For some reason, some portraits (mostly Anglo-Saxon) show up as big, ugly black squares while selecting a character, and they're totally invisible in game. It breaks the game, as I cannot select any characters without portraits. I have tried installing the portrait fix, but nothing happened.

I own every single portrait pack. Can anyone offer some help?

So I'm using the new Events and Traits modules. After my ruler dies, I'm getting a blank event box with the letter "A' in it, and I can't close it or anything.

I'm thinking this is a small bug with the latest VIET release. Can you confirm cybr?

To clarify you're using *just* the Events and Traits modules? If that's so... well, I can only think of one possible reason why it'd be doing that.

Try this and see if it works: go to "mod/VIET Events/common/on_actions" and open up 00_on_actions.txt with notepad or notepad++ or something similar. Go to the following lines:

Are you sure you own every single portrait pack, including the most recent, the Celtic portraits? A few players have had portrait issues before believing they had all the portrait sets or believing VIET hasn't accounted for the Celtic portraits, but they are included.

Additionally, are you using any other mods?

You may also want to try redownloading the portrait DLCs, they might be messed up or something, and also making sure all the portrait DLCs are selected on your launcher.

Lastly make sure you've followed the instructions in the portrait fix to the tee, including making sure you're using the right version of the portrait fix (i.e. vanilla or PB version), sometimes even I myself mess up doing the portrait fix when I forget.

Anyhow as a last resort iuf nothing else works you can send me your local copy of your mod folder (either as an attachment here or as a download somewhere or whatever you prefer) and I'll see if I can diagnose the issue from there.

Yeah, as superskierpat said it's only there for your convenience so you don't have to set up the music. The actual music download links are in the first post, and each download contains instructions for installation and so on.

Sorry if this has already been answered, but how do i customize the faces? I don't care for the new Med faces or the Turkish/persian faces but i rather like the Saxon ones.

EDIT: Nevermind, i just went full derp and didn't dig into the readme.

EDIT: Wait, i DO have a problem, I can't seem to be able to restore the original Med portraits, just tried deleting portraits_mediterranean.gfx and it still won't go back. Help?

Hey I don't know if this a bug or just happenstance, but In my game it seems like the pope is excommunicating like crazy. Every country has had at least three kings that have been excommunicated. Recently the HRE went through 3 rulers in 2 years because of excommunication wars. Is this a bug or is the Pope mad with power?

It would be cool if Scotland had a cultural name for Picts. Im pretty sure a pictish nation wouldnt be scotland. It should be named Pictia or Pictland or something like that.
Just doing a quick bit of research, most historians use Pictland or Pictavia. I couldn't find if that's what they called themselves or not.

Hmm... What customization option did you try, if any? Deleting the original portraits_mediterranean.gfx should restore them to vanilla's default. If you're talking about the actual look (i.e. you want them to look darker than in VIET like what they do in vanilla and with vanilla's type of eyes), then go to "[PB] VIET Immersion/gfx/characters" and delete the folders called "byzantine_female" and "byzantine_male".

Although if that's the case you'd be the first person I know of who doesn't want the new mediterranean look.

Random number generator god gone crazy again, I guess. I haven't messed around with the code for excommunication at all (in fact I don't think that's even possible).

I have fixed the portrait issue by switching the Anglo-Saxons from from saxongfx to westerngfx.

It appears then that you either don't have either the Norse or Celtic portrait DLCs, or either one of those are not working properly for you, so I'd suggest you look into that just in case (the saxon portrait set uses assets from the Celtic and Norse portrait sets). Sounds good anyuways.

Hm, i just had a very fun game as the Ottomans but for some reason i didn't get the Fatih event thing after a conquered Byzantium (the city, ERE itself is still clinging to some aegean isles and epirus) Does this have something to do with the fact that Hungary owns one of Constantinople's cities (for some reason)?

Although if that's the case you'd be the first person I know of who doesn't want the new mediterranean look.

Haha, i actually don't mind it on spaniards and italians, but i think greeks look fine in "vanilla" mediterranean faces. Sorry i didn't clarify that

Okay, so i just consoleswapped to Hungary and granted independence to that annoying city, but i STILL didn't get Fatih after annexing it. Does this have something to do with my ruler being 13? (His brother started the war, but died of an illness he caught on Hajj FACEPALM)

Looking at the code, the requirements (relevant for us here) for the Fatih/Turkish empire event are:

  • Being Turkish
  • Being Muslim
  • Being independent
  • Not a prisoner
  • Not at war
  • Has the county of Byzantion or has someone in your realm who does
  • Has global flag "VIET Immersion On" (i.e. is using VIET Immersion)
  • Not has the global flag "Fall of Constantinople" (the flag is triggered by this event so unless the event already happened then the flag shouldn't be on)
  • Not has global flag "VIET Turkish Features Off" (in the customization options decisions)

Have you already received the Turkish Empire yet? It's also part of the event.

Anyhow most likely I'm assuming it's because you're still at war with someone. You may also want to wait a year if all the requirements are met - although the MTTH is very small (less than a day pretty much), the game engine is weird and it may sometimes take a while. If the event's still not firing, try firing it from console (the event is "ottoman.1") - once the event fires, you'll notice in the console screen it'll show all the requirements for the events; those that are met with green marks, those that aren't with red, and see whether there's red for any of the requirements.

Nah, don't worry about that, it's just modifying the MTTH. For instance the part with the kind basically says "this event will occur 0.01 days sooner than it normally would if the character in question is either kind or not kind." Similarly with cynical and diplomacy. So basically they try to make the event happen as soon as possible.

Preview of the upcoming Bohemian portrait set for VIET 1.3.7, for the Bohemians and tentatively for the Croatians and Slovenes - it combines a Western appearance with Russian clothes and beards and Christian Norse hair. Before anyone asks, no, I don't plan for this portrait to be used for any other Slavic group, I still want the rest of the Western and Southern Slavs to (mostly) use the Russian portraits as a base for more variety (though most of you can easily change that to suit your own tastes, and I guess I can throw in a customization option anyways).






Here's the current changelog for 1.3.7 by the way. Everything subject to change, of course, and there will probably be a few more things thrown in. Highlights so far inclide the adopt a child decision (inspired by Korbah's old work, although I've coded it from scratch and it works slightly differently), the Bohemian portrait set, and some more events to prevent random realms from turning Jewish (apparently the few instances it happened was because the rulers married Jewish courtiers (if the event happens to hit you (i.e. you yourself are a Jew married to a non-Jewish ruler) you'll have the option to not convert, so don't worry about that, for those who might be wondering)).

- Added X friend and rival events ?????
- Added music pack: English Renaissance 3
- Added Tibetan culture to the East Asian culture group
- Added new decision: Adopt child (available to any non-AI male ruler over 50 without a child, grandchild, or sibling)
- Added events where a non-ruler, non-heir, non-pretender Jewish spouse or child of a non-Jewish ruler is forced to convert
- Bohemians, Croatians, and Slovenes have a unique ‘bohemiangfx’ portrait set, combining a Western appearance with Russian clothes and beards and Christian Norse hair
- Kingdom of Volga Bulgaria is now formable by Finno-Ugrics and Finnish Pagans
- Kingdom of Scotland is called Pictland if ruled by a Pict
- Balticgfx now uses Celtic hair
- Balticgfx now has a non-Pagan variant that has Western headgear
- Andalusiangfx child portraits are now correctly Mediterranean instead of Western
- Ugricgfx now uses non-pagan Norse hair instead of Mongol
- Turkishgfx now has a non-Pagan variant
- Pechenegs don’t have large beards
- Norsegfx now uses Western hair if Christian
