Byzantine stuff. Let me help! I love the ERE, even if I lack the knowledge...
Quickly googled "Eparch" and was led to Wikipedia. Apparently Eparchs were provincial governors, or the like, not rulers of a city. Apparently they were also a rank in the Greek Orthodox church.
Though there was an "Eparch of Constantinople" apparently. So perhaps that is where the term was derived. And there were probably "Eparchs" who like the one in Constantinople ruled over a city-province or something.
Best, I can tell, Ordep, it would seem to me that "Eparch" is probably a "best-fit" title, over-generalizing one particular use pf a title. I don't know about a Greek title for Mayor, but apparently the Romanoi used "Praetor" (or rather the Hellenized version of that word) for Mayor.
So if I'm reading this right, eparch is kinda sorta right? Unless people are really into it, I'd be wary of using praetor since that title is so commonly associated with the roman era, but hey, I'll hear more opinions on this.
A few days ago, once AGAIN I saw Venice annexed by Byzantium which brought me to thinking... could grand cities like Venice, Genoa, Pisa, etc. get something like Revolt events which would increase their chances to reform in case their new Overlord gets weakened? Historically, holding these cities was no simple thing.
Porbably something for when cybr comes back, I'm wary of touching the balance given how hard he worked on it.
In previous versions of VIET I've found that if I was of Altaic culture (but not Tengri) I would still get Tengri shamans spawning all the time too. Perhaps the decision is bugged? I would have shamans spawn on their own all the time as a Jewish Khazar in France.
I'll take a look at the decision and see what's going on.
Been away for a few days or I might have commented sooner... (can we all be late?) the only change I had to make to play with the Factions beta version in December was to modify the VIET "on_actions" file to include "meneth.211 Factions" in the Yearly pulse. Been playing with the full up PB3.4 today with the same modification and it fired the Faction meeting just fine. It appears to be stuck on my old saves - but works for new games. So hopefully that makes it an easy fix for you in the compatibility file.
Yeah, it's not that monstrous an update as I initially assumed when I wrote that, I just haven't had any time to work on it.
I've tested the Socotra thing in-game and it does not convert over the CK2 Socotra province's older to EU4. At least not with the version of the converter I have (1.1.2). I've changed the entry in the province table in my version (it originally had c_busaso listed) and it works now, so it's an easy fix.
That's... bizzare. I even remember posting screenshots of socotra properly converted in the preview. Something awfully wrong happened there for sure, I wonder if for whatever reason the PB+VIET files somehow made its way to the VIET version  Anyway, I'll take a look at it whenever I go back to the converter.
Gotta say I'm a little jealous you know how the province table works. I can't wrap my head all around it
Speaking of which, OrdepNM have you had any time to look at my CK2 save I sent you just now? It's alright if you haven't; I'm working on my game still and will see if continuing through the years of a CK2 game changes anything. However I am curious to why some events aren't firing and why the Ottomans come out of nowhere.
Believe me I want to, since the converter is my baby and it frurstates me more than anyone if things aren't working properly, but right now I have my hands full with VIET and besides modding my schedule has been awfully busy. This past few days my wife had health complications related to her pregnancy and taking care of her has been a second job so modding simply had to take a backseat. Anyway, I haven't forgot about it, I've just been way too busy to deal with it.
