Hello all,
As some of you might know, I'm currently doing the converter for VIET to EUIV (I can say work is going abit slower than Id hope, if you check my location and follow the news you may be able to guess why) and today I had the chance to see Meneth's official converter for Project Balance. Looking at the files, I quickly noticed we both approached this with rather different mindsets. As it is, with Project Balance, if you are say a slovenian character in PB, after conversion your kingdom will become croatian, and if you are jewish, you become orthodox. Simple as that. While I dont criticize Meneth and his work, this is not the approach I was going for, but it did make me question exactly what people want from their converter. As such I thought I should ask,
Right now I can do this in 2 ways, I can follow Meneth's lead and simply convert all the added stuff into stuff thats already in EUIV (Uighur -> Chinese, Pecheneg -> Tatar) which will be very quick to do, so much so that I'll be likely do have it all finished for both versions by tomorrow.
OR, I can stick to my original plan and actually add every single culture in cybr's anedoctically (is anedoctically a word?) long list of cultures he added to his mod (Uighur -> Uighur, Pecheneg -> Pecheneg), plus unique entries for the new religions (jewish -> jewish). This will take me longer as its a higher ammount of work and I dont have cybr's knowledge of ancient civilizations and thus need to spend time reading wikipedia articles on people I never knew existed, to figure out how to best convert them, with the upside being that your converted game in EUIV will look considerably closer to what you left behind in VIET or VIET+PB.
Personally, my heart goes for the second option, even tough its a bigger heap of work and I'll eventually have to bug cybr all the time asking the weirdest questions like "were the uighurs more chinese or more mongol?" I believe at the end we'll have a richer converted game, even if the wait will be longer. Regardless, its good to be democratic about these things, so what kind of converter do you want for VIET?
