I could give my 2 cents for the project and construct (at least partially) a models.csv file for land and air units. I would like a pre-made base for it, but if needed, I can come up with suitable unit classes myself. For the latter option I would at least need the info how many unit classes there will be in which group, and so forth.

Well, Models.csv isn't going to be very important in our mod at this point (because we haven't even figured out the units yet), but we can use all the help we can get.

I planned on doing the models.csv, but I think everybody would agree that you are by far more qualified than me :D

Well, I wouldn't start yet, since we haven't even came up with the techs yet, but as soon as I can I'll get you a list of some of the model ideas and model names I want.

Thanks for your help!

As I said in my first post, I'm up for that task as well. Of course I'd need some guidelines for the job. :)

Well, we don't even know what catagories/slot types/# of models of units to use yet, so you are going to have to hold off for a little while :)

Yeah I understood that. But I can help figure out those as well.

Well, the slots are like this:

HoI - MDS

Inf - Motorized (3rd Infantry)
Motorized - Airmobile (What 101st Airborne does sometimes)
Mechanized - Heavy APC Cav (Like Mech, but SLIGHTLY futuristic, and more powerul)
Marines - Marines
Panzer - Panzer
Mountain - All-Terrain Foot Soldiers (2 models, The Normal Asian Foot Soldier, and a trained U.S.-like All-Terrain survival troop)
Paratroopers - Paratroopers
Militia - Guerilla/Partisans (.0001 speed, good jungle effec., OK Defense)

Why make it so hard? I see no reason to change infantry, motorized infantry and mechanized infantry anywhere. All three exist today as they did in WW2. I also don't see no reason to replace militia with some immobile partisans. They could stay as weak infantry units, representing the irregular troops many 3rd world countries field.

Here's my suggestion:

Militia - weak irregular foot troops
Infantry - normal foot soldiers
Motorized - truckborne soldiers
Mechanized - infantry supported by IFVs (Bradley, BMP, CV90) and/or heavy tracked APCs (M113, MT-LB)
Cavalry - infantry using wheeled APCs (Fuchs, Luchs, Pasi) and/or wheeled IFVs (LVS, AMV); these units would also represent the specialized airmobile and other similar units
Mountain - as suggested by MartyWolf: special force kind of infantry troops - skills depend on (expensive) techs, so you can make them eg. specialized snow, mountain and jungle troops. The more you train, the more they'll cost.

Nah, we are definitely going to change it, the old way isn't good, I and others like the new plan better. I'm pretty much guarenteed that we are going to change, the new idea is so much better. Sorry :(

..errr...remember that the mod only goes around 10-15 years in the future. And even in the future I doubt they would build something like that ;). It simply isn't all that practical. I think it would be interesting if the later levels of tanks used solar technology, meaning no energy requirements. For weapons on the last level tank, it would likely use a combination of missiles, EMP, and old fashioned machine guns (Apache Style).

Marty, can we keep mechanized divisions as they are, but make the semi-futuristic unit a model gained in tech? (AI always builds the latest model). There is a difference today between mechanized troops and motorized ones.

The idea of a hover tank w/ Lasers is definitely a no-no.
Motorized troops today and mechanized today are almost the same, in the fact that NO countries use plain vehicles (Normal Wheeled Hummers, etc.) to do a complete mission. Air Force and Navy style wheeled units are only used by support crews and MP's these days, not for real troop transport or assualt.
It's pretty obvious to somebody who studies modern day military that the system I proposed will definitely be the better way than to "keep it like it was in WWII" style vehicle systems.

Ok, what is the difference between a normal US division and a "mechanized" one? Once that distinction is made, I think we can progress.

Well, I've repeatedly stated it on the Modern Day OOBs thread to Buke, and we've come up with a solid meaning for the Modern-SemiFuture Helo-Airmobile and the Modern-SemiFuture Heavy Mech Cav.

I think I stated it on 1-3 pages back from the last one :)
