Do the CK2+ -compatible parts of VIET include the flavor things like griots/shamans and the spirits? I really like those kind of features and would be sad to find that they aren't compatible.
(Side note: unofficial update to vanilla patch 1.111 will be whenever Meneth gets the new version of PB up (since SWMH just updated). For CK2+ fans, it will include a proper update to the most recent version of CK2+)
It’s time for a new “dev diary” for the Jewish-themed update that is 1.4.0. Even without the Jewish-themed stuff, 1.4.0 is looking to be a very large update, much of it because of integrated mods, but also due to some new stuff here and there I’ve added. Originally I wasn’t going to do a Jewish-themed update until much later, but enough of you pestered me into doing it, so here I am. The Jews won’t be getting as much as the West Africans or Finnish pagans, but hopefully it’ll be enough for those who like playing the underdogs. Some of the Jewish stuff is from Frostschaden’s Jewish mod, mainly the decision to rebuild the Temple (if you control Jerusalem) but I’ve also added some new things myself.
In the preview screenshots below, I'm temporarily using option 5 from the Jerusalem event pic voting thing because it's currently the one with the most votes. If you haven't voted yet and want to, or wish to change your mind, feel free to do so! I won't "officially" choose a pic until shortly before 1.4.0 is released.
One of these new things is the Passover decision, available to any Jewish ruler; it is the Jewish equivalent of Ramadan or the Christian Feasts, and can be held every three years. It’s a somewhat small event chain compared to the other decision-related ones I’ve coded, but it is just as flavorful and immersive (I hope).
Speaking of Jewish rulers, there probably won’t be that many to choose (probably only in Semien in East Africa, if at all). There will however be a customization option that’ll change the Khazars to be Jewish at the 867 and 1066 starts; I figured it was a reasonable compromise for those who want Jewish Khazars. Otherwise, you’ll have to use ruler designer.
If you, as a Jewish ruler, manage to conquer and reclaim Israel, you’ll get a special event commemorating your achievement, effectively destroying the Kingdom of Jerusalem and granting you the Kingdom of Israel (if you don’t have it yet). One perk of reclaiming Israel is that it’d stop ‘maintenance’ events forcing Jews who marry non-Jewish characters, or are the children of non-Jewish characters, to convert to their spouse’s or parents’ religion (in other words, Judaism becomes an accepted and (relatively speaking) “powerful” religion like Christianity, Islam, or Zoroastrianism). You and your vassals can even receive Jews “making aliyah” (“returning”) to Israel via events. The Jewish courtiers who spawn from these events range from Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews, for instance, to the rarer Indian and Chinese Jews.
That’s more or less it for the Jewish-themed stuff. As for other additions, the most obvious and important is the integration is several mods of varying size and scope. Other features I’ll be adding in include a special event for the formation of the Principality of Antioch (which can no longer be formed like a normal titular title). There are also two new cogenital traits, Fertile and Imposing, and several new cultures, many of which are currently unused but will be featured in the Muslim “Republic” themed update (the themed update after this one).
Lastly, here’s the tentative changelog so far - again, I probably will add or remove some of these as I see fit (I will probably have to cut down on them a bit since I’m scrunched for time as I have a vacation at the end of the month). So far, though, this changelog looks as big as 1.3.0’s if not bigger, and it doesn’t do justice to all the wonderful mods I’m integrating.

While the CK2+ compatible modules of VIET include generic and simple flavor events, they do not include the meatier flavor and mechanics like griots and shamans, which are included in the CK2+ incompatible Immersion module. Currently, if you want to play the whole VIET suite, your only options are the vanilla or the PB-compatible version; I will be maintaining a PB+SWMH version of VIET in the future, but otherwise nothing else. Here's more on the matter, taken from the VIET FAQ here:
Will you ever make a fully-compatible version with CKII+ or The Prince and the Thane?
Short answer: no. For an explanation as to why not, see this post here. I will however continue to make CKII+ compatible versions of the Events and Traits modules so long as CKII+ stays updated to the vanilla patches. Nevertheless, the current team of modders taking care of CKII+ have told me their interest in integrating parts of VIET into CKII+. I have given them my approval and blessing, and while I will not take an active part in the integration of any part of VIET into CKII+, I look forward to helping and communicating with them as necessary. If you're a VIET/PB+VIET and a CKII+ fan and know both mods really well, it'd be great if you can give the CKII+ guys suggestions and ideas on what may or may not work.
Yeah, that's kind of the point. It's really akin to a Pagan reformation in VIET (which is extremely difficult, as you probably know) or something of that sort, something that the AI will never accomplish but the player could very occasionally (and probably with tons of savescumming). Israel-related stuff has been in demand in VIET since at least around the 1.1.0 update, so enough people pestered me I had to put it in eventually and with the integration of Frostschaden's stuff it was probably the best opportunity to do so.

I actually managed to reform the Norse pretty quickly (Ok I cheated a little but that's because I wanted proper Royal Numerals for my Fylkir ). Personally I can't wait for the Zoroastrianism update I hope you will do something with Manichaeism as it is a very fascinating religion that deserves some love.

Yeah, Manichaeism is really interesting. I did a research paper on it with one of my professors, so I am quite familiar with it. I think it's probably a good thing I decided to save the Zoroastrians for later, to give myself more time to think about what they could use. Still, even though its in the far future, planned features for them will probably include some special ceremony/sacrifice equivalent (though the Manichaeans will have a different one - actually, I might even make them their own religion within the Zoroastrian religion group and not a Zoroastrian heresy), as well as a Nowruz decision/event chain for Zoroastrian and non-Zoroastrian Iranians.
A little less than a week, since I go on vacation in about a week. Some of the stuff in the changelog (such as the NAE 2.0 integration) will have to be cut out if I don't have enough time, but most of the meaty stuff like the Jewish features in the 'dev diary' above should make it.

Please read about The Mazdaki Shahanshah if you would please. Communist Emperors are win and Mazdaki deserves any love Manichiaeans get I want a huge Mazdaki Empire.
EDIT: I also agree with the sentiment that Manichaeism should be it's own religion(in the Zoroastrian group but not heretic as you suggested)
In all seriousness, though, I'd love a good Slavic (be it eastern or western) music pack and/or special updates, like those given for even Jewish/West African. Poland might not into space, but it can into Europe when I play them - just seems like every culture group /but/ Central Europe is getting love (Exception: Upcoming Italian update).

My professor(who speceializes in Iranian history) did mention the Mazdakites here and there and how the Soviets loved them. Interesting fellows, anyhow.
I can probably throw in a few Mazdaki themed events for the Zoroastrian update just for the lulz because they are really weird, if the sources on them are to be believed.
For now I'll implement it mainly among certain pagan groups (and a few near pagans), but I will have to test for balancing reasons whether stuff like Muslim-Christian internarraige can work wirhout weird stuff happening,

Slavic pagans and being planned at the moment, though I do not know when I will be able to get to them - I so intend to have a themed update for every pagan group, anyways, so no need to worry there.
Just read about the Mazdakites. Wow socialists in the dark ages , I swear the more I look into Zoroastrianism and is heresy's the more interested I become, anyone know where I can get a good book on Zoroastrianism .
Just installed all the CK2+ versions. One slight issue i am having is that the new traits are all showing with the same symbol and the text is being written like_this with an underscore. Any help with that?
So I'm kind of curious, and I figured this would be the thread to ask it in. The event after you siege a place that gives you the option to imprison the leader, his family (with him or without, depending on if he's there), execute them all, or leave them...is that a PB, VIET, or Vanilla thing? Was doing some initial testing with the new SWMH last night and wasn't ever having the event pop up. Just not as fun as a norse pagan if you can't be collecting noble sacrifices!
Edit: Was using Events and Traits modules, obviously.
