Yes, anything with PB is compatible with PB alone. If you add anything afterwards, then it's more complicated. Make sure to have Viet Assets, and I would recommend Viet Music.

By the way, while I was waiting for a response, I actually started playing a game with PB/VIET to test it out and so far so good. I actually just had twin girls, lol. Anyway, thank you again for answering me and if you'd indulge me quickly once more.. is the checksum supposed to be XHEP or does it even matter? Also, PB and VIET are both compatible with 867 starts?

EDIT: I forgot to mention one more thing.. ugh, sorry for asking so many questions here, but when using ruler designer,
is it intended to have traits be neutral in terms of affecting age? Will a created ruler always start at age 16?

Experience New Finnish Pagan features: BEARS

The Finnish Pagan-themed update you’ve all been waiting for is up and ready! With over 70 new events (including flavor events and decision-related events), as well as several new decisions, traits, and more, not only are the Finnish Pagans getting more or less about the same as the West Africans got in 1.3.2, like the West Africans they’re also getting more flavor than all the non-Norse pagans got in TOG (no offense to PI). And, as a bonus, the Shaman stuff is also available to the Tengri Pagans. For those who haven’t been keeping up with the thread, you can read about how the new Finnish Pagans features work in the two “dev diaries” HERE and HERE (though do note some things have changed since then; in particular, the Bear Hunt event chain now has a small chance of firing events related to the orphan girl).

Also, VIET 1.3.5 was the first version of VIET to get 1500+ downloads. Yay VIET.

Key features of VIET 1.3.6:

Like always, I’ve tested both the vanilla and PB versions of the mod (as well as the portrait fix versions) for a few years each. Still, there are possibly and probably minor issues and bugs I may have missed particularly since this is a rather big update - as always, don’t hesitate to report anything. The Republic of Iceland bug is still at large, and for some reason I’ve been unable to get the new Finnish background working, but other than that I haven’t noticed any major issues or bugs.

Until then, enjoy the update, and make sure to try out the Finnish Pagan stuff. GO HUNT BEARS.

Shamans: healers, advisors, travelers to the Spirit World for Finnish and Tengri Pagans. Comes in male and female flavors.


Shamans can travel to the Spirit World to ask for advice on your behalf.


Haltija, or Guardian Spirits, now occupy all Finnish Pagan provinces - make sure they’re kept happy, or else you might suffer some consequences.


Your parents might give you trouble even after they’re dead, especially if your Karsikko markings were inadequate.


Hunt bears.


Hunt bears AND seduce young virgins. Or, alternatively, there’s a small chance you’ll get an event chain where you’ll adopt the orphan girl as your own child afterwards. (Though technically you could still do both if you’re into that kind of thing.)

Upcoming Plans

Obviously, the 1.3.7 update will fix any bugs/issues coming from the big 1.3.6. The 1.3.6 update, however, will probably the last themed update before the August DLC and the patch that will probably come with it.

The next major themed update will probably be Republic-focused with a minor focus of Italy - whether that will come with the 1.4.0 update (i.e. the one with the August DLC and new vanilla patch) or a little afterwards will have to be seen. This will hopefully mean either a Ball decision (the patrician equivalent of a feast) or a Carnival decision for Italians and Republics (whichever one I can get working better). There will also hopefully be a few new Republics, dynamically-spawning Republics for the 867 start, as well as several dedicated event chains.

Other things I’m planning for the 1.4.0 include a proper integration of Additional Objectives 2.0, new plots (humiliate and spread gossip) along with an associated Restore Honor CB (i.e. frivolous CBs for no reason), a few new provinces in East Africa (though nothing too detailed, as VIET isn’t SWMH, just a few new provinces for the lulz and to spice up the situation in East Africa), and Sardinians. Of course, this is just what’s planned - I may not be able to actually add in all that in one update (it’s all stuff I plan to do eventually anyways).

I’ll be putting up a dev diary or something as soon as I get some of these down in solid form. I expect to have some fun with the Republic event chains - I’ve already entirely planned two including a ‘pizza’ one and one ripped off from an Oblivion questline (but there will be references to things other than TES too, I’m starting to plan one that will be inspired by an arc from this one unusually nice economics-themed anime I watched a while back (actually, I’ve already thrown a few references about that one here and there)).

After the Republic/Italy stuff I’ll probably go for either the Tengri, Baltic, or Slavic pagans depending on what I can whip up for them. Probably the Tengri Pagans, but we’ll see.

My long term plan is to get a PB+SWMH version up and ready by the end of this year. Because people like you keep bugging me about a SWMH compatible version of VIET. :p

(Although in the past I know a few folks have managed to get working versions of PB+SWMH+VIET or VIET+SWMH together or something.)

Thanks to Jaidal for answering your initial questions for me.

Anyhow, I really don't know what the checksum is supposed to be given all the different combinations of modules, customization options, and versions of VIET, so it doesn't really matter (unless if you're playing multiplayer, of course, wherein you'll have to make sure everyone's using the same modules and customization options and whatever).

PB+VIET and vanilla VIET are both fully compatible with the 867 start date.

As for ruler designer, that's WAD. I just found it annoying that in vanilla you couldn't make the personality you wanted (even relatively balanced ones) without making your character a pensioner, so pretty much all the traits have zero effect on the age and a created ruler will always start at age 16. If you want the ruler to start at a different age (for instance so that you can start with kids or something), I can point you to the part of the code you'll have to change, as it's literally just one line.

And what is the name of this anime?

Spice and Wolf, technically it's an anime adaptation of a novel series (which may explain why I think it's pretty good). It's a good watch if you're not allergic to anime and have a lot of patience (it's a slow, slow series). It's about a merchant dude and his pagan wolf goddess companion who go around trading/scamming/dealing in basically medieval Europe with different names a 'fantasy' world. But really it's just medieval Europe in the late 1300s or early 1400s before the Lithuanian conversion to Christianity because the elements of fantasy are so few it's basically just medieval Europe. I mean I can even tell when they're in Poland (maybe Hungary, I dunno - somewhere close to Lithuania), for instance, and I'm assuming the pagan goddess is Norse. Good for seeing how medieval economics works itself into a story. And the dialogue.

In the highlighted section, change that 16 to whatever you want. In theory you could set it lower, although I've never tried it myself and dunno if that's bugged.

So no Khitan invasion in next versions?

Not in the immediate next versions. I'm planning to have the Khitan/Chinese stuff for the one year anniversary of VIET in December, I have a feeling it's going to be a real big update.

Ha, so thats why there are no Khitan in the Khitan invasion bookmark. I always wondered.

I believe, the last time i tried it, setting the ruler designer base age lower than 16 makes it impossible to start. It'll say that your character isn't old enough to have that many children, even if you have none. Maybe the game considers you a child? And since, in VIET, you can't increase a characters age with negative traits.... heh.

Yes, I like to mess around in the files and see what happens! It's fun!

Make sure the PB_VIET modules are in Crusader Kings II/mod/ and not Crusader Kings II/mod/Project Balance Modules.

Yup, pretty much. It's the only remnant of my attempt to start coding the Khitan stuff for VIET 1.1.0, which I scrapped once I realized I couldn't do it in time. Of course, once I have the Khitan in, it'd be the first bookmark with the playable Khitan.

Not for the 3000th post, the VIET thread's accumulating posts much more quickly now so I think it'd lose its appeal if I do it just every 1000th post now. :p

All modding starts with messing with the files anyways. :D

I just don't know what I'm doing...

The Finnish pagan province modifiers take a few days to a month to appear, though if you haven't gotten any of Immersion's other stuff (such as the various new decisions or the new portrait sets) then yeah there's probably a problem.

Let's see... possible tings off the top of my head:

1. Make sure you're using the PB modules, not the vanilla modules
2. Make sure you've actually installed all the modules, particularly Immersion, since that has most of the meat of VIET
3. Make sure that both the .mod file and the mod folder are installed properly
4. Make sure they're actually selected in the launcher
5. And as Fulmen says make sure you've installed it in the proper place and that all of the mods you're using are installed in the same folder

Lastly if you're using a zip program other than rar, there's a possibility the installation process might have been wonky, as several users have reported in the past (for instance the situation Fulmen mentioned above), so to be safe try extracting it with winrar if you haven't already.

Just found a fix to the Republic of Iceland bug, yay. Apparently the Icelandic patrician houses weren't defined in the landed titles since VIET 1.3.0, so that should thankfully be at last taken care of.

It's melting my face to see so many cultures with lower case first letters. tajik instead of Tajik, cumbrian instead of Cumbrian, I know it's nit-picky but please fix this for all those out there like me D: lol with love -User29 :p

EDIT: getting a weird cybrxkhan.5 event with no text, game is working, just not sure what it is o_O

EDIT 2: the ambitions looking for love and wanting to live into old age are weridly large and have the go to person icon.

EDIT 3: starting to think my version is just messed up, tons of titles aren't localized such as k-khorasan and d-perm D: what's happeningggg

Looks like you didn't install VIET Assets, as it contains all the localization and art files. So, well, you should have VIET Assets installed. (In case you missed it in the installation instructions (I know quite a number of people do), it's required for all versions and combinations of VIET (except for the music).) If you have already installed it however I'd suggest re-installing it, sometimes the installation gets messed up like that.

It would also explain why the Finnish province modifiers aren't showing up, as almost all modifiers used in VIET are defined in VIET Assets.

So I'm using the new Events and Traits modules. After my ruler dies, I'm getting a blank event box with the letter "A' in it, and I can't close it or anything.

I'm thinking this is a small bug with the latest VIET release. Can you confirm cybr?
