Specifically I want to mod the Artru mission to give me the SLDF Black Knight and the SLDF Griffin as well.

We have updated our Community Code of Conduct. Please read through the new rules for the forum that are an integral part of Paradox Interactive’s User Agreement.
It looks like it's in milestones/milestone_423_notifiy_highlander.json. Similar json is repeated in milestones/milestone_632_notify_atlas.json, so I'm pretty sure that's the code to add a new mech.
I haven't tested it, but I think you would need to add two more Mech_AddRoster entries, one for each mech using the appropraite mechdef_ names. I think you can have multiple Mech_AddRoster entries in the same milestone.

I got around to testing it today and am now driving around in new SLDF 'Mechs.
