This stuff's a few days old so forgive me if something's already been covered, but I have some ideas for events/storyline ideas, some OOBs and tech teams for Canada.
Events/Ideas
Don’t forget the events in Lebanon just recently involving the past president being killed and protests telling Syrian troops to stay/go, not to mention the government resigning. I think there should be at least an event or two in there for Syria and Lebanon, and other Middle Eastern powers as well. This could possibly even be a way to start a Middle Eastern war in early 2005 with Israel wanting Syria to move troops out of Lebanon so they can have it, or something along those lines. An event involving the Lebanese government resigning could have something for Syria about installing a new government (Event options something like: Allow the Lebanese people to choose or Install a pro-Syrian puppet government)
Possibly another war breaking out between the nations that used to be Yugoslavia and other powers in there like Romania, Bulgaria or Hungary seeing this as a chance to seize more land and trying a ‘peacekeeping’ event in there. This also works if there was a coup in one of those nations and a power-hungry ruler came to power. The Western nations could oppose this, of course, and even have trade embargoes or something, although I’m not sure if that would work with the HoI2 system.
Maybe a civil war in one of the major nations that split off from the USSR or that Russia tried to conquer during WWII like Finland or Poland between pro-Russian rebels who want to rejoin the USSR and the regular government. The Russians could get events asking whether to send aid to a side or other, or to sit back and watch. If they watch, when the war’s over they could rush in to seize the territory. This would work especially well if there was a Russian civil war and Putin was ousted. Possibly even the whole democratic system could be destroyed by a civil war or coup and they could revert back to Communism or some form of despotism.
Don’t forget Afghanistan being a puppet state of the US with American troops stationed there.
Some minor stuff, but a lot of nations will have claims on different countries, especially in Africa. Ireland will have claims on Northern Ireland, Iraq (If it still exists) will have claims on Kuwait, the Middle East all has claims on each other, and Russia will probably have claims on different parts of the old USSR.
There should be some storyline centred around Cuba and the Caribbean and Central American nations. Don’t forget apparently the CIA is trying to kill the Venezualan Prime Minister/President (Can’t remember which he is) again. Maybe there could be something about Fidel Castro, possibly him dying of ‘natural causes’ and the US trying to move in to install a capitalist society while Cuba itself tries to remain communist. Maybe an incident involving Guantanamo Bay.
China going after Taiwan should probably be done with events to begin with, given their penchant for negotiating recently. The events could go something like China asking for Taiwan to be given back to them, because it’s rightfully theirs (Territorial claims) and Taiwan and the US having events asking what to do. If they decide to give it back, it gets handed back to China and the US should lose face in the international world, given the fact that they’re guaranteeing Taiwan’s right to be independent. South Korea would probably break off really strong ties to the States, as well as Japan disliking them a lot. All their really close Pacific Rim allies would despise them, wondering who’s next for China to just grab and take, as apparently the US wouldn’t stop them. However, denying Taiwan could lead to an event where if they decide to go to war over it, both China and the US lose ICs (The US moreso) because of the loss of trade between the two nations, and the Chinese propping up the US economy, given Bush’s massive deficit that the Chinese and Japanese are supporting.
There’s a great article about China and Taiwan and China passing a new anti-secession bill
here
Also Syria and Iran recently signed a Self-Defence Pact so if the US holds off an invasion of Syria/Iran to 2005, they will have to deal with both of them. That would probably just be an event for both Syria and Iran saying “Sign the Pact” or “This Pact is not needed” to try and stop US aggression. The US would get a little event too, saying “These nations have signed a pact etc…”
Israel should get an event whether or not to create Palestine and give them some land. If they do, their slider setting should change towards Dove Lobby and possibly Democracy as well as raising their standing with a bunch of major Western powers. There might also have to be an event for Israel, the US or other nations involving the defence of the newly created Palestinian state and who would handle it.
Maybe an event about the blackout in the States and Canada on August 14, 2003 just a few months after the game starts. It could lose a lot of IC for the nations for a day or two, then gradually let up. Power wasn’t fully back until August 18, and we could have one of those “Minus 500% of daily supply income” or something for it.
Canadian Tech Teams
Some tech teams for Canada. Some of the ones from actual HoI2 should work, but we should have these ones in as well:
University of Waterloo: Skill 9 Mathematics and maybe something else like administration. It’s the best university in the world for math, and that’s my justification.
Air Canada: Fairly high skill level Aeronautics, Mechanics, aircraft testing and possibly other aircraft-related stuff.
Possibly JetsGo, or at least an event involving the bankruptcy of JetsGo. If it is a team, it has to suddenly die in early 2005, pissing off anybody who has it almost done researching something. But with or without it being a team, there should be a JetsGo event where you get an option to prop up JetsGo temporarily to allow the customers to get home (Loses you supplies and money) or to allow the passengers to be stranded, which raises dissent.
JTF2: High level land tactical tech team involving small unit tactics, individual planning/courage and more small-scale stuff. Canada’s secret super-commandoes.
Diemaco: High level General Equipment, Electronics, Training, maybe Artillery – These are the guys that make artillery, weapons, NVGs, etc. for the Canadian military. Most of them are US designs that Diemaco takes and eliminates any flaws from. They’re very good at it. I can’t find whether they’re the ones making the artillery for Canadians or not, but we could say they could make some for the purposes of the mod.
McDonnell: Fairly high level Aeronautics and all fighter-related stuff. They made the CF-18 Hornet, one of the best Fighter/Attack planes in the world. Canada should start with that (It’s a fighter/multi-role fighter, not an Interceptor) that’s very good at both ground attack and air superiority.
Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Technology and Engineering: Air Doctrine group. I’m not quite sure what it’s really good at, but I know it’s the Canadian Air Force training place.
We should keep de Havilland from the original HoI2, although nowadays they rarely make fighters, they’re mostly transport planes. We might even be able to get rid of Air Canada if we take this one, although it would be cool to have Air Canada in an HoI2 mod.
I always forget if CN (Canadian National Railroad) has been bought up/destroyed yet. If it hasn’t it should be an Industrial/Management tech team with a fairly high rating.
I think we should keep Halifax Shipyards from HoI2.
Yes, I realize I’m giving Canada a lot of good tech teams, but that’s because we have them. We do have a lot of good stuff, and we are pretty good at it. Hence the fairly high ratings.
A Couple Questions
I’m not sure what nations you’re planning on being able to liberate, but I think that Tibet should be one of them. Considering the whole world hates China for annexing Tibet, if you weren’t able to liberate them after taking China, that would be silly.
I’m also wondering how victory points are going to be divided. Obviously some of the provinces from WWII won’t be worth as much strategically now.
OOBs
Russia complete with locations of where the troops are based. (

I’ve got China complete with Land, Air and Naval forces and listings on what kinds of vehicles they use for Tech Tree purposes. (

I’ve got the Iraqi OOB pre-US invasion – sort of. (

And I’ve got something that may come in handy for you guys. It’s the CIA World Factbook as of January 1, 2004 with detailed information on every country in the world. (

A note on the helicopter carriers: Frigates usually carry a helicopter on their back, and carriers usually have helicopter contingents. Has anybody thought about what the aircraft contingents for carriers are gonna be?
