Third time's the charm: I've reuploaded the Middle East music pack again (click on the link to download, or go to the bottom of the first post). I've checked to make sure I could download the songs on another computer a couple of hours after I uploaded this one, so hopefully it'll work this time.

Given the number of great migrations in the 9th century, the pagan DLC might have something that could be used for this.

Indeed. They better add in a migration mechanic - this was one of the biggest reasons why I was hesitant as to whether they'd even bother with a Dark Ages DLC, but now that they've decided to try it, they really do have to get it down somehow. And we modders might have to deal with the migration mechanic anyways if there is one, given how I highly doubt the migration mechanics will be the most balanced or sensible of features, even after some patching. Hopefully it'd be moddable to a reasonable extent.

Hello again!

Is there a reference sheet of any sort for necessary requisites for CB's with VIET? I try to solve my questions on my own.

If not, is there any mechanics for Christian Holy War against Muslims overseas? I have a zealous, ambitious ruler yet lacks one.

Got a gameplay question. Usually I play one of the Germanic or Italian states but this time I decided to play up in Wales and really having a good time. I'm on my second ruler, the first having lived only 9 months. Shortly after this ruler came of age I entered a war to aid another of the Welsh rulers. After I raised my levies I was able to change the ruler from the inexperienced kid to my very experienced marshal. The time came for the 1st crusade. I raised the levies but this time I couldn't swap out my ruler for my new marshal (with a 21! martial) because the crown authority was to low. So, the question here is two fold. Why was I able to change it before and how to I raise the crown authority so I can change it again? I can't seem to find an option to change it in the law section or anywhere else. The ruler is a mere Count with one region to his name if that makes a difference.

Hello again!

Is there a reference sheet of any sort for necessary requisites for CB's with VIET? I try to solve my questions on my own.

If not, is there any mechanics for Christian Holy War against Muslims overseas? I have a zealous, ambitious ruler yet lacks one.

Most likely the target is too far away. If the target is too far away you'll have to have a certain amount of piety and be able to pay a certain amount of prestige before declaring holy war. Anyhow, here's the full list of changes to wars and all; I haven't been able to put this up on the first couple of posts like I used to because my feature list is way too long so it goes over the character limit:

War:
- Upon success in a Crusade, the new kingdom can granted to a brother, son, or relative of the most contributing lord (credits to Meneth for the code taken from PB)
- Holy wars only target counties and not duchies
- Orthodox Christians can only declare war on pagans
- Miaphysite Christians can no longer declare holy war
- Muslims can no longer declare holy war or county conquest on any branch of Eastern Christianity**
- Muslim invasions now only target duchies, and they cannot target East Africans**
- Non-Mongol Tengri Pagans cannot be the target of holy wars or crusades
- Holy wars on Baltic or Finnish pagans cannot be declared until 1145
- Holy wars can only be declared by rulers with the ambitious, zealous, brave, greedy, or lunatic traits, cannot be declared by rulers with the content, slothful, cynical, imbecile, or craven traits*
- Muslim invasions cannot be declared by rulers with the content, slothful, imbecile, or craven traits
- Coastal Republic CB can only be declared by rulers with the ambitious, greedy, brave, or envious traits and not by rulers with the content, slothful, craven, or imbecile traits
- County Invasion CB can only be declared by rulers with the ambitious, greedy, brave, wroth, envious, or cruel traits, and cannot be declared by rulers with the content, slothful, craven, or imbecile traits
- County Invasion CB can only be declared on pagans if the ruler using it is pagan themselves
- Overthrowing a ruler in a civil war will only reduce CA by one level instead of two
- Added Mandinka Horsemen and Sofa Warriors mercenary companies for West Africans
- Added Sudanese Band, Agaw Band, and Beja Band mercenary companies for East Africans
- Added Yotvingian Band and Samogitian Band mercenary companies for Baltic pagans
- Added Chud Band and Estonian Band mercenary companies for Finno-Ugric pagans
- Mamluks are no longer vassals of the Fatimids, and they cannot be vassalized
- Mamluks are now Sunni and not Shiite*
- Added a 5 year cooldown for holy war and coastal republic CBs*
- Non-Christian Republics cannot use the Coastal Republic CBs
- Coastal Republic CBs require at least 50 prestige for normal patricians, 200 prestige for duchy-level Republics and 600 for king or emperor-level Republics, and cost 25, 100 and 300 prestige respectively
- Merchant Republics cannot use the holy war CB
- Holy Wars can now be declared if you are cynical if you are also ambitions
- Holy Wars can only be declared against nearby provinces; otherwise, for provinces not nearby, you must have at least 50 piety and pay 50 prestige if you are a count; 100 piety and pay 100 prestige if you are a duke; 300 piety and pay 300 prestige if you are a king; and 1000 piety and pay 1000 prestige if you are an emperor
- Seljuks and their vassals (or their decadence successors) can use the Tribal Invasion CB on the Byzantine Empire before 1100
- Muslims can declare Jihad from 1147
- Muslims can use the county conquest CB on the Byzantine Empire IF they are ambitious or zealous
- Muslim Republics cannot use the Invasion CB and can only use County Conquest CB on Muslims
- Kings and Emperors can only declare holy war if they have medium CA unless if they are zealous AND either brave or ambitious
- Muslim county conquests cannot be declared on East Africans unless the ruler has 100 prestige if duke-level or below, 200 prestige if king-level, or 300 prestige if emperor-level (actually declaring war has no cost, however)
- Emperors pressing courtier’s claims for other realms will never have those realms become part of their de jure territory
- Christians cannot declare holy war on pagans if they have any pagan province in their realm (must convert it first)

Just nag Cybr to implement my "is war possible?" decision set. Lets you see all the fancy conditions for various CBs.

I should probably do that. Let's see when my laziness level reduces. :glare:

Got a gameplay question. Usually I play one of the Germanic or Italian states but this time I decided to play up in Wales and really having a good time. This appears to be a vanilla issue. Frankly I don't even know how exactly the game calculates what counts as CA for choosing military leaders in certain situations - I'm guessing it has to do with the CA of the (currently inexistent?) Kingdom of Wales in your case, but again I'm not sure. Myself, I'm a bit baffled at times as sometimes the game will allow me to do it and not at other times - so in other words I haven't changed anything concerning choosing of generals, so it's probably something to do with vanilla.

Eh, I have an easier solution in mind - put up the detailed list of features in a google doc, freeing up a bunch of space for everything else. Now when I get to that google doc is another matter my laziness has to deal with.

Presumably you don't know what it feels like to have your f###ing heart ripped out by a close friend, a padre, a hombre, a comrade? I do, because that's what this represents; that our dark-skinned friends and cousins in deepest, darkest Berberland would speak with one voice -- one color! And yet you... well, there aren't words for what you've done.

Oh fine, you. In honor of our sacred alliance made under the peach cherry blossoms in that spring centuries ago, where we vowed eternal brotherhood in the hostile and unforgiving world of martial arts wuxia CKII modding, I shall return the Berbers to their original darkness (?).

But the customization options remain. Because customization is god.

But on a serious note this does remind me of something I've been debating - whether to split the Berbers into two, with the northern ones more closely associated with the Mediterranean, vs. the southern ones (i.e. Tuareg) more closely associated with West Africa (similar to SWMH's current set-up); and, if I do end up doing this, how exactly to do it (as in, for instance, how to name them? SWMH for instance currently as the northern Berbers as "Berber" and the southern ones as "Tuareg", and while I'm okay with such naming, it's not the best solution).

Nah, I honestly don't mind them having the Arab skin set -- there is, as you say, a solid argument for either brown or black, I just prefer black for a little more variety.

As for the Berber culture itself, I don't recommend splitting it. The color's totally up to you, though. :)

SWMH confines the Tuareg to the oases, and one province near Mali, there aren't and shouldn't be any playable Tuareg rulers at game start. In my opinion, Berbers should be lighter than Maghreb Arabs, definitely not black.

Tuareg certainly doesn't warrant inclusion as its own culture. Keep them as Berbers (which they were/are) and give Berber culture the Andalusian/Arab portrait set. I'm happy to fall on my sword on this one. ;)

Ok, no Tuaregs then. I probably should do a Berber-focused update sometime in the far future, though, just because Berbers are cool.

Nah, I honestly don't mind them having the Arab skin set -- there is, as you say, a solid argument for either brown or black, I just prefer black for a little more variety.

As for the Berber culture itself, I don't recommend splitting it. The color's totally up to you, though. :)

Fine, I take back what I said about changing them back to black. They will keep the current generic Muslim look, given that I've changed almost all the Muslims to the new Persian or Turkish portrait sets (which, and dare I say with much arrogance and self-confidence, look much more proper for the Muslims than the default Muslim look which is a tad too dark and hairy).

Oh, I know what you're doing, you're purposely trying to raise the post count in the VIET thread. Very clever, very cunning.

Any idea what this might mean? I'm using SWMH + PB + VIET Core, Defines, and Events, as well as a personal mod that adds in a republic of Dublin and a few characters for it.

Hmm. The republic sound thingy I'm not exactly sure what it is - I've seen it a few times myself randomly but it doesn't seem to be causing any serious issues.

As for the holy war thingy, did you apply the steps for VIET Core here? If no then you might want to try that. If yes then when I get home I'll check the lines mentioned specifically in the error log to see if anything's up, though my best suggestion right now is not to play with VIET Core if it's causing serious issues.
