Am I the only one who gets random CTD with VIET? I am afraid to use Project Balance as it may add more. With Big Font Mod CK2 looks as good as ever and I'd liked to play it with VIET but it seems vanilla way is more stable one.

Am I the only one who gets random CTD with VIET? I am afraid to use Project Balance as it may add more. With Big Font Mod CK2 looks as good as ever and I'd liked to play it with VIET but it seems vanilla way is more stable one.

I've been using VIET fine for a long while and CTDs aren't an issue, and I believe VIET's been stable for most people as well. Project Balance is also stabler than VIET (though VIET is pretty stable, anyways, in my opinion) so you don't have to worry about PB being buggy (it's probably the least buggiest major mod out there, to be honest).

Anyhow, if you're getting random CTDs, one possible cause are the music modules - are you using them? And if so, did you by accident put in the readme, or the info file, etc., in "mod/VIET music/music", or wherever you keep the actual music files? That would cause CTDs as the game engine will try to read the readme or the info file as code, but since these aren't written as code the game doesn't understand and CTDs. This may happen sometimes as the unzipping programs can 'install' files in a weird way. If that's the issue the obvious solution to do would be to remove the offending files (of course, don't confuse the files with the code with the ones that aren't - just open them up to check which one has code and which one doesn't, if you want to make sure).

Additionally, are you using any other mods? Some mods may not be compatible with VIET and/or may present their own problems. This includes any other small mods. Also, make sure you're running VIET Assets.

If that's not the issue, or the CTDs are still happening, see if there's anything in the error log, and post it here. The error log is located in "My Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings II/logs", I believe. Note that using other mods may put the error log in another place. Make sure you get the error log right after the CTD - if you start the game up before retriving the error log then it will be wiped clean. If there's anything in it I may be able to diagnose a possible problem.

Lastly, though you've said the CTDs are random, if any of them do end up being reproduceable (i.e. they'll happen again and again in the same circumstances - for instance they happen within a few weeks after August 11, 1088; or they happen right after the Seljuks defeat the ERE; etc.), then you can also give me a savegame.

Good suggestions. Not sure if I've used Music mods when it happened (I definetely hasn't downloaded any additional music), but the only other mod I've used was Arco Coat of Arms mod. The most enraging CTD happened when my republic inherited some duchy, so I assumed it was cause of some underdeveloped mechanic - I can't be sure it was this specific moment of course. I'll try to test it to find out if this is my personal problem or some specific circumstances.

Sounds good. If the error log sounds anything feel free to show it to me.

Having a CTD (totally reproducable) while playing Zoroastrian Karen. CTD occurs when i point cursor over "Ransom all prisoners" condition.

I playing with vanilla VIET(except music module)+ARKO+Syren's nicknames.

Link to the savegame: http://artizans.ru/zoroastrian.rar

Thank you in advance.

The issue was reported a while back and I have since then added the fix for version 1.4.1. Basically the decision is bugged right now in the vanilla version since I didn't copy everything over from PB properly.

VIET Immersion and Core are currently not compatible with PB+SWMH/SWMH. Immersion in particular - it is almost certianly causing your issues. Disabling these modules, particularly Immersion, should fix your issue.

In the 867 start, there are a few Tajik characters. I'm sure you can see the problem here.

It's WAD, actually. While in theory these characters could be Bactrian, historically Bactrian was "almost finished" evolving/assimilating into Tajik/Pashtun/whatever around this time. The Tajik characters that are around, particularly the Samanids, are considered 'founding fathers' of sorts for the Tajik people, so I thought it was appropriate. Perhaps a somewhat analogous situation would be having the king of England be English culture, even though many of his provinces are still Anglo-Saxon or Norman.

Hey Cybr,

I really enjoy your Immersion module, especially the seduce plot (which is hilarious, and so utterly appropriate to the game...and it really made my day when I abducted an Armenian queen, forcibly married her, so she hated me, and then by seducing her, and gifting her, converted her to Zoroastrianism).

However...the kidnappings and the fabrication events are just too much. With even a middling sized kingdom, I had dozens and dozens of plots going. 40 known, at least 12 fingered at any given time. Really no rhyme or reason to it. I had to turn on auto-quash plots just to survive the mind-numbing spam of one bishop after another fabricating evidence or kidnapping some dude's concubine, and that sadly, made other plots that I was actually interested in (like plots by my dukes), get ended before I could take advantage of them.

I had to go into the ao plots file, and even though I didn't want to remove the kidnap or fabricate plots...I had to make them MUCH more restricted, so that basically those particular plots are only launched by the most seedy individuals. I had to for example, make the kidnapping/fabricate betrayal/treason plot unavailable to characters with kindness, humility, charitable, bravery, etc.

I would've liked to make it so that characters with the ambitious or spymaster traits could still do them, but I couldn't make it work right.

But even so, modded to where only real despicable scumbags can do that kind of stuff, like paranoid envious craven douchebags, the game was still vastly enhanced. I was a bit amused at the villains that sometimes showed up, and it was believable they'd be doing underhanded things and it wasn't just EVERYBODY in my realm kidnapping someone for the heck of it.

Made the game vastly more playable. Might be worth some attention of your own. I'm sure you'd have a defter touch. Mine was hamhanded.

I also modded it to where Intrigue could lower revolt risk (roughly 10 points of intrigue would lower 1% of revolt risk), but also modded it so that many more things give revolt risk, and even some cultures have base revolt risk...for example, Normans and Bedouins have exceptionally strong cultures, but a 3% base revolt risk just for being that culture. In practice, even an average lord, with an average wife and an average spymaster can muster the ~30ish Intrigue (the second intrigue number which takes council and wife into account, which the game looks at for all global bonuses) to negate it. But things do get rocky when calamity hits.

I did this because I found myself consistently neglecting Intrigue.

Hello again, how about some more converter screens? Let's look at something abit more controversial than icons and culture names. Namely, let's look at West and East Africa, converted in the 867 start.

Before I start, I'd just like to call your attention to the fact that cybrxkhan and PDS didn't exactly cooperate to make VIET's East Africa and the EUIV map look similar province-wise, and well, they dont. As such, it's quite impossible to get the map to look similar between both versions. I did try to make sure they're ballpark similar and the province count isnt screwed by the conversion, but lines-wise, sometimes a country will get a extra sliver of land, sometimes it'll lose a stretch.

Without further ado, let's look at West Africa

(Do note all VIET adds in this area is the coastal provinces in Guinea and Senegal, the inward stuff in Mali is PDS's code. I might tweak it going foward but for now the priority is adding the VIET stuff, not changing PDS's)
Not alot to say here. Chemama becomes coastal (province difference) while guinea becomes landlocked as it takes over the (empty) neighbour Futa Jallon to avoid being folded out by lack of provinces. Since Futa Jallon is also a guinean territory, I dont see this as a big problem.

In East Africa the first change you should see is how Semien jumped from one place to another and Abissynia is...off. Well, this is where the different maps come into play. CK2 and EUIV map place Gonder is completely different places and so is Semien, while Abyssinia has roughly the same provinces as it had, just in somewhat different shapes (Axum is an abissynian vassal). Beyond that, the somalis get abit more land north of Djibouti because of province shapes while Nubia loses well... Nubia, because the region in EUIV is the meeting point of 3 different provinces, but it does get an extra province up north. In the provinces cybr added in Sudan things are remarkably similar despite the province names being off between both versions (the conversion is made by geography, not province names).

After some final testing tomorrow, if no glaring bugs pop up (fingers crossed) the converter should go live in time for dinner :)

@Damocles: Glad you're enjoying the mod. Many of the new ambitions and plots have actually been recently added in 1.4.0 and were integrated from the most excellent Additional Objectives mod (one of the first mods I enjoyed when I started playing CKII). Anyhow, several players have brought up the issue about several of the plots being too common. I don't know whether this is because the code simply encourages the AI to like plotting these plots more, or because there are simply more plots for the AI to use. I do think I have a way to possibly reduce their occurence, very similar to yours but not as heavy-handed - we'll see if it works out in 1.4.1.

As for the revolt risk stuff, I don't really like the idea of having intrigue reduce it (it does make sense, but I believe intrigue is useful enough already). Having some cultures be more risk-prone is a fascinating idea, though, and something I might throw in for a number of cultures just to make things a pain in the ass for would-be conquerors.

@OrdepNM: Those look awesome. :D

By the way, are you planning to 'release' the converter here in this thread or in your own thread? I would think releasing it in its own thread would be better since it'll allow you to handle any bug reports and such from there, and since you're planning to make several versions for a few different mod combos, but what are you thinking of doing?

Right that, I was going to PM you but then I noticed the serer culture had gone AWOL, got mad, went to fix it and forgot about it :p Well might as well conduct that here so others can give their opinion.

There's gonna be 2 versions of the converter, one for the VIET map and other for the PB map. The converter is perfectly fine with doing nothing with code for things that dont exist in the mod youre running, so its not a problem to run the VIET converter without Ancient Religions even tough the code for them is there. Map is preety much the onlyexception in this regard.

As for the thread, with bug reports specifically, thats really up to you. I'm totally fine getting bug reports here and if the CK2+ bug reporting thread is any indicator, such threads tends to sink preety fast because people just keep posting bugs in the main thread anyway. On the other hand, I totally get it if you tell me you dont want people posting EUIV screens in the VIET thread and would prefer to have those in their own corner.

Delivery is another thing. By far the easiest way would be to simply integrate the converter into VIET (all you need to do is paste the folder in commons) while I'd still post new versions here basically for early adopters and people who know their way around the files, and to provide some additional testing. The only downside for you is that you'd need to let me know of any changes to the avaliable cultures or religions or map changes a day or 2 before release so VIET actually carries a converter that works with the current version of the mod. Again, up to you.

And here's a nestorian Golden Horde, with its pzazz cross and all :p
