Wasn't that area already the Norman March, AFAIK?

...hmm. That is true. I guess it could just be left as is, then? Sadly CK2 doesn't really do margraves and marches.

two other ideas I thought of:

1. Some asked for a Jewish Empire. My suggestion is to add an option to the Arabian Empire to automatically change its name to Israelite empire when a Jew controls it. Can it have a separate COA for Jews as well or is that not possible?

2. Is it possible to make the legality tech grant an extra duchy?

The Jews having to control Arabia in order to form their Empire seems a bit crappy, don't you think?
It is possible, by the way, to give separate flags for different religions. It's most noticeable in the flags of the Norse controlled titles in 867, such as Sjælland, Jylland, Sviþjod, Jorvik, Holmgarðr, Könugarðr, Ostlandet, Suðreyjar, etc.

I'm thinking it may be interesting for the Messianic heresy to operate a little like the Shia did in the Old Gods, with a [False] Messiah with super-stats (but probably not a child like in the Shia events) emerging to lead a rebellion at some point.

I think that's hardcoded to the pagan faiths, though.

It is possible but in a very proxy kind of way; you need first to have the religious group (or the religion) in question to have the "has_coa_on_barony_only = yes" line. Then you go to landed titles, search for the title in question and add this:
Code:
			coat_of_arms = {
				template = x
				layer = {
					texture = x
					texture_internal = x
					emblem = x
					color = x
					color = x
					color = x
				}
				religion = "whatever"
			}

For the template (the frame of the COA), check the coat_of_arms.txt file in the interface folder. For example, for the pagan religions, template = 1 is the entry "coa_plain_pagan", since it's the only one they have. Texture can be found in the same file inside the "textures" tag, so for example, let's say we use texture = 0 which would be "pattern_norse.tga". Texture_internal is the frame inside that tga we want to use, emblem is irrelevant here since the pagan coas don't have emblems. Colours are under the color tag in coat_of_arms.txt, and are in order, so for example:
Code:
	color = {
		{ 255 231 93 }		# 0		Gold
        .....
       }

Would be "color = 0"

Keep in mind this will only work while the title in question is held by a ruler of that religion.

Not really, the Israelite kingdom replaces the kingdom of Jerusalem as a de jure territory of the Arabian empire. I would also imagine that jewish ruler would have a big chunk of territory AND the current version of Viet cuts the Arabian de jure territory in half.

So I wasn't able to release VIET 1.5.1 since my RL stuff took a bit longer than I expected. Hopefully I'll be able to chuck it out tonight, but we'll see.

Now, for answer spam:

Re: the Magyars. While some mobility wouldn't hurt, historically they settled down in Pannonia to no small extent because it was the westernmost extension of the Eurasian steppe. It made sense for a nomadic, herding lifestyle. Conquering further into Germany and Poland may have been counterintuitive while they had that. Historically their forays further west were often more or less unopposed until the late 10th century, but amounted to raids and intimidating their neighbours to shake them down for tribute.

I do think it would be nice to somehow have events/decisions/what have you to represent the nomadic/semi-nomadic lifestyle - i.e. transhumance and the general advantage of sticking to wide open grasslands/disadvantage of trying to conquer and directly control territories with difficult terrain. But that might be a bit too complicated, even though historically it was a major factor in limiting nomadic expansion. Maybe being nomads should confer certain advantages and disadvantages that disappear if you follow an event chain in which you settle down? Though the latter would cause temporary resentment among nomad traditionalists (possible trait?).

One idea I've considered for the steppe nomads - since the beginning of VIET, actually - was to have some sort of "laws" for the steppe nomads where on one end you have a more pro-nomadic stance and on another end you have a more pro-sedentary stance (the former gives you more troops but less tax, the latter the opposite, for instance). Unfortunately it's an idea that I am only considering, I am not sure whether I can code it satisfcatorily yet - the reason being it sounds simple, but in reality the execution might actually not be as simple, so we'll see.

Something I've always wondered is why Hungary is preset to be Hungary even before the Hungarians arrive. Would it not be better for the kingdom to be Pannonia before they arrive, and when they arrive, they get events when they completely_control a duchy to integrate it into Hungary.

That's not a bad idea, I can throw that in.

Been playing for a bit and I love how it's all turned out; however, when you appoint a new high priest, it says there are no kohanim/priests. That has never been true, thankfully. So perhaps a change of wording?

Actually the text says "There has not been a Kohen Gadol – a High Priest of Judaism – since the Romans destroyed the Second Temple roughly a thousand years ago" which is largely accurate.

two other ideas I thought of:

1. I think I'll just add in something to change its name rather than the title.
2. Not sure how to do that.

I'm thinking it may be interesting for the Messianic heresy to operate a little like the Shia did in the Old Gods, with a [False] Messiah with super-stats (but probably not a child like in the Shia events) emerging to lead a rebellion at some point.

Actually that's a pretty hilarious idea, I'll make note of that.

Hmm. Well, perhaps one thing you can try is to copy some of CPR's files onto your local version of VIET and see if that works - so copy everything in CPR over except the cultures file, and see if that works.

Hi,

Just starting playing VIET, it's pretty fucking sweet. However, one little gripe i've had is, playing as a Jewish king of Ireland, reforming the faith is going to be quite the land grab mission. Is/could there be a few extra religious events such as a "Jewish Crusade" to reclaim the holy land?

Currently vanilla CKII already has Jewish great holy wars - they are activated once the Temple is restored.

What is CPR :huh:.

As GothicEmperor said it's my portrait mod basically, and it's been more or less entirely integrated into VIET, so the files should in theory be more or less the same. My logic is that perhaps for whatever reason VIET's files on your end are corrupted (which makes me realize, maybe you should try redownloading VIET too just in case) so perhaps CPR's files would work.

Yeah, just to answer some common points; VIET is my main mod (if you're reading this, you have of course already displayed an interest in it) and CPR is my portraits mod. I am responsible for 100% of content for both but prefer to remain in the background, reaping the rewards of critical and artistic acclaim whilst drinking bourbon and watching reruns of Seinfeld.

A guy named syb3rh4nds (?) looks after both mods -- poorly.

Regards,

SoH

Yeah, just to answer some common points; VIET is my main mod (if you're reading this, you have of course already displayed an interest in it) and CPR is my portraits mod. I am responsible for 100% of content for both but prefer to remain in the background, reaping the rewards of critical and artistic acclaim whilst drinking bourbon and watching reruns of Seinfeld.

A guy named syb3rh4nds (?) looks after both mods -- poorly.

Regards,

SoH

Who are you?

That did the trick thanks alot cybrx :).

Glad that's fixed!

Hi, started to have a problem last night (OK, early this morning) am playing from the 867 date as a Duke in Scotland using both the Viet 1.50 and the newest CK2+.... the problem...oops 1 of the the 2 problems is I get notified that the Aztecs have appeared about every other month in the game.....no feathers to be seen as of yet.... the 2nd problem and I didn't get screen shots of this are a notification that farmers have used poor seeds (? might have that worded wrong) and I now have a crop problem... which is ok to certain extent...the bad part is it says I now have the bad agriculture until the year 10000 AD.... soooo, kind of think that may be a bug .... possibly, almost, kinda...:eek: Haven't run anything with just the Viet or just the + so far, so not sure which they are coming from, but did want to let you know about it....
cheers.
