I'm a bit busy today and this weekend, but I will try to see if I can get an unofficial update to the 1.111 patch as soon as I can. No guarantees it will be today, though, sadly, but we'll see.

i'm trying VIET with the new 1.111 hotfix and my portraits are all funky. any idea why that may be?

the second one

actually it's more like certain guys will have hair growing out of their eyes (horrifying) or the background will just look like a jumble of different backgrounds with a disembodied crown floating on it

i've always had issues with viet cause i'm kind of dumb when it comes to mods but i've never had this particular issue until today

Looking at the new 1.111 patch, I don't see anything that could be causing this, but for now I'm assuming that's the cause. Are hou using any other mods? Are you also using the portrait backgrond customization options? Lastly just rry reinstalling the entire thing, ie deleting all mod files and then putting them in again.

So, with the launch of 1.111 I assume we DON'T need the VIET's "trait fix" for our older saved-games to be played, right?

[EDIT] Still can't find any of my older saved games in the relevant tab when I launch the game. Also tried the "trick" to copy my saved game-file into the relevant "save game"-subfolders found in: .../Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings, but that didn't do the trick either...Fkn gr8...1,5 weeks of gameplay (and with a great score up to that point) lost!...I'm so fkn pissed, that I'll probably play again this game after the launch of VIET 1.4 and the relevant updates / compatches to it from the other major mods. Just to be...sure I won't lose dozens of game-hours for nothing!...:angry::glare:

It seems that Rus was not able to stop the Golden Horde in my game. In fact, the extremely large de-jure kingdom caused the golden horde to obtain a VAST swathe of land in one go since their Tribal Invasion CB targets an entire kingdom. This has resulted in half of Europe belonging to the Mongols. Fortunately (or unfortunately) the Jewish France that still has all of it's ridiculously large glitched armies has proceeded to defeat the mongols at every turn and even the full-on Aztec invasion to boot! I'm not sure whether to be happy for this glitch or very very scared. The OP French armies that cannot be disbanded (217.3k to be exact) all appear to be some kind of mongol event troops that will only decrease through battle. Even the leaders cannot be removed from the armies tab as they'll just keep re-assigning the position. Really odd bug. I might just have to quit this game because the time it'll take for that huge army to slowly get worn down is near forever because the Aztec invasion hardly made a dent in a single retinue. I might try to manually disband the kingdom, and use console controls to temporarily make the kingdoms, duchies and other positions seize to exist in order to make everything disappear. Assuming the armies will disappear when the titles do. :/

In any case, the point of the long rant: Rus needs to be split up. If Rus were in 4 pieces it could actually deal more damage to the mongol troops cushioning Europe more if they do fall. In addition I'm personally going to tinker with the AI settings in defines.lua so they'll use assaults less often. Anyways, for balance!

Can we expect this patch to be compatable with CK2+? ;)

Yup, hopefully you CKII+ fans will be satisfied with my meager offerings. :D

(But yes I have tested it with the new version of CK2+, just to make sure.)

I *think* so, but I'll have to test it in-game myself to make sure - the way the vanilla hotfix works may not necessarily work on mods, so I'll have to check to make sure.

In some test games the Mongols don't attack Rus because it's too big. :D (Might be AI figuring out whether its worth it)

But yeah, I've decided to tentatively split Rus into 4 for now - Kiev, Novgorod, Galich, and Chernigov/Vladimir/Moscovy. Perm will be merged into Novgorod, Volga Bulgaria, and Cumania nevertheless, but the Finno-Ugrics will still be able to form all of these kingdoms like before.

I'm going to see what you do before commenting. Although I suspect it'd only make Tartaria even harder to form because it never shows up in any of my games. (The Mongols and Seljuks make sure of that). In truthfulness I've never seen the following empires form: Kalmar Union/North Sea Empire, Brittania, Rus/Russian Empire, and Tartaria (by far one of the hardest to form because of how large it is). It might just be because of how unstable or large those regions are but those empires I've never seen happen ever.

Hmm. Oddly enough from the games I've played and the test games I've ran on vanilla VIET, the empires that are least likely to form (from the 1066 start) from what I've seen are Francia, Caparthia, Tartaria, and Arabia. The one I've seen the most of was Mali followed Scandinavia; others I see now and then are Britain/Britannia, Spain/Hispania, sometimes Abyssinia.

Anyhow, I suppose the real problem with Tartaria is that the region is pretty unstable as said - many of the rulers there are king-tier or powerful duke-tier realms.

Yeah, considering how mongol invasions almost gurantee no Tartaria I wonder if it wouldn't be too drastic to split it up into 2 empires. Just look at how small the Carpathian and Bulgarian empires that are like what, 2-3 kingdom empires? Tartaria needs a solid 5 kingdoms which contain some of the biggest duchies in the game on top of having to contend with the ERE for Alania and the mongols, seljuks, and russians for everything else. It's pretty tough considering how it's split between Tengri and Suomenusko regions from the start. So again, splitting Tartaria into 2 empires does not seem a bad idea.

I might consider splitting Tartaria, there is definitely sense in that, although I wouldn't know what would be the best wy of going about it - for instance I may take a kingdom or two from Persia, and one or two from Tartaria, and have some sort of Central Asian Empire distinct from Tartaria, but still not sure.

Probably wont have to update much, I couldnt find anything changed in the vanilla files Ancient Religions modifies.

Yeah, looks loke there won't be much from what I have seem. Unfortunately I won't have time to finish the update to the unofficial update tonight and possibly the next day or two, buut I would guess then that the VIET/PB+VIET unofficial updates would work with 1.111 patch then? Haven't had time to test that eiteher yet.

One solution could be to split up Cumania into the 2 kingdoms of Cumania and Kipchack (both Cuman kingdoms). Then you could just take Alania, Taurica, and half of Cumania (duchies of Sarkel + Itil) and turn that into an empire. The other empire would be the other half of Cumania, Volga Bulgaria, and Turkestan. There, 2 empires each with 3 kingdoms that are within relatively close proximity to each other. I can see at least one of those empires forming before the mongols show up and help to cushion the stompfest that usually follows. After all, if the mongols have to potentially go through up to 3 empires before hitting Hungary, Poland, or Lithuania I think Europe should be able to handle what's left of the mongols hordes.

Yeah, that might work, especially since I already have the Kipchaks at the 1066 start anyways.

So again, I will be real busy and mostly away from the house and my main computer in the upcoming few days, and won't have much time to ipdate to the newest vanilla patch, small as it is. However, it might work regardless since the new vanilla hotfix has a small amount of changes so you might want to all try anyways. I will try to see if I can get it out Sunday night or Monday. I'll still be checking in on the forums here and there, so feel free to continue making bug reports, comments, suggestions, etc.

is religious reconquest part of this mod or project balance? i cant declare holy war at on these norse >.<

Its part of Project Balance, but if I recall correctly I have not changed the requirements for those yet.

You were wondering about the black celtic portraits? Well here's my mod folder as you asked for.

Also VIET breaks religious reconquest casus belli that Project Balance puts in. It lets you select it but does not list as valid. Any idea how to fix?

Hmm, thanks. This is with the latest version of VIET, the unofficial update for patches 1.11/1.111, right? I probably won't be able to look into it if it's from before.

Hmm. Not sure why there would be a problem as I don't recall changing it, but I'll make a note to look into it.
