"2) can be implemented in a way that doesn’t upset balance and vanilla gameplay too much; 3) is historically plausible/believable. As a general rule of thumb, I try to add nothing more substantial than Legacy of Rome." Says mod doesn't upset balance, mod gives Seljuks 150,000 troops in 1066, totally wtfy claims to kingdoms everywhere. Off map bonuses for units. This mod is a fraud and needs to be updated to warn off people from this troll mod.
Firstly, I would like to humbly request that you not make such rude and unnecessary remarks. As most of the VIET veterans and players here can assure you, I am always more than wiling to take criticism and suggestions for my mod, and am more than happy to try to help make your playing experience better. I have no problem with people disagreeing with my mod's features, tweaks, or general philosophy of handling things - it's why we have different overhauls catering to different audiences, after all. However, calling my mod a fraud and troll is no way to garner a productive discussion on any potential issues nor help make your case any stronger.
Secondly, concerning the Seljuks proper, that measure was a necessary step to ensure that the Turks actually had a chance of winning against the ERE. In th earliest incarnations of VIET, the ERE would roflstomp the Turks, and as such I had no choice but to give the Seljuks Mongol-seque doomstacks to even out the odds in their favor. If anything, this is more of a limitation with the game engine, which - regardless of whether you're using vanilla, or any mod - reduces military conflict to numbers. Additionally, while the situation may not be historically plausible in details per se, it leads to more historically accurate outcomes
in the long run. In VIET, you will see the Seljuks possibly control much of the near east and Anatolia and become the regional power they were historically, presenting a grave threat to the Fatimids and ERE - compare this to vanilla, where they are pushovers at worse and a mere annoyance to the Fatimids and ERE at best, unable to satisfactorily push into even Armenia. It is, essentially, a minor sacrifice of historical accuracy concerning historical detail for a much, much greater gain of historical plausibility concerning the politics of the Middle East during this time - the Turkish incursions into Anatolia, after all, were what brought about a chain of events leading to the weakening of the ERE and the crusades, important trends during most of CKII's time periods that aren't really as reflected in vanilla when you have the ERE always a powerful blob.
Now, I admit that perhaps the troop numbers for the Seljuks may be rather high now and even unnecessary in light of vanilla's new tweaks to the way wars and levies are handled, but please do note that I have only recently updated to the latest patch, so some elements of the mod may be still be unbalanced since major DLCs and patches always tend to upset the balance of things anyways. When I finish getting everything up to date with SoA, so to speak, I will look to rebalancing things again, including the initial ERE and Seljuk setup - I may reduce the Seljuks doomstacks slightly if the results seem acceptable to me in my test games.
Lastly, if you really want to change the amount of troops the Seljuks start with initially yourself, I am more than happy to point out the part so f the code you'll have to change or remove.
I don't know if there are any plans for Norse changes in VIET, but if you plan on adding anything to them in the future, please add an event to forge a Ulfberht. I saw this video recently
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXbLyVpWsVM and first thought was how awesome it would be to have that in CK2, an event like the one for West Africans. Anyway thanks for the awesome mod, can't play CK2 without VIET anymore.
Probably won't get to then Norse pagans for a loooong time, but that's a pretty cool idea, so I'll keep ar record of that.
So unfortunately, champion and veteran are both lost during save/load, making uploading a save impossible. It is worth noting, however, that I am playing with PB+VIET; it could be that this is easily reproduceable under that build? Sorry that I couldn't be of more help stomping this bug out. : \
Hmm. Yeah, this is a pretty mysterious thing... Thanks for trying, though. :\
I don't think it makes took a difference whether you're using the PB compatible version of VIET or not as both versions should have the traits, and I'd imagine its possible the bug affects both versions equally.
