Hey guys,

i would like to make a few changes to the character hairstyles:
is it possible to give norse catholic rulers the hairstyles of norse pagan rulers, while danish/norwegian/swedish catholic rulers keep their "more civilized" hairstyles?
and if not, how can i make all the nordic rulers use the pagan norse style?

thanks in advance!

Totally possible, but not without creating a new portrait set.

1. Creating a new portrait set for Norse-derived cultures
See the section "What files do I need to edit to create a new portrait set?" in this post.

2. Making Norse non-pagan rulers to use Norse pagan hair style
This will depend on whether you have CPRplus installed. If you do, go to HIP (or CPRplus, if you have it installed stand-alone) folder, go to interface\portraits\portrait_norse.gfx and open the file with a text editor. Find all "portraitType" entries that end with "christian (there should be 6 of then, 3 male and 3 female). Drop all instances of "_christian" in entries that say hair (e.g. norse_male_hair_midage_christian).

I choose the second option because it was easier and it worked great, thank you very much!

i guess if i keep the modded portrait_norse.gfx file i can use it in future updates since there wont be much changes to norse portraits any time soon, right?

Oh, but those are two different steps, not options. The first one is what you need to do so that "danish/norwegian/swedish catholic rulers keep their 'more civilized' hairstyles". You basically need to make a new portrait set that only the Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish characters will use.

Correct! Though we may incorporate something from one or two of the portrait sets that will come with Holy Fury.

Ah I see, I just did what you told me in step two and all norse cultures now got the pagan hairstyle. since its pretty easy to change, I just use one file for early games and the other for later games, so i dont need to add a new portrait set.

so I have a related question: how is it possible to have christian norse rulers to use the pagan clothes, too? i tried the same procedure as in step 2, deleting all the "_christian" endings in the PortraitType sections. I even changed the western headgear lines, for example i changed "GFX_western_male_headgear_behind" to "GFX_norse_male_headgear_behind" but it doesnt seem to work.
