Greetings dearest Chirpies!

We've been hinting for some time that we're looking for ways to let a certain group of modders get earlier access to upcoming content. Why? To ensure that the most common mods are compatible with the game when we launch big updates.

The goal is to try this out with After Dark in the form of a closed beta starting ~1 week prior to release for a small amount of our core modders.

What will be expected from you.
  • You will sign an NDA with Paradox, as you're accessing non-released content.
  • You will not update your mod/asset prior to the public release of this new content. (This is to avoid early updates breaking mods/games)
  • Your most subscribed mod/asset will be updated within a day of releasing the new content.
Who can apply?
  • Modders with at least one workshop entry with 25,000+ subscribers
  • Asset creators with at least one workshop entry with 15,000+ subscribers
  • Users that have a really, really, good case and believe they can convince us they are too valuable to not invite (please no joke applications)
How does one apply?

Send an email to john.rickne@paradoxplaza.com containing...
  • Full name
  • Nickname (forum, steam, reddit, whatever)
  • Age
  • Most popular asset/mod + link
  • Reason why you should be picked as a beta
  • Confirm that you are able to print & scan a document (NDA) and may legally sign it
  • Confirm your availability between September 17-24
If you're not picked - don't worry! This is a test and we aim to expand the amount of betas in the future once we're sure this is the way to go.

Also, please note the following: being a beta tester does not mean you're at a privileged position in the community or entitled to a "heavier" opinion/voice. If one is found to abuse this position/trust it will lead to immediate exclusion from the program.

Dang I'd love to submit but i doubt I'd be able to commit to the time frame! But a lovely idea guys! Will it be possible to join betas in the future for future updates?

Darn. Weeded out. :) Great idea to do this CO/Paradox - I think this is going to pay off dividends in streamlining issues for users when new updates hit across the board. I hope people who sign up & are selected take it seriously and provide great feedback and testing!

Agree, I hope most mods will be compatible from day 1 or day 2.

Some mods will drop out as evolutionary process, people don't update them anymore.

But as we've sen the best mods with open source always have found a person to continue the mod and/or make new version/fork of it.

Like Traffic Manager + Improved AI - that's the hottest hot and future of traffic mods.

I totally misread the title of this, as an application to assist in making mods that Paradox was releasing in its beta state. Maybe something they cooked up in-house to make all of their assets.

A great idea. I have actually started a new city with no non-vanilla assets at all, as I expected a delay as the modders tried to catch up; I didn't want any odd black gaps you see.

If, TotalyMoo, you were to compile a little list of assets that have been worked on by folks that have had a beta copy... If you had the time to throw onto the internets such a list on the day the expansion is released. That would be cool, as we could all rush to Steam and get them.

P.S. Christmas is coming, and so I think you should hold a Christmas tree making competition for the modders this year.

1. I've been talking with a guy about doing both a list and some kind of video-thingo on this.

2. Actually a great idea.
