Announcement/Contest/Shameless Attempt at Self-Promotion:
The VIET thread has just reached 50 pages in about two months, which is twice as fast as PB (4 months) and sort-of-not-really almost as fast as CK2+ (1.5 months). Which obviously means VIET is better than either mods. Just kidding.
Seriously, though, because I'm in a lulzy mode, I've decided to hold a minor little competition of sorts. Simply,
whoever posts the 1000th post in the VIET thread (the number you see in the upper right hand corner of a post)
gets a little prize, nothing much - you can make your own character (or whatever sort of custom character - doesn't have to be you, can be characters from your favorite TV series or whatever (I sometimes sort of do that for easter eggs)) which I'll put as an easter egg ruler of any barony (castle, city, or temple) that is unoccupied in the 1066 start. i.e., you can choose the traits, dynasty name, etc. as if you were making your own character. The only restriction is that it has to make relative cultural sense (so no "Jarl Balgruuf Haroldson Dragonslayer, Wali of Cairo" or "Baroness Sakura Muromachi of Timbuktu", but "Mayor Cosimo Medici" of a city in southern France would be fine).
Why am I doing this? Is it because I'm generous? Is it because I'm insane? Is it because I'm just attempting a silly advertising campaign for VIET? Or is it because I'm attempting another move for the glorious
martial arts school of PB against the villainous schools of CK2+, Lux Invicta, and Prince and Thane that holy-crap-lord-preserves-us-modders-it-just-rose-from-the-dead-to-terrorize-us-into-submission (AGOT school doesn't count, they're in their own little world)? Who knows. But what I do know is that VIET is almost reaching it's 1000th post, and that I'm finding this entertaining.
While I was making a few modifications of my own I noticed that the trait files in both the core mod and the traits mod conflict and there are major differences between them. I don't know if that was intended or not. I also found a few other files that conflicted, but those were either identical to one another or set to override.
I also have a very odd bug that I haven't been able to identify the cause of. I can't use quicksave while playing as the leader of estonia at the 1066 start. I tried going around to a few other rulers and couldn't duplicate the bug anywhere else. To be honest, I'm not even 100% sure if it's related to this mod. This is the first mod that I've played with while also trying to play as a pagan ruler.
Btw, I was using only the vanilla mods. So VIET Core, Event for Immersion, Immersion, Defines, and Traits.
The traits file in Core and Traits shouldn't conflict, but indeed it appears I've forgotten to update the Core module to the trait changes that were supposed to happen in 1.1.0-1.1.4 for whatever reason. Thanks for the tip, I'll have that fixed in the next version.
As for not being able to use quicksave I really have no idea what that's not working. You might want to see if there's anything in the error log (Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader kings II/logs/error.log) right after you try clicking on quicksave (and don't reload into CKII or else it'll clear out the error log if there's anything), but judging from how you describe I doubt it will appear there. If it's just a one-time thing or doesn't appear to happen regularly it might be difficult for me to pinpoint a possible cause (if at all). Otherwise, does it affect your ability to save normally?
@cybrxkhan
Thank you for that earlier event list. I was able to work out why I couldn't get that Holy War CB.
On a related note, have you considered that instead of completely preventing Merchant Republics having the Holy War CB, have you instead considered just making it a very difficult? What I mean is that if the ruler was an extraordinary combination of traits which would make them want to Holy War. Like three or four traits are needed and none of the bad ones. A mix of both the Republic's desire for profits and a fervor for their religion.
In a few situations, Merchant Republics have engaged in Holy Wars.

I was thinking something like <zealous, ambitious, greedy and/or proud and/or brave> and no <content, craven, charitable, humble, slothful>
I originally tried the traits-based restrictions for the Republics when I was attempting my first round of Republic nerfing (or, well, I already had them to begin with from earlier pre-1.09 versions of VIET), but that didn't work out given how
eventually you'll get a number of Republics under a ruler/patricians who have the right traits and then it all goes downhill from there.
Another possibility would be to have seriously insane gold/prestige/piety and distance costs, but similarly to the above once a ruler meets those requirements it all goes downhill from there as they just snowball their way into world conquest.
The main issue is the Republic AI, which just seems to spam holy wars as a method of expansion in vanilla CKII. I'm not really sure how to go around that, to be honest.
At the least Republics can still join Crusades and all that for now, so to be honest I'm fine with that for now.
Hi,
when I try to load a savegame it keeps on crashing all the time saying that ck2.exe does not work - have Balance and this mod...anyone knowing what?
If jordarkelf's suggestion doesn't work, does the error log show anything? (located in Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings II/logs/error.log) It has to be from immediately after the crash (if you reoload it'll clear out the old error log, if there was anything in there)
