On same development diaries and other post, some of the developers gave useful information on modding.

Since we still have some months of waiting, it would be interesting to see info of formats and resolutions to sprites, portraits etc, or maybe even some samples...
With this we could start doing some modding material before the game is out.

How about we start to collect that info in on a threat or possibly in HOI4 wiki?

I know you're eager, but let's not put the cart before the horse.

It's going to be kinda hard to mod a game we don't even have our hands on...

Besides, we would be basing everything off speculation and the limited info that's released to the public. Not to mention, many of the things in the game may change before it's released, as the devs are still working on it.

It would be kinda a shame to spend hours making a mod, only to find out that it's not compatible upon release.

I do agree I would like to get some info on how to make portraits. For me this will be the biggest problem modding the game. Everything else can be done but art, especially portraits, will be incredibly hard and it would be useful to be able to work on that before release.

Exactly. Art is top priority, and the formats are unlikely to change.

Podcat confirmed there are 'plans' to support a steam mod workshop. I don't think it's far-fetched to say there may be official mod tools, or at least the game will be easily moddable in a lot of ways. In HOI 3, there have been art and picture mods for units (Francesco's Models Mod), leaders, province pictures (Colored Province and Urban Pictures), and map textures (Black ICE), and the interface has been able to be shuffled around. I'm hoping for that much at last.

A tutorial or DLC tool for how to create art for modding the game would be a dream come true. The game looks very nice with its ministers and companies and commanders, but without help adding new releasable nations or generals, or adding different leaders is going to look terrible compared to he game itself. (which is counter to the "HOI4 is more mod friendly" idea)

The OP looks to mainly be talking about art, and art is something that can be done ahead of time with a fair degree of confidence, and it's unlikely, given the UI's pretty set for things like leader portraits and production/tech trees, it's unlikely to change much. I have a vague memory that @Vonboe may have heard something already in his modding thread.

Of course, modding in gameplay stuff like new units and tech trees at this stage would be premature, but there are some things people can be working towards. An anime makeover mod could have most of the work done pre-launch, for example (not my kind of mod, but seems to be plenty of anime fans out there :)).

@Axe99 is correct = @Vonboe has indeed started this work - it already has + 100,000 views and is worth a look;
