Hi,

I'm playing PB+VIET all modules, no ahistorical empires. About 10 years ago gametime the Liao Empire came into existence in Mesopotamia on former Templar (catholic) lands. So i was thinking to myself, isn't this a chinese empire? but continued playing not giving it more thought. Then at the time of the screenshot I see China! on former Roman empire lands, so there must be something off right? but then they are somewthere in the gamefiles, so it cant be an accident.

If this needs to go to the PB thread tell me. ck2_5.jpg

Nothing I could think of that would cause the problem. The code for the rebels and pirates' landed titles are, to my knowledge, exactly as they are in vanilla.

Hmm, weird, I have no clue then, as it doesn't happen in Vanilla or SOLAM, so I have no clue ;P

A quick look at the code I have for the new Jewish landed titles shows nothing suspicious, unfortunately.

Huh, may have just been some random vanilla bug that happens to rulers with a unlanded religious head, as they usually don't have a ruler (unlanded religious head, that is, as even the Orthodox Patriarch has one).

Hmm. So basically you're saying it *might* be a weird vanilla bug, then?

Yep, it usually happens when someone who deosn't own a "horde" gets the event, has happened a few times for me a long time ago, haven't had it happen recently to me (maybe 3 or four Major patches ago?). It's just a suggestion, but it sounds like the exact thing is happening. Let me see if I can find the event. Okay, found them: It's 60004, 60005 and 60006 (Ilkhanate, Golden Horde and the Timurids). Okay, just tried it and event 60003 (the timurids arrive) seems to do it (somewhat). A couple of rulers got some troops when I did the event as the Mongol Empire and as the Sultanate of Egypt, it gave it to semien (A jewish ruler down in eastern africa) and ar-garizim (The Samaritan religious head). Wasn't able to reproduce it completely, but that should give you somewhat of an Idea, I have no clue what causes it to randomly give troops to some people and why it decides to fire for random people as well.

The Mongol troops get assigned to many of my vassals, not just one - and it seems to happen consistently.

Yep, that's the one I'm talking about, I'm not able to reproduce it anymore (since a few patches ago) but, that may still be a problem.

Alright, after that huge wall of text, I'm done ;P

Hope you figure it out. -Chazzen01

The region was fragmented so it was easier for Iceland to conquer. Templars in mesopatamia anyone? same game :) (Where Liao Empire is now)

Granted, republics seem to hold their own but i think they are just about right, they should not be pushovers for the cash you can get off them.

cybrxkhan, were you able to reproduce it from the save files?

Haven't looked into yet, but I will. I'm just hoping that it's some weird vanilla thing as Chazzen01 hinted at.

It's definitely VIET's fault given that those two titles are in VIET. A quick look through the files and I've figured out why - apparently I missed transferring a couple of files from the vanilla version of VIET to the PB version of VIET, these files would've effectively told China and the Liao Empire (aka the Khitan) to not exist (until, in theory, some event would cause them to - basically like vanilla's Mongols). I'll have that fixed in the next version - as for now there is no way to fix that in your save game.

Hoping it's a vanilla thing, but we'll see - maybe I missed out on a change in vanilla's mongol events or something.

I have a question. I was playing as Queen of Ireland and she fell in love with a random courtier and during the span she got pregnant. When the kid was born the game announced that he was a bastard but that the father (the courtier refused to acknowledge him). So he became a bastard. Shouldn't the decision to legalize him be my choice?

I could understand that since its just an affair and not a matrilineal marriage that the game might get wonky, but I was a little annoyed that some random courier had the final say on the situation.

I ended up making the kid a bishop when he was 2, but the whole thing seemed a little lame.

Checking up more on the Jewish Mongols thing, it seems like it is at least a PB issue, not VIET. If you start plain PB at the 1219 bookmark and trigger event 60001, the Mongol hordes that appear are assigned to Semien.

I'll post in the PB thread.

Yeah, unfortunately can't do much about that vanilla thing. I guess the way it can be rationalized is that the courtier is still a nobleman of sort, probably, so it's not like he's some random peasant - in a patriarchal world dominated by men, as the father he still has the right to do with the child what he wants, even if the woman is a queen.

Hmm. I see. Now if I read that correctly you're triggering the event while you're 'playing' as a Mongol, correct?

No, it doesn't seem to matter who you are playing! At least I tried the Latin Empire and the Count of Orvieto; same result. Mongol hordes appear as Semien troops.

Hmm. I see, that's weird.

Can I use this with already started vanilla savegames?

Only the Events and possibly the Core modules are compatible with old vanilla saves. Traits and definitely Immersion are not.

Good to hear it's an easy fix from what i make up of it. Now i wonder what on earth you were thinking to put them in? :) Some alt-history where they arriveto stomp the Timurids from the east? I wonder what the converter makes of that :)

I am planning a Khitan/Chinese themed update in the future, and to the surprise of some it won't actually be crazy alt-history.

The Liao Dynasty, or the Khitan, actually invaded and ruled over the area held by the Qarakhanids at the 1066 start. Fleeing from the Jurchens (the ancestors of the Manchus who founded China's last dynasty, the Qing), led by a relative of the Liao royal family, the Khitan attacked the Qarakhanids and the Seljuks in the 1130s and 1140s and basically conquered most of the Qarakhanid land and dealt the Seljuks a devastating blow. The Khitan would then rule over that area until the arrival of Genghis Khan, establishing what was known as either the Western Liao Dynasty or the Kara-Khitan. Granted, the slight majority of their territory was outside of CKII's map, but then again so were the Qarakhanids, and the latter are in the game, so I see no reason why the Khitan shouldn't be (at least in VIET). Despite ruling over a mostly Muslim population, the Khitan continued many of the practices they picked up in China - devout worship of Buddhism (a few Khitan rulers were fanatically so - forcing Muslims to convert by the sword), Chinese imperial titles and administration, Chinese bureaucracy based on the imperial examination (the Prince who led the Khitan to the Middle East, in fact, held a very high and prestigious degree from this exam), etc. What you had was essentially a variation of China itself in the Middle East.

Thus that's why those titles are in. The Khitan are the perfect excuse for a Chinese-themed update without having to resort to Sunset Invasion-like measures. They'll also present probably one of the more difficult challenges once they're playable from the 1141 start (when they historically dealt the final blow to the Seljuks and established themselves in the region) - can you build a Chinese Empire within 70-80 years in a hostile, mostly Muslim environment, before the Mongols come?

Had to look it up. Who would have thought, chinese rulers in the middle east. This opens up some nice possibilities indeed, a buddist Persian empire! The Seljuks can use some competition in the east esp. in the early years of the 1066 scenario, the Cumans too. Looking forward to what you will make of it.

I may have solved the Jewish Mongol problem. The Mongol troop events fire for Jewish rulers, apparently because the Mongol events have alternative options for christian, muslim, pagan, and zoroastrian rulers, but not Jewish ones. Hence the troop-granting option seems to fire for Jewish rulers, despite the landed trigger requirement for the troop granting option.

Whether or not that makes sense, I changed the alternative triggers from:
Code:
 		trigger = {
			OR = {
				religion_group = pagan_group
				religion_group = zoroastrian_group
			}
			NOT = { has_landed_title = e_golden_horde }
		}

to:

Code:
 		trigger = {
			OR = {
				religion_group = pagan_group
				religion_group = zoroastrian_group
                                [COLOR="#00FF00"]religion_group = jewish_group[/COLOR]
			}
			NOT = { has_landed_title = e_golden_horde }
		}

No more Jewish Mongols!

EDIT: Since VIET adds the eastern_group, it may be necessary to add that, to prevent Buddhist Mongols! I see China and Liao Empire hordes, since there are landless Buddhist sovereigns existing under VIET.

Yup. The Khitan/Chinese-themed update is something I've always wanted to do for VIET since its early planning, but never really got the opportunity to since i kept getting distracted. But who knew it was possible - seemingly Sunset Invasion-esque alt history that's actually plausible?

Ah, thanks for that. That does make quite a bit of sense. Fix will be added in the 1.4.1 update.

I have been really enjoying this mod, thanks for making it!

Glad you're enjoying it. :)

A humble request. Republic Kingdoms have law options: enable or disable title revokation.

In fact is that even possible?

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean in PB+VIET, where crown laws have been separated into different laws, and you're noticing that Republics can enable/disable title revokation? (i.e. a PB thing)

Or do you mean you're suggesting that Republics be able to revoke titles?
