Disabled the music, I didn't see anything wrong with it, not info texts mixed in. Even with it disabled it will crash on character screen or 2-3 months ingame time.

Strange. It doesn't seem like anyone else is experiencing constant CTDs like you do, and I was able to play a non-test, normal game last night fine... Hmm. Are you running any other mods? That's the only other thing I can think of for now. If you're not running any other mods and/or none of them are causing issues (either by themselves or due to incompatibilities), as a last resort, you can send me a zip of your entire mod folder - exactly as it is while the CTDs happen - and I'll see whether I can diagnose the problem using essentially your local copy.

Okay! So I'm not all too far into my CK2 game, but I do have something I want to share

My kingdom is all up and in place. I did notice however a small error on the Religion page for West African Pagans. Otherwise, things have been great so far.

I don't see anything wrong on the religion page...?

On another note however, I have noticed two things while playing with the 2.0 patch. Have AI Muslims learned how to control decadence? The Idrisid ruler above me never goes above 30%, even after changing rulers. It's kinda scary now as they outright border me and have over 10,000 troops now.

Might just be good luck for the AI on their part, though to be honest I haven't really observed how well the AI handles decadence per se. Maybe the decadence gain is just slower or something, I really dunno, as I haven't seriously touched the decadence system yet (the most relevant thing I've done is add in a few flavor events, but thoes are just rare and generic flavor events that wouldn't be happening often anyways).

Also, don't West African Pagans get Defensive Bonuses/Attrition by being a pagan? I've had the Idrisids come down to me once or twice and I've never seen any sort of defensive bonus come into play for me.

According to the devs in vanilla CKII West African Pagans not getting defensive attrition is WAD (for some reason...) though in my test games the West African pagans tend to hold out reasonably enough. I'll probably just give them the defensive attrition anyways, I don't undrestand why the devs won't give them it in vanilla CKII.

hi im getting crashes with ck2+ and viet now after passing the year 900 or so

Does the error log say anything?

Is this updated yet?

Yes, it's updated to vanilla patch 2.0.1. The PB version is slightly out of date since a new version of PB was released earlier today, but I'll be uploading an update (hotupdate?) tonight.

Thanks for your quick response cybrxkhan. I did switch to Tanisty and I don't imagine I'll run into too many problems as long as my kingdom is fairly small!

No problem, hope things goes smoothly. If you still don't like it that way I can show you where in the code you can change it so the Irish have access to all succession laws again, the changes shouldn't be too hard.

This last one may be nothing, but one of my subjects has been plotting to seduce me for years. He has over 100% plot power, but it never, ever hits. I've seen similar things happen in other playthroughts. I don't know if it's bugged or if it's just bad luck.

I have had this problem as well. I had my Fylkja of Norway trying to seduce her Jarl of East Anglia for ages, with plot power in the 500% range, and the event did not fire at all. In fact, because several courtiers had blabbed about the plot, the Jarl ended up with a -200 opinion malus, causing him to constantly be in the independence faction. Maybe the seduction plot should have a different event for that, btw, like giving the malus to the subject's spouse, and then giving a positive or negative modifier to the target based on how many "attraction to" modifiers they have. So they might be flattered if an attractive, gregarious person is plotting to get in their pants, but horrified if the maimed inbred takes a shot. Maybe also take into account the chaste vs. lustful trait in this equation?

That's obviously too complex for that event, but really, the seduction plot really isn't working in my game. I haven't seen it succeed once, and I've tried it about four or five times. Any suggestions as to what file might be missing/corrupted/conflicting? I am running 2.0.1, with all the VIET modules. The only other mod is a simple one that changes the map font, and doesn't even touch any of the event files.

I might suggest looking again. Do you notice the part where it says "Realms job_spiritual_west_african_pagans" just above the names of the priest in control of the Holy Sites?

Might just be good luck for the AI on their part, though to be honest I haven't really observed how well the AI handles decadence per se. You might be right in that it's luck. My friends tell me that the Umayyads usually blob them (and instead the Umayyads formed Spain, or Al-Andalus as I can rename it :D) so I guess I'll roll with it and see what happens in the future.

Really? That's... odd. Ah well, I'll try and see what I can do. The Idrisids currently have a Content ruler so he doesn't feel like going to war with me. Gives me more time to prepare. Really am liking all the new features present in VIET though! :D

For how long are the West African Pagans supposed to last? Historically, the Islam eventually dominated the region, right? Wouldn't buffing the pagans tip the balance too much and prevent the Muslin to thrive there?

TO PB USERS:

The newest version of PB should work with the current version of PB+VIET. Although a few of the changes from the latest version of PB will be missing, it should otherwise work fine - I've run a couple of games and it seems to be stable, and since the differences to merge are pretty minimal I figured a hotupdate was unnecessary.

The only other mod is a simple one that changes the map font, and doesn't even touch any of the event files.

To be honest I'm not sure why the seduce plot would not fire properly - the code looks fine to me, and its MTTH is even shorter than that of other plots such as the assassinate plots. Granted, I took it from Additional Objectives 2.0, so I'm not intimately familiar with it. Unfortunately since AO 2.0 isn't really my work and it's a rather sizeable amount of material, trying to tweak it isn't a priority for me (there have been some other concerns about it), but I could take a temporary measure of reducing the amount of people who attempt it.

I might suggest looking again. Do you notice the part where it says "Realms job_spiritual_west_african_pagans" just above the names of the priest in control of the Holy Sites?

Ohh... I didn't see that. Hmm... not sure what's going on but I'll look into it.

You might be right in that it's luck. My friends tell me that the Umayyads usually blob them (and instead the Umayyads formed Spain, or Al-Andalus as I can rename it :D) so I guess I'll roll with it and see what happens in the future.

In my test games the West Africans usually stay to their own corner, bothered by no one, and evnetually form one kingdom by around 1200-1300. There was one exception when the Almoravids or their decadence successors conquered half of West Africa, but stuff like that's pretty rare.

Just have to say I like the new format of PB+VIET makes having many mods great. Still haven't really been able to play though lol.

Thanks! Enjoy your game when you do get ot play it.

For how long are the West African Pagans supposed to last? Historically, the Islam eventually dominated the region, right? Wouldn't buffing the pagans tip the balance too much and prevent the Muslin to thrive there?

The West Africans still kept a lot of their pagan traditions well into the 19th century, when a number of hardline Muslim states arose in the region; until then, there was a highly syncretic situation in West Africa in places where Islam had made inroads - nobles and rulers were happily willing to continue pagan rituals and traditions alongside Muslim ones, if they converted at all. Even nowadays, a large number of these pagan traditions and beliefs remain, blended together with Islam. Currently I'm pretty happy with the situation in West Africa; actually it's probably the only place whose balance I'm almost 100% satisfied with, as the results always mirror history pretty closely - by the end date I see West Africa mostly under the rule of one large kingdom/empire (formed around 1200-1300) dominated by a Muslim nobility while the majority of the provinces are still pagan.

How do I make a friend or get a rival?

I wonder this too.

would love if you could choose who you want to be friend with.

I do plan to add in a few more friend and rival events eventually.

Edit1 (to avoid double posting): how does that "uncover plot" ambition work?

Once you start the ambition, there is a chance that you will discover a plot in your court (via special events) - once that happens, you gain a special trait, informant, that gives you a small boost to intrigue.

Well, in that case why are you risking that by giving the pagans the defensive bonus? If the balance is actually working, wouldn't it be better to leave as it is?

Little preview of some of the natural disaster events I'm throwing into the next version, because I'm sadistic.

The one below is meant to be the worst and rarest one (although it's probably much more forgiving than if it did happen in real life due to engine limitations). That comet seemed to be quite an ill omen for the poor Fatimids, no?

tLzSrnG.jpg

Do note that the actual modifier that Cairo will get is much nastier, I messed up the code slightly so it's currently getting modifiers meant for surrounding provinces. Although this event doesn't explain it well (yet), these natural disaster events will result in a lot of dead/maimed/wounded people (to my sadistic pleasure - when I tested this event on the Doukas-controlled ERE it resulted in almost the entire royal family getting wiped out), so it will really screw things up if you're really unlucky (or screw over your enemies if you're really lucky). (also before anyone asks yes there will be customization options to turn these off if you don't want. I think these events are going to be awesome though - meteors, earthquakes, volcanoes, huge floods and blizzards... should keep you on your toes, even though they're rare)

Great! I see a bright future for the VIET mod. The game gonna be deeper than a pornstar.

So that this discussion remains remotely relevant to the thread topic and PG-13 rated, I will say I also intend to make the find a lover stuff deeper too.

Ah, wait, that was also an innuendo, wasn't it?

Well, in that case why are you risking that by giving the pagans the defensive bonus? If the balance is actually working, wouldn't it be better to leave as it is?

Because West Africans are cool Actually... that's a pretty good point.

Hey cybr, how about some flavor event chains revolving around supposedly finding a legendary or mythological weapon - Gáe Bulg, Gungnir, Excalibur, the Spear of Destiny, Gram, Durandal, etc. Obviously should be extraordinarily rare, and left ambiguous if the weapon in question is, well...the weapon in question.

I've actually been considering writing some of these up on my own, but I don't think it'd be significant enough to merit its own mod -- I do think it'd work well with VIET, though.

Ooh meteors! I hated them in EUIV because of the stability drops and I am sure I am going to be tearing my hair out when it hits to my imbecile inbred toddler with an ambitious regent :p

I only hope you balance all the bad stuff with a few good random events.

Also one of the things I have noticed is that when I re-established the Zoroastrian Priesthood, the holy order immortals are formed, BUT I am not their liege. Furthur more I am not even their de-jure liege so they refuse vassalisation.
Now of the requirement of becoming the Saoshyant is having complete control of dejure empire of Persia which is IMPOSSIBLE because the immortals just won't accept me as their liege.

So now I am thinking of editing whichever file contains their data so that at least the Emperor of Persia becomes their de-jure liege and lets me become the Saosoyant

Armageddon the horrible disasters bandwagon! Woohooo for random explosions!:D

Very good suggestion, actually... Family members could inherit them like relics. Anyhow these probably would be good flavor for some of the themed updates I'm planning in the future.

I only hope you balance all the bad stuff with a few good random events.

I do intend to have both rare events with extreme good effects and those with extremely bad effects (and ones with ambiguous effects) - SoA, for all its issues, was really awesome with some of its event chains like the Joan of arc one or the demon spawn one, and i hope to throw in some VIET-style ones into the mix. Though I'm starting with these extremely sadistic natural disaster ones for now, just because VIET currently has way too many fluffy or nice generic mundane flavor events.

Also one of the things I have noticed is that when I re-established the Zoroastrian Priesthood, the holy order immortals are formed, BUT I am not their liege. Furthur more I am not even their de-jure liege so they refuse vassalisation.

If I'm correct in vanilla the immortals should become the vassals of Persia, then? Hmm. Not sure why that's happening, but I'll look into it. I dunno how you can hotfix that right now, though maybe console command giving the immortals to yourself or one of your vassals might work as a temporary measure.

No problem, hope things goes smoothly. If you still don't like it that way I can show you where in the code you can change it so the Irish have access to all succession laws again, the changes shouldn't be too hard.

I would appreciate that. I formed England and found that ensuring that the same person inherited all three kingdoms was a nightmare. I went full tyrant since I had a boatload of piety and imprisoned, revoked, and banished every single title holder down to single holdings (about 100 people!). I used all of their stolen income to function with a huge demesne penalty until I replaced everyone. Now things are working out and it was great fun but I really would like to be capable of designating a single successor. Thanks a lot!
