said:

There is no need to. For every factory churning out plastic souvenirs, there's a factory churning out guns, tanks and planes.

Ach... more baseless accusations. I doubt you have been to China at all. If not, STFU, 'kay? You're not qualified to talk about China if all you "know" about it are what you heard from the Blue Team or Free Tibet (with every purchase of a Tibet of equal or greater value). Oh, and they are competing on the world market, and doing admirably well. The CPC must be a master cabal of lvl 20 illusionists...

Funny. If China can play by the same rules that America does it would so completely dominate the world. Unfortunately, America's rules state that it is the only one who can play by those rules.

You have to take something into consideration when using those numbers; China has much more industry than shown in those statistics. It just produces cheaper products/lower quality because there is a marked for it. They could produce more expensive products with ease, but there is no market for it. The somewhat lower quality is reflected by lower techs in the game, and you, as a China player, should be able to produce as much as the US. (But the US-stuff would be more high tech)

Inda doesen't have a huge industrial output, but it earns lot of money from the telecommunications sector. (Not the part who produces cell phones) This should be reflected by higher IC, so India can produce the military stuff they in real life buy from other countrys. (Since it is impossible to purcase)

This goes for other countries to.

About the disscusion about China the guys above me had:

This is supposed to be a happy tread. Let's not bicker and argue about who killed who!

Before I start, great mod, shame about it being pretty much unplayable for me, the performance hit in vanilla HoI2 annoys me way too much and the DD version crashes so often it's unplayable too :(

I have one little niggle though, and that's how the UK is shown, for example, why has London got only 22 manpower? Tehran in Iran has 40 something manpower and has almost exactly the same amount of citizens as London.

let's not forget that the beginning units are for some reason 1980's troops, while Israels are the modern 2002/3 troops. Which I find odd considering that the UK has the secondmost powerful (In terms of power projection, there was a table on Wikipedia about it, but I can't find it.) and in terms of technology.

Just a little feedback, keep up the brilliant work :D

I disagree. There IS a market for expensive high tech products. The reason China does not produce them is because they are a LOW tech country, at least compared to the U.S. and the other Western industrial nations.

Why aren't there any elections for even the United States in MDS? I saw one with Spain, but it didn't look that important.

Dopn't forget China. The Blue and White porceleins were so demanded by the world the Ming became the major player in the world economy for centuries, and the irony is, the Ming didn't even like the blue and whites, prefering the older more plain porceleins.

I'm still around

Ughh, I've had a month of computer hardware disasters involving the whole home/office LAN + business complications.

However I do hope to be able to get back to supporting this great MOD with research and suggestions soon.

hocus pocus

This is surely most strange. I applied the notimelimit patch on the hoi2.exe, still i get the victorious hubba bubba when i start a scenario? I have never experienced this before with notimelimit patches, and i have tried around with alot of things now, re-installing etc. without any luck. Is this something anyone else have experienced?
