Hello all,

I'm pleased to announce the first version of the converter is *nearly* completed. Once thats done with it will be time to do some testing to make sure everything is going smoothly. Unfortunately I dont have any games running and would like to broaden my testing to scenarios other than starting points, mainly due to all the cultures cybr adds that you dont always get to see. As such, if you have any game saves you could send my way, it'd be most appreciated. Here's what Im mostly looking for:

-saves for VIET or PB+VIET or PB+VIET+Ancient Religions, please specify which one it is.
-Saves that have landed characters of cultures introduced by VIET (pictish, khitan, siculo-arabic, icelandic, etc) some provinces should also be of that culture.
-saves with jewish landed characters (if more than one jewish culture is landed, better), some provinces need to be of their culture
-saves where "crazy" things happened, Golden Horde is France, Fatimids in Scotland, whatever.
-If someone has been playing with the character creator and made himself an asian character who has culture converted some provinces, send that my way as well.

Other than that, send whatever you want, the more and more diverse tests I get to run, the smaller the chance of bugs slipping through.
Dude, you can easily manufacture your own ahistorical worlds for testing purposes using console controls. Granted it might be a pain to look up all the province ids and change cultures and religions manually but I think it'd be much faster than several hours of gameplay.

Oh I know and will be making one for some specifics I wanna test, but I'm trying to cut some work here :p Theres a reason why I dont have any games to test, its because I havent been able to actually play the damn game in ages :D

Plus literally nothing is faster than "ask people for their saves".

@cybr, thanks, please send them my way :)

Eh, "Some cultures doesn't have cultural buildings"(c)
IIRC it applies to all asians who're not in altaic/iranian/arabian groups

Judaic religion tab hasn't interface 5-bloodied-holy-sites-shows-there
Dunno about vedic and eastern (haven't look there yet)

The asians arent really supposed to be played. As far as I know cybr will be using them somehow on the update for muslim republics.

Hi all, I'm back from vacation; very good vacation, actually, in a strange and personal way, but personal stuff aside, that means I'm now able to respond more or less as normal. I won't go through and respond to everything everyone has posted while I was away (obviously), but feel free to bring up any previously mentioned bug reports, suggestions, etc. again. I have made a note of all bugs and issues mentioned in the thread while I was on vacation (I just didn't have the time to respond fully), and will try to fix most of them, particularly the bug with Trebizond and the ERE, in the 1.4.1 update, the ETA of which will be sometime late this weekend.

Additionally, thank you everyone who's taken the survey; I'm getting more replies than I expected, and it has all been very helpful, particularly the last question - while I'm not able to satisfy everything everybody mentioned, I will be trying to add and/or tweak some things based on those comments, particularly a few customization options to turn off some of the CB changes (particularly cooldowns, I think I've figured out a way to do it adequately). Anyhow, a few statistics for your reading pleasure:

  • Events is the most-used module, with almost 100% of respondents using it. Actually, only one respondent doesn't use Events.
  • About 1/3 of respondents don't use or are unaware that there are customization options. I suspect that many that do use them aren't fully aware of all the ones available, though.
  • 70-75% of respondents use PB with VIET, which is higher than I expected (I would've guessed somewhere around 50%); to give an idea of how much that is, the mod used second-most alongside VIET is Arko's, which has about 25-30% of respondents using.

@Teutonizer: Yeah, they aren't meant to be played - as OrdepNM hinted they will be used in the upcoming Muslim Republic themed update, for basically possible characters your patrician might encounter and bring along. I will however give these cultures a placeholder culture building and retinue just for those who want to play them for the lulz.

@SicilianSaint: Only the Events and Traits modules are compatible with SWMH currently. (And Assets too, of course, since it's required for all and any combos and versions of VIET modules)

In the Muslim republic update...is that going to be only Muslim republics (based on religion) or middle-eastern themed republics (based on culture)? Also, would it be possible to include these features for Zoroastrian republics as well? (Potentially Tengri, but especially Zoroastrian.)

It will pretty much be based on both religion and culture - religion-wise it will be all non-Christian and non-Pagan republics (except for Tengri and East African Pagans), culture-wise it will be for most of the Middle Eastern, East African, and far eastern cultures. I just call it the "Muslim Republic" update because the Muslim patricians will be the ones most likely to be around, and calling it the "Muslim, Zoroastrian, Tengri, Arabic, Persian, Altaic, East African, East African Pagan, and North African Republic" update is a bit wordy.

@Teutonizer: The vedic and eastern religions are fine, but I think the Jewish religion *might* be missing a holy site or two, so I'll look into that.

Hmm, that's true. They are missing the 5 holy sites in the PB version (though that's partly because I had assumed PB already gave them holy sites as it already has a Jewish religion), though I guess that might not be the issue.

Otherwise I guess I'm not sure why that issue is happening.

On the problem of the random coa's, its a simple line to change in the pagan_group entry in the religions file. Just change ''has_coa_on_barony_only ='' from no to yes.

Thanks for that. It was getting annoying seeing random flags for that entire regions counties and duchies that also seemed to randomly change all the time.

CYBR! drop everything! in my thread complaining about quick reformation(it's irrelevent in the mod) http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...rmed-religion-cause-Tengri-reformation-in-888 Sbolshevik linked his thread http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?716282-Improving-non-Norse-and-non-Mongol-pagans talking about giving altaics prepared invasions. I don't know how crazy or flawed my plan is but read my chunk of paragraph in my thread about how it MAY be possible to have eastward movement of tribes, I'll just copy/paste

great idea, prepared invasions turn off at 40 realm holdings, maybe have an option like the magyars to "drop the east" to be able to invade richer western lands. but you should be able to invade then drop the lands of the kingdom you once had... hmm... maybe this can be modded in like the Hungarian invasion to have tribes moving westward.... Hungarians move west drop the east and the pechenegs do something similiar.... but how to make it so the ai has the tribes pushing westward from the far east...? maybe allow count level vassals of different cultures(say the pechenegs are subdued by the cumans) have the option of re-setting up the tribal kingdom of pechenegs and invade the west so you can free yourself from the Cumans... the last problem would be culture shifting... maybe all altaic cultures can shift quickly within the altaic group meaning a pecheneg invasion into Wallachia will convert the Avars and Cumania into Khazaria/Pechenegs will convert them to Cuman.... this may all work...

on top of this, you can tie this in with the de jure system so a pecheneg vassal in de jure outside his Khan liege (aka pecheneg vassal under Khazarian Khan of Khazaria but the vassal is in Taurica) only that Pecheneg could invade westward and not all of them.

And indeed you may want to throw in some ai only stuff and let the player invade eastward if they so desire.

EDIT: I was jk about the drop everything btw :p but tell me what you think if you ever plan on going back to the steppes

Hey Cybr, I know you're busy and don't expect you to get to work on this(you have quite a bit on your plate :p) but read this and let me know what you think, if you like it I can just wait for a few patches and bring it up again later.

Hey. There appears to be two little problems. Turning off child mortality does not work at all, for one. I lost an entire half of my ten kids and two of their mothers.

The other is that I keep getting options to turn my ward into a "Zoroastrian Zoroastrian." He started off Zoroastrian. I'm Zoroastrian. This fires over and over so much he never got any other traits. For reference, he's a different culture from me because the Tajik event fired. I am Tajik, he is Persian. It SEEMS that console-changing his culture made it work fine. I am really honestly not sure what happened here.

I've thought it about several times, and I admit my reaction is a bit mixed, not so much because of the idea but mainly since I am not sure how I would be able to code it in satisfactorily and in a way that would suit my tastes in terms of balance and historical plausibility (which may differ from others). There is also the issue of how I can even ensure they invade in the right invasion - I could do somewhat arbitrary restraints where, say, you can only invade Taurica if you control Alania or Cumania, for instance, but that sounds a bit limiting and would be rather annoying to code. Still, I think I might be able to figure out some sort of limited way to make tribal invasions more interesting or something similar.

On the childbirth mortality thing I will look into it, it was one of the first customization options I included so it would be unfortunate if it was not working.

As for the Zoraostrian Zoroastrian thing, do you have a screenshot and/or a savegame where it happens constantly? That would help as I am currently unsure what would be causing that sort of issue.

Still, I think I might be able to figure out some sort of limited way to make tribal invasions more interesting or something similar..

The Key idea is to make the hordes use the prepared invasion and "abandon east of the carpathia" the invasions are on a De jure basis and the ai are looking to invade from east to west. (From Cumania to Khazaria, Khazaria to Taurica, Taurica to Wallachia.) give all altaic cultures the "form kingdom of X" decision(without ridiculous magyar troop swarm.) and with that they drop the eastern lands keeping the chaos alive in the steppes.

The key would be making the prepared invasions making you independent of your liege. So only a Chief(or maybe this should be restricted to High Chief? or even mega-duke?) with very high prestige and/or piety would invade west. take a kingdom and separate from his overlord(it does seem a bit harsh if you're playing the overlord but let's be honest you shouldn't have let anyone one warlord under you become so prestigious. The reasoning I had for letting only a chief do this is because you want it to be some fringe dude invading west so his original Overlord isn't totally screwed over. This event of preparing an invasion westward would still be rare because it's dependent on a highly prestigious chief.

Additionally: to keep a super king from using the "form kingdom" decision I had said earlier, make the prepared invasion set a small flag that would allow use of the decision, that way only a small pecheneg chief is going to kingdom is gonna fire it and not Mega Cuman Emperor of the steppes.

Problem, What happens when Mega Hungary/Mega Cumania/Mega Khazaria are on the scene? I'm still brainstorming, but I really think this could be used. I think this rough sketch of an idea can really be used to help the steppes as a whole.

EDIT: Alternatively, ONLY allow kingdom level dudes to do this. they (let's take Cumania) invade west and set up a kingdom in the Alania/Taurica ish area and then abandon the east leaving all the counts/dukes independent. You get prestige and you have moved your kingdom westward. In history the Avars moved west, then that Magyars, Then the Pechenegs, Then the Cumans, then the Mongols. they didn't really abandon the east but had it conquered by another tribe moving in from the east.

the requirements in VIET are much more strict.

Okay, one more time (with feeling).

So I need to convert to Asatru before reforming the Norse religion to Odinism or whatnot?

I am not referring to territory or Piety requirements. I recognize that I don't have all the requirements, but the religion part (i.e. Norse) is what I am asking.

My ruler & his vassals are religion = NORSE.

The requirement is religion = ASATRU. There's an X by that because I fail the requirement for reform due to having the wrong religion (I am NORSE, not ASATRU).
