Also, been reading through the thread and saw the unique character portraits thing. What characters will be getting that treatment? Major recognizable characters? Major lore characters (so stuff including ike Anduin Lothar, Terenas Menethil, Calia, Brigitte Abbendis, Malygos, etc) or fan favourites (Arthas, obviously, Uther, Sally Whitemane herself, whatever the defias brotherhood's leader's name is, the stabby stabby undead crusader)?
My area;

The only character in vanilla with a truly "unique" portrait is Muhammed.

Think in Muhammed levels of special for unique portraits.

Characters like the Dragon Aspects, Illidan, Arthas, Thrall, Jaina, (well, most faction leaders now that i think about it).
Those who have unique facials that should not be replicated or commonly used (like Groms black jaw, illidans burning eyes behind the blindfold, jainas white streak in the hair, the skull paint of Ner'zhul etc ).

The things that would look odd in a random courtier.

People who should stand out enough to warrant it will get it.

Characters you mentioned like Anduin Lothar, Terenas Menethil, Calia and Brigitte Abbendis are all characters either without wow model or have one using the player model.
Which is then the correct way to represent them.
Matching their in-game appearance is of course a part of making those characters.

But they dont have any special features that need to be added for them to be recognizable.

DEV DIARY 7: High Elf Mechanics

Hello and welcome to yet another dev diary. Today I'll be covering the mechanics of the elves of Quel'Thalas.

Settled not too long after the Sundering by Highborne exiles, the High Elves displaced the forest trolls who inhabited the area of Quel'Thalas, soon after creating the Sunwell from a vial containing the waters of the Well of Eternity.

Quel'Thalas is organized into a monarchy not dissimilar from how its people operated before the Sundering. High (and Blood and Wretched) elves have cities as their primary holdings, but can also hold castles of their culture and temples of their religion.

Much like other races, the elves get their own buildings to complement or replace the default ones. Though lacking completely in heavy cavalry, they have a great number of mages, as well as access to both flying cavalry and constructs.

Quel'Thalas is usually inward-facing and hardly expansionistic, but that doesn't mean they can't defend themselves. In addition to their levies and retinues, the King of Quel'Thalas has access to a "Varangian Guard" in the form of the Sunfury, who can be mustered to defend the realm.

Being under constant threat by their Forest Troll neighbours, the elves do have access to a "Preemptive Strike" CB that allows you to attack and shatter any duke-tier or above forest troll realm.

Being an inwards-focused realm means that Quel'Thalas is mired in courtly politics. Various factions, in the form of societies, vie for domination in the realm. Some are very exclusive, such as the Magisters or the Blood Knights, while others are more aligned with broader goals like enforcing elven supremacy on the continent, or shunning contact with non-elves.

Finally, there is the heart of the realm: The Sunwell. Should it be captured by any non-elf, all independent elf rulers will get a CB to take it back. Furthermore, it can be corrupted by those who serve darker powers. In that case, the Sunwell will begin to cause very negative effects upon Quel'Thalas. Should an elf recapture the Corrupted Sunwell, they can destroy it to stop the corruption.

A corrupted or destroyed Sunwell can't, of course, sustain the magical needs of the population of Quel'Thalas. Once that happens, all elf characters will have to deal with their thirst for magic. Consume too much, and you become Wretched. Consume too little, and you'll go through an abstinence like no other. You can, of course, attempt to restore the Sunwell, but how far will you go to do it?

And so ends the elf dev diary, though there could be another as I am reworking some stuff and adding more. Next time will be about humans.

Nah. The Onslaught is independent from the Crusade in WoW

Also, I thought Terenas had a unique look? Like in Wow and everything else he appears in. Same with Anduin Lothar. In their art and everything they definitely have unique trademark looks.
Terenas got a model for Wrath cinematics and the LK boss fight.

Its very low poly (quite similar to the old human player models skeleton).
Anduin Lothar has only been represented with a player model.

A unique look is not a unique wow model.

Anduins "trademark look" is long hair and a beard.

Making a whole new portrait from scratch just for one character who could just as easily be represented by player character resources seems like a huge waste of time that could be used for other things.

Honestly forgot Lothar had any form of an appearance in WoW. I think of the art with his glorious beard and pauldrons.

Also (sorry I know I'm asking a lot of questions) But in any of the scenarios will there be a possibility of playing Aegwynn? She's so overlooked I notice projects like this manage to forget her.

btw if y'all ever want some extra lore junkies on hand I am always around for some wow lore

it would be fun to have Magna in game but her story line would be a lot earlier
Wouldn't she be guardian still in the first scenario?
First bookmark pre-dates human mages.
So yes.

As for being playable, that depends on if it can be done in a useful way.
Similar to demons not being playable since they are in-lore immortal, playing as the most ultimate super mage would also be silly in ck2.
Aegwynn losing in a battlefield duel versus a murloc would be just as boring as knowing that you can and will oneshot all duels.

I know this will likely result in a "soon™", but will the first alpha/beta be out soon?
I would be happy with a less then half finished beta of the eastern kingdoms to hold me over.
