TO PB USERS:
The newest version of PB should work with the current version of PB+VIET. Although a few of the changes from the latest version of PB will be missing, it should otherwise work fine - I've run a couple of games and it seems to be stable, and since the differences to merge are pretty minimal I figured a hotupdate was unnecessary.
I have had this problem as well. I had my Fylkja of Norway trying to seduce her Jarl of East Anglia for ages, with plot power in the 500% range, and the event did not fire at all. In fact, because several courtiers had blabbed about the plot, the Jarl ended up with a -200 opinion malus, causing him to constantly be in the independence faction. Maybe the seduction plot should have a different event for that, btw, like giving the malus to the subject's spouse, and then giving a positive or negative modifier to the target based on how many "attraction to" modifiers they have. So they might be flattered if an attractive, gregarious person is plotting to get in their pants, but horrified if the maimed inbred takes a shot. Maybe also take into account the chaste vs. lustful trait in this equation?
That's obviously too complex for that event, but really, the seduction plot really isn't working in my game. I haven't seen it succeed once, and I've tried it about four or five times. Any suggestions as to what file might be missing/corrupted/conflicting? I am running 2.0.1, with all the VIET modules. The only other mod is a simple one that changes the map font, and doesn't even touch any of the event files.
To be honest I'm not sure why the seduce plot would not fire properly - the code looks fine to me, and its MTTH is even shorter than that of other plots such as the assassinate plots. Granted, I took it from Additional Objectives 2.0, so I'm not intimately familiar with it. Unfortunately since AO 2.0 isn't really my work and it's a rather sizeable amount of material, trying to tweak it isn't a priority for me (there have been some other concerns about it), but I could take a temporary measure of reducing the amount of people who attempt it.
I might suggest looking again. Do you notice the part where it says "Realms job_spiritual_west_african_pagans" just above the names of the priest in control of the Holy Sites?
Ohh... I didn't see that. Hmm... not sure what's going on but I'll look into it.
You might be right in that it's luck. My friends tell me that the Umayyads usually blob them (and instead the Umayyads formed Spain, or Al-Andalus as I can rename it

) so I guess I'll roll with it and see what happens in the future.
Really? That's... odd. Ah well, I'll try and see what I can do. The Idrisids currently have a Content ruler so he doesn't feel like going to war with me. Gives me more time to prepare. Really am liking all the new features present in VIET though!
In my test games the West Africans usually stay to their own corner, bothered by no one, and evnetually form one kingdom by around 1200-1300. There was one exception when the Almoravids or their decadence successors conquered half of West Africa, but stuff like that's pretty rare.
Just have to say I like the new format of PB+VIET makes having many mods great. Still haven't really been able to play though lol.
Thanks! Enjoy your game when you do get ot play it.
For how long are the West African Pagans supposed to last? Historically, the Islam eventually dominated the region, right? Wouldn't buffing the pagans tip the balance too much and prevent the Muslin to thrive there?
The West Africans still kept a lot of their pagan traditions well into the 19th century, when a number of hardline Muslim states arose in the region; until then, there was a highly syncretic situation in West Africa in places where Islam had made inroads - nobles and rulers were happily willing to continue pagan rituals and traditions alongside Muslim ones, if they converted at all. Even nowadays, a large number of these pagan traditions and beliefs remain, blended together with Islam. Currently I'm pretty happy with the situation in West Africa; actually it's probably the only place whose balance I'm almost 100% satisfied with, as the results always mirror history pretty closely - by the end date I see West Africa mostly under the rule of one large kingdom/empire (formed around 1200-1300) dominated by a Muslim nobility while the majority of the provinces are still pagan.
How do I make a friend or get a rival?
I wonder this too.
would love if you could choose who you want to be friend with.
I do plan to add in a few more friend and rival events eventually.
Edit1 (to avoid double posting): how does that "uncover plot" ambition work?
Once you start the ambition, there is a chance that you will discover a plot in your court (via special events) - once that happens, you gain a special trait, informant, that gives you a small boost to intrigue.
