On the names of Tartaria and Turkestan I can change them to depend on what culture holds them, yeah. Turkestan however would technically apply to pretty much all of the non-Mongol Altaic cultures around there (Cumans, Khzars, Turks, etc.) since they're all Turkish.

alright. Maybe I only dislike Turkestan cause I think of modern country and it sounds more... kingdom tier honestly.

The name has I believe been use in Persian sources since before modern times, but it doesn't sound very Empire-like admittedly, though I really can't think of anything better in that area. Still in my opinion it can sort of represent a possible successor Gokturk Khaganate or one of the big Turkish nomad confederations there, maybe.


I am actually beginning to consider maybe adding in some provinces in Siberia (for the vanilla version) in a far future update to give myself some more room to play around with de jure kingdom and empire setup (I am not too fond of having the Empire of Pohoja sort of thing, for instance, but a (fictional) Empire of Siberia would work for me). And as an excuse to add in more provinces for the lulz.

something Khaganate would be perfect imo, Dynasty or culture khaganate maybe? pretty historical: Gokturks, Uighur Khaganate etc. It's perfect.

Hmm. "Gokturks" would work as a culture-unique localization for the non-Mongol Altaic cultures, actually. Granted, it's mildly anachronistic, but then again vanilla has names like Britannia, Taurica, and Italia, so I guess this isn't too bad.

Hey cybrx, I'm trying add in my own culture building, where are the files to for the description of the building?

Seems like most of the localizations for buildings are in "localisation/v1_09.csv". Obviously you should make your own localisation file for any new buildings you add.

Speaking of culture buildings, do the jewish cultures have culture buildings and retinues? I never bothered to play them so I wouldnt know.

Actually you're right, Britannia was still used frequently enough during medieval times. Though my main point is that the game does use anachronistic Roman names when more contemporary medieval names were around.

Glad I brought that up then :) Well as much as Id like to see something unique fornthe jews retinue-wise, if we're realistic about this, any jewish lord in the time period would most likely draw his cultural retinue from whatever region he happened to be from: heavy cav if he was ashkenazi, light if he was sephardi, heavy inf if he was romaniote, etc.

A rather interesting idea would be to have a retinue with abit of everything... To symbolize the aliyah and the multiple jews from all backgrounds, tough Im not sure if thatd work gameplay-wise, if wether that might be better as an holy order hireable by the King Of Israel.

Just tested the PB version of VIET 1.4.0, and it appears to be relatively stable. Now I just need to test the portrait fix versions, do some minor touchups here and there, and we should be good to go.


Glad I brought that up then :) Well as much as Id like to see something unique fornthe jews retinue-wise, if we're realistic about this, any jewish lord in the time period would most likely draw his cultural retinue from whatever region he happened to be from: heavy cav if he was ashkenazi, light if he was sephardi, heavy inf if he was romaniote, etc.

Hmm. That's a good point. For now though to save time I've just created a light inf/cav for the Jews, but I'll probably change it in the future.

A rather interesting idea would be to have a retinue with abit of everything... To symbolize the aliyah and the multiple jews from all backgrounds, tough Im not sure if thatd work gameplay-wise, if wether that might be better as an holy order hireable by the King Of Israel.

Sounds like some awesome fantasy alt history elite military unit. :D It would ideally be creatable via decision, sort of like the Varangian Guard or the Zhayedan from MZ. I've made a note to myself to add that to 1.4.1.

Cybr is it possible to disable reforming the religion until a different decision is enacted first? like you need to invent an alphabet before you reform the religion?

Unfortunately not possible, as the "decision" to reform a religion is hardcoded, the only things I can change are the values for the piety requirement and moral authority. Which is pretty annoying.

Instead of Empire of Turkestan use Turkish Empire if people are upset.

Adding more provinces in Siberia is a great idea. Who cares if it's ahistorical? It's a great excuse to add more cultures and kingdoms while making the Empire of Rus and the Turkish Empire more normal sized by taking Perm and making it the bottom part of another empire. (Perhaps create the Mali of the North in Siberia?)

In 70CE, a crack retinue unit was sent to exile by the roman empire for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly scattered to the winds, settling in the most diverse regions of the world, until they returned. Today, still wanted by the pogroms, they survive as soldiers of faith. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... the א-Team....Just as long as youre the king of Israel, otherwise youre out of luck

Thing is VIET already has a Turkish Empire. ;) (It's the special one the Turks form if they conquer Constantinople, for Ottoman Empire-style shenanigans)

I'll just keep it Turkestan for now, with Gokturks as localization for most non-Mongol Altaics. Most of the Empires are mildly to greatly ahistorical anyways, so it's not much of a big deal in my opinion.

Still, I guess I can sort of wing it and see what I can do with it.

More or less. I guess if anyone complains about the Urals being off and the Siberian provinces being 70% fantasy I'll just point them to SWMH. :D

Maybe throwing in the Siberian provinces would work with the Slavic-themed update.

bah damn. How else can converting away from Paganism be seen as more profitable than reforming then? This is really key in balancing the entire North and far eastern halves of the map.

The only way would be to give reformed Pagans certain maluses, for instance, but I can't really think of anything that would 1) make sense, and 2) not seem artificial/heavy-handed (i.e. "lol you're reformed now lose 50% tax rate because we need to weaken you")

yeah no no. I think just making Christianity very strong at converting your vassals maybe? the reform conditions are about as strict as possible without going overboard(still too easy for norse imo but oh well)
