Music Pack 3 link is not working, which seems to be related to Celtic 3 since they give the same problem (They both link to stuff on Mediafire)

The other ones are downloadable easily enough. Looking forward to playing this mod!

Not sure why you're having issues with downloading. I checked to see if I could download it myself (and not using my mediafire account, of course, to try to reproduce the situation as accurately as possible) and I was able to. Only suggestion I'll have is to wait a while (maybe a day, since the music isn't that essential?) and see if you can download it again.

Well, I only use the Events, so it is kind of annoying... Can't I delete a file somewhere, to get it back to normal?

I forgot I left that in there for some reason. I think it was when I was trying to start giving most of VIET's decisions icons but stopped partway through because I didn't have enough time and effort to do it. They've been removed in my local version.

Anyhow you can just go to "VIET Assets/gfx/interface" and delete all the files in there, that should fix it.

Which face packs do VIET Immersion requires? I have Mongol Face Pack, African Portraits and Mediterranean Portraits, but I still get some European rulers to be black spaces.

No face packs are required, though having all of them are recommended. If you do not have ALL of the portrait DLCs, you should apply the portrait fix (located in the customization options folder; further instructions are there), which is for any users who, well, don't have all the portrait DLCs.

Earning piety to declare war is very hard as an orthodox ruler. Any tips ?

Nothing really short of the typical stuff you'd do in vanilla to get more piety (i.e. piety-increasing traits, hold a bunch of fairs/feasts/hunts and hope you get the piety events, etc.). My related suggestion though is that wars tend to be a bit rarer and more spaced out in VIET due to the increased costs, so plan carefully ahead as to what wars you can and can't declare.

Anyhow, if you're finding it too frustrating trying to get enough piety, I can point you to the parts of the code where you can edit the base piety costs for war.

(On the other hand, this does remind me that I need to throw in a little more for the Orthodox folks someday.)

Yeah I'm pretty sure Core and Immersion mess with the others

Personally I just use Events/Traits and CPR

The new version of PB is up, I dunno when I'll have VIET 1.3.6 up, but I'll try by tonight or tomorrow.

Where would I have to look if I wanted to tweak the holy war requirements?

That would be "[PB] VIET Immersion/common/cb_types". If you're using the vanilla version of VIET, open up "00_cb_types.txt". If you're using the PB version of VIET, open up "Vanilla CBs.txt". Note that Project Balance has removed the pagan holy war CB (or rather just merged it into the normal holy war CB, so to speak).

Search for the code for the normal holy war, which should begin with something like this (this is the vanilla version, the PB version will look a little different):

Code:
religious = {
	name = CB_NAME_RELIGIOUS
	war_name = WAR_NAME_RELIGIOUS
	sprite = 9
	truce_days = 3650
	is_permanent = yes
	is_holy_war = yes
	check_de_jure_tier = DUKE # this scans all dejure duchies for the counties which are held by or vassals(or below) of selected character. Only valid if is_permanent = yes

	can_use_gui = {
		ROOT = {
			OR = {
				trait = ambitious
				trait = diligent
				trait = greedy
				trait = brave
				trait = zealous
			}
			NOT = { trait = content }
			NOT = { trait = craven }
			NOT = { trait = slothful }
			NOT = { trait = imbecile }
			NOT = { trait = cynical }
			NOT = { has_character_modifier = holy_war_cooldown }

		}
	}
[...blah blah blah blah blah...]

And the pagan holy war code:
Code:
pagan_holy_war = {
	name = CB_NAME_RELIGIOUS
	war_name = WAR_NAME_RELIGIOUS
	sprite = 9
	truce_days = 1825
	is_permanent = yes
	is_holy_war = yes
	check_de_jure_tier = DUKE # this scans all dejure duchies for the counties which are held by or vassals(or below) of selected character. Only valid if is_permanent = yes

	can_use_gui = {
		ROOT = {
			piety = 100
		}
	}
[...blah blah blah blah blah...]

I'm assuming you're familiar enough with the code that most of the stuff here is self-explanatory to you, but feel free to ask questions anyways if something doesn't make sense.

Yes, Immersion and Core should be left unchecked. I have recently learned that Defines should also be left unchecked as well. Thus the only VIET modules you should be running with PB+SWMH are Assets, Events, and Traits. If you want the portrait stuff from Immersion, as Bebo1026 suggested, you can download my other mod, CPR.

Unfortunately the CK2+ compatible modules are Events and Traits (and technically Assets too, but that's required for all versions and combos of VIET), so none of the other modules will work. Granted, there's nothing stopping anyone from trying the other modules, but I doubt the experience would be pretty. :p

How much of the new Finnish stuff for the next update are you putting into the CK2+ modules then? All of it, I hope?

Bah.

How much of the new Finnish stuff for the next update are you putting into the CK2+ modules then? All of it, I hope?

Just the generic flavor events from the Events module (and well the music modules, those are compatible with everything). Most of the meaty VIET stuff will unfortunately never make it to CK2+ (if you're curious why you can read this post here (it's also in the FAQ, as I do get similar questions often enough), although the post is somewhat outdated (it was from before I had CK2+ compatible versions of the Events and Traits modules I think)).

So is this to date with the latest version of PB that was just release or do we have to wait?

While the current version is not updated to the newest PB, I don't foresee any serious problems if you run the two together (though don't take my word for it, it's a good idea to test first obviously). If you're real cautious and want to play it safe, the next VIET update, 1.3.6, should be coming out either tonight or tomorrow, so the wait will hopefully not be long.

What about the traits, decisions etc. described here:

Finnish Pagan Additions/Features
- Added Shaman trait
- Added decision available for Finnish and Tengri Pagans: “Ask Ancestors for Advice”
- Added decisions available for Finnish Pagans: “Hold Bear Hunt,” “Make Offerings to Haltija”
- Added Haltija system for Finnish Pagans - all provinces directly controlled by a Finnish Pagan will have modifiers reflecting the local Haltija who dwell there
- Added Karsikko mini event chain for when a Finnish Pagan dies

Finnish Pagan Miscellany
- Added new Finnish, Mordvin, Udmurt, Samoyed dynasties
- Finnish Pagan temples are called Sacred Groves
- Finnish Court Chaplains must have the Shaman trait
- Empire of Russia is called “Uralica” if ruled by a Finno-Ugric
- Kingdom of Russia is called “Erzya” if ruled by a Finno-Ugric
- Kingdom of Volga Bulgaria is called “Mordovia” if ruled by a Finno-Ugric
- Duchy of Bjarmia is called “Lamtü” if ruled by a Finno-Ugric

Surely at least the traits are also going to be in the CK2+ versions?

Also I read the post that you linked. A real pity that there won't be complete compatibility.

Also I read the post that you linked. A real pity that there won't be complete compatibility.

All of the relevant code for that is in the Immersion module unfortunately. Some of it might not be too hard to extract and merge into CK2+ technically, but it's not a task I'll be putting myself through. I didn't mention it in the post, but another reason why there probably won't be full CK2+ compatibility is simply it's too much time and effort to spend maintaining another version of VIET. Currently I have the vanilla and PB versions, and in the near future there will be a PB+SWMH compatible version, but otherwise that'd be it for full compatibility, just too much to handle. :(

That said anybody's welcome to make a fully CK2+ compatible version of VIET if they're up for it, I'm cool with that. (I know a few managed it in the past and one person I think even got a hack of CK2+, SWMH, and VIET out for a while)

Search for the code for the normal holy war, which should begin with something like this (this is the vanilla version, the PB version will look a little different):

I'm assuming you're familiar enough with the code that most of the stuff here is self-explanatory to you, but feel free to ask questions anyways if something doesn't make sense.

Thanks!

VIET 1.3.6 IS READY FOR DOWNLOAD! Click here to download or go to the first page's link.

Experience New Finnish Pagan features: BEARS

Don't forget to download the Finnish Pagan music pack as well!

The Finnish Pagan-themed update you’ve all been waiting for is up and ready! With over 70 new events (including flavor events and decision-related events), as well as several new decisions, traits, and more, not only are the Finnish Pagans getting more or less about the same as the West Africans got in 1.3.2, like the West Africans they’re also getting more flavor than all the non-Norse pagans got in TOG (no offense to PI). And, as a bonus, the Shaman stuff is also available to the Tengri Pagans. For those who haven’t been keeping up with the thread, you can read about how the new Finnish Pagans features work in the two “dev diaries” HERE and HERE (though do note some things have changed since then; in particular, the Bear Hunt event chain now has a small chance of firing events related to the orphan girl).

Also, VIET 1.3.5 was the first version of VIET to get 1500+ downloads. Yay VIET.

Key features of VIET 1.3.6:

  • Finnish Pagan mechanics and flavor - Bear hunts, Shamans, Haltija, and more! Over 70 new events for Finnish Pagans, including flavor events and decision-related events
  • 9 generic flavor events for Finnish Pagans!
  • Finnish music pack, to go along with the new Finnish Pagan stuff!
  • Bugfixes galore!
  • And more!

Like always, I’ve tested both the vanilla and PB versions of the mod (as well as the portrait fix versions) for a few years each. Still, there are possibly and probably minor issues and bugs I may have missed particularly since this is a rather big update - as always, don’t hesitate to report anything. The Republic of Iceland bug is still at large, and for some reason I’ve been unable to get the new Finnish background working, but other than that I haven’t noticed any major issues or bugs.

Until then, enjoy the update, and make sure to try out the Finnish Pagan stuff. GO HUNT BEARS.

1.3.6 Screenshots (click to enlarge)

Shamans: healers, advisors, travelers to the Spirit World for Finnish and Tengri Pagans. Comes in male and female flavors.

Shamans can travel to the Spirit World to ask for advice on your behalf.

Haltija, or Guardian Spirits, now occupy all Finnish Pagan provinces - make sure they’re kept happy, or else you might suffer some consequences.

Your parents might give you trouble even after they’re dead, especially if your Karsikko markings were inadequate.

Hunt bears.

Hunt bears AND seduce young virgins. Or, alternatively, there’s a small chance you’ll get an event chain where you’ll adopt the orphan girl as your own child afterwards. (Though technically you could still do both if you’re into that kind of thing.)

Upcoming Plans

Obviously, the 1.3.7 update will fix any bugs/issues coming from the big 1.3.6. The 1.3.6 update, however, will probably the last themed update before the August DLC and the patch that will probably come with it.

The next major themed update will probably be Republic-focused with a minor focus of Italy - whether that will come with the 1.4.0 update (i.e. the one with the August DLC and new vanilla patch) or a little afterwards will have to be seen. This will hopefully mean either a Ball decision (the patrician equivalent of a feast) or a Carnival decision for Italians and Republics (whichever one I can get working better). There will also hopefully be a few new Republics, dynamically-spawning Republics for the 867 start, as well as several dedicated event chains.

Other things I’m planning for the 1.4.0 include a proper integration of Additional Objectives 2.0, new plots (humiliate and spread gossip) along with an associated Restore Honor CB (i.e. frivolous CBs for no reason), a few new provinces in East Africa (though nothing too detailed, as VIET isn’t SWMH, just a few new provinces for the lulz and to spice up the situation in East Africa), and Sardinians. Of course, this is just what’s planned - I may not be able to actually add in all that in one update (it’s all stuff I plan to do eventually anyways).

I’ll be putting up a dev diary or something as soon as I get some of these down in solid form. I expect to have some fun with the Republic event chains - I’ve already entirely planned two including a ‘pizza’ one and one ripped off from an Oblivion questline (but there will be references to things other than TES too, I’m starting to plan one that will be inspired by an arc from this one unusually nice economics-themed anime I watched a while back (actually, I’ve already thrown a few references about that one here and there)).

After the Republic/Italy stuff I’ll probably go for either the Tengri, Baltic, or Slavic pagans depending on what I can whip up for them. Probably the Tengri Pagans, but we’ll see.

New plots? Might some of those be kidnapping-related? Because man, I could go for some kidnapping.

...wait, that sounded wrong.

Hmm. Might not be able to do it as soon as it'll require slightly more dedicated codework but I should probably remember to make a note for that too since that's been discussed a few times already..

Are you sure that 1.3.2 is the latest version of your mod? :p

(You linked the wrong url in the download link in your last post. :p)

Good catch. :cool:

Anyway, I'm planning to go the PB + VIET method and what I'd like to know is if I can add all the PB modules in the VIET folder package?
(I think I heard you can't use certain modules if you're using SWMH too but I won't be.)

Specifically are PB_VIET: Traits, Immersion, Defines, and Core all compatible with PB? I'm sure it's a dumb question but just wanting to be 100% sure. Thank you.

Yes, anything with PB is compatible with PB alone. If you add anything afterwards, then it's more complicated. Make sure to have Viet Assets, and I would recommend Viet Music.
