Tianxia: Silk Road Expansion

"From Ireland to Cathay"

Every now and then, debates will rage on the Crusader Kings II Main Forum on whether there ought to be another Map Extension, but this time into the Far East under the monikers "Crusader Mings" or "Songs of Crusade". Arguments ranging from historical and geographical relevance to performance issues, the topic is something that will never die where in the future, historians will refer this as the "Infinite Paradoxian Civil War" started up by various factions amongst the Scholars of Paradox.

Tianxia, Chinese Romanisation of 天下 or "under heaven", aims to test the waters in regards to whether the Far East belongs in the world of Crusades and Medieval Intrigue of blinding/castrating your own children. A direct continuation of the Mod Project - All Under Heaven by .Me and a partial merger with Umbra Spherae by Camara, Tianxia aims to attempt to bring about the standard Paradox-style vanilla DLC in regards to this massively ridiculously absurd map expansion.

Open Alpha 7.0.0 (PPRR) - 12/09/2019
--------------------------------------
Update:
- Added a new decision for sufficiently powerful Jurchen rulers with a "Chinese enough" religion and a feudal government type to create a special pretender empire.
- Added a game rule governing whether the Jurchen get event troops when forming e_jurchen_china.
- Buddhist pretender emperors can now claim to also be the Samrat Chakravartin.
- Blocked Chinese/Japanese Imperial rulers and the lieges of Japanese Imperial rulers (i.e. the Shogun) from forming Russia, restoring the ERE (after the Fourth Crusade), restoring the RE, forming/restoring the Bulgarian Empire and forming the Slavic Union. None of these rulers should care about those things, and it could break things.
- Holy orders can no longer build castles in realms where the top liege is Chinese/Japanese Feudal or where any vassal is the Tenno, as neither China nor Japan nor a realm claiming the throne of China should look kindly on someone else squatting in their land.
- Updated the colourmaps and the trees, thanks to Harley1994.
- Incorporated the "Fake Mapmodes" mod by LordPeter, and added two new map modes; one related to the Grace system and China's interests, and one showing the capital holding type in a province (mostly for development purposes).
- Adjusted the holding setup (type and amount) and province religion in some areas.
- Adjusted the starting culture and religion in some areas.
- Added a new heightmap, courtesy of Harley1994.
- Added some new government frames and icons, courtesy of Keizer Harm.
- Added a few new Jewish Councillor events, with a localisation provided by RedBaronFlyer.
- Your Grace (and that of some other characters) will now show up when hovering over your portrait (or that of someone else that you can see the Grace of), courtesy of Keizer Harm.
- Tweaked Japanese government switching, and added a new Japanese Monastic Feudal government.
- Gave Japanese Imperial access to the ability to demand religious conversion.
- Added some new religion conversion decisions:
 - Jurchen Tengri -> Buddhist/Taoist
 - Taoist <-> Buddhist, if Chinese/Koreanic/Viet
 - Taoist <-> unreformed Shenist (if no reformation has happened), if Chinese
 - Buddhist <-> unreformed Shenist (if no reformation has happened), if Chinese
 - Taoist <-> HF-Reformed Shenist (if "Chinese enough"), if Chinese
 - Buddhist <-> HF-Reformed Shenist (if "Chinese enough"), if Chinese
 - Taoist <-> unreformed Muist (if no reformation has happened), if Koreanic
 - Buddhist <-> unreformed Muist (if no reformation has happened), if Koreanic
 - Taoist <-> HF-Reformed Muist (if "Chinese enough"), if Koreanic
 - Buddhist <-> HF-Reformed Muist (if "Chinese enough"), if Koreanic
 - Taoist <-> unreformed Thanist (if no reformation has happened), if Viet
 - Buddhist <-> unreformed Thanist (if no reformation has happened), if Viet
 - Taoist <-> HF-Reformed Thanist (if "Chinese enough"), if Viet
 - Buddhist <-> HF-Reformed Thanist (if "Chinese enough"), if Viet
- Added religion spread along the Silk Road, hopefully in a manner that shouldn't cause a Catholic Busan or Hindu Venice particularly often.
- Viet characters will now have their dynasty name first.
- Added a decision for the Tenno to recreate the Empire of Japan if it has no holder and he controls Japan (normal empire creation is impossible with Japanese Imperial).
- Optimized some decisions a bit further.
- Added a decision letting the Chinese Imperial, Confucian Bureaucracy, and Japanese Imperial governments usurp the de jure capital of their primary title, since they normally can't usurp titles.
- Added some new cultural buildings.

Patch:
- Tiered the Learning requirement for Chinese Imperial and Confucian Bureaucracy advisors, council members, and regents.
- Shinto and Japonic Buddhist rulers no longer care for the Seven-Branched Sword.
- Yamato characters now appreciate the Imperial Regalia of Japan.
- Buddhist characters no longer appreciate the Imperial Regalia of Japan.
- A bunch of Japanese artifacts that previously required you to be Shinto or Japanese Buddhist now require Shinto or Japonic Buddhist.
- Buddhist Chinese Imperial rulers can no longer order the creation of a holy order to fight the enemies of Buddhism, as they're already claiming that religion doesn't really matter.
- Moved some of the holy sites for the Taoist, Shenist, Muist, Thanist, Ryukyuan, Melanesian, Kaharingan, and Sanamahist religions.
- Gave Mandate of Heaven revolters access to the Chinese Reconquest and Chinese Subjugation CBs if they win their revolt.
- Lowered Indonesian conversion willingness to Islam early on.
- Successful Mandate of Heaven revolters will now usurp the relevant kingdom title if it is held by a vassal of the realm they're revolting against.
- Unreformed Muist, Shenist, Thanist, and Ryukyuan pagans no longer get upset when you increase tribal organization.
- Buddhists now approve of the Heirloom Seal of the Realm.
- Adjusted the Mandate of Heaven penalties China suffers when someone creates a pretender empire.

Bugfixes:
- Blocked various elective laws for the Tenno, as he really shouldn't be elected in any way, shape, or form.
- Sanamahi and Reformed Sanamahi rulers should now properly be permitted to join the Cult of Kali.
- It should now be possible to get past the planning stage when deciding to hold a Hanami at night. Have fun with the fireworks!
- Fixed missing DW society member rank localisation.
- Armies moving to Inaba no longer attempt to move off the map, and armies in Inaba are no longer outside the map.
- Fixed some minor event issues.
- Devil Worshippers in the Far East are now required to wear the same uniforms as the Satanists.
- The Emperor of China and various pretenders will no longer refuse to wage Chinese Reconquest wars because the wars themselves neither are the Emperor of China or have prestige.
- Wormhole travel between Wiang Jun and Jianmen is no longer possible.
- Armies moving to Huai'an -- or already located in Huai'an -- will no longer report the position of Huai'an as being off the coast of Beafada.
- The edge of vanilla's map should now be much less visible.
- Siege Engineers now cost the proper amount of Grace, regardless of your Tributary Tier.
- Added localisation to shinto_become_buddhist, its _desc, and the Buddhist counterpart.
- The new ruler of China will now only freely usurp the capital and your tributaries if he is Chinese Imperial.
- Fixed a couple of Silk Road path errors.
- Pretender Emperors of China and the people that support them or are under their sway should no longer feel that it is appropriate to name their artifacts after the dynasty that rules China itself.
- Chinese Imperial and Japanese Imperial rulers are now properly limited to holding just one empire title (holding more than one title can cause various issues).
- The Nile is no longer missing or broken south of Egypt.
- Fixed Kyiatong being rendered as Kyaitong in some places.
- Pretender Emperors of China no longer get to keep being pretenders when converting to an incompatible culture or religion; they need to choose between reconverting and losing pretender status.
- The AI should never value keeping Chinese Imperial over remaining the religious head of a religion.
- Fixed some incorrect starting holdings.
- You should no longer see whether a certain action is going to hurt someone's Mandate of Heaven rating.
- Added some missing localisation.
- You should no longer get spammed with events to convert the Hagia Sophia.

- Added over thirty new artifacts.
- Added event chains related to finding the new artifacts that aren't around from the start.

- Added the new Japanese Imperial government, based on vanilla's Chinese Imperial.
- Added the new Japanese Feudal government, based on vanilla's Feudal government and vanilla's Confucian Bureaucracy.

- Tweaked Muslim religion spread in Indonesia to take advantage of the secret religion system and to actually let the player make a decision about converting or not.
- Blocked Indian Subjugation for Chinese Imperial and Confucian Bureaucracy realms, except for Shinto-Buddhist subjugation within the same culture group.
- No matter how uppity they get, the vassals of Chinese and Japanese Imperial realms can no longer enforce Full Council Authority or Feudal Elective succession.

Projects

Main Projects
Sons of Heaven

The flagship project for Tianxia: Silk Road Expansion and a major expansion for Jade Dragon taking inspiration from Rajas of India, this project will expand the map even more further to the east of Far East Asia and enables you to play as a Folk Pagan or Chinese Daoic ruler. Can you bring about the supremacy of the Dao against your unenlightened enemies?

Khans of Mongolia

This expansion project for Horse Lords will focus on the Horde Warlords with particular focus on the terrifying Mongols and their thirst for conquest, expanding the map further into the Asian Steppes.

Mekong Rajas

This expansion project for Rajas of India will expand the map even more further to the south-east of South Far East Asia with syncretic Folk Pagan religions to play as. Can you bring the order of the Dharma or will the word of the Ummah prevail and conquer these lands?

Sunrise Invasion

An expansion project for Sunset Invasion, this project will further expand the fantasy scenario by opening the invasion from the Pacific coast by the Inca Civilization.

Genghis Khan

An expansion project for Khans of Mongolia and Horse Lords taking inspiration from Charlemagne, this project will offer a unique new story driven narrative about the rise of Temujin who later became known as Genghis Khan and the mighty Mongol Empire he built.

Developement

Progress
Initial Concept --- Open Alpha --- Closed Alpha --- Closed Beta --- Open Beta --- Gamma --- Delta --- Final Release

Initial Concept: the starting phase to establish a foundation

Open Alpha: also known as 'Milestone' or 'Pre-Alpha', has the bare minimum of functionality in order to get a gauge on how to progress
Closed Alpha: a transition phase where 'Alpha Testers' will test experimental features and mechanics with the possibility of expanding the contents further
Closed Beta: a transition phase where 'Beta Testers' will test current features where certain changes will be made if necessary
Open Beta: also known as 'Early Access' or 'Preview', has most of the features complete where catching any bugs that the internal teams have missed becomes the main priority
Gamma: also known as 'Release Candidate', a phase where internal testing will be done on whether it ought to be the final product
Delta: also known as 'Gone Gold', near final phase to determine whether it is fit be become the final product
Final Release: an end result of a long hard work with continued support

Once progress is underway, the stage will be bolded in the diagram above. Depending on the circumstances, it is entirely possible for the progress to actually regress backwards.

Versions

Though initially deciding against a decimal point system, I decided to use a hybrid system of my own which uses whole numbers within the decimal points with the following format:

Tianxia[Stage][Update#][Patch#][Hotfix#].zip
Stage will be the indication of the progress the mod is in from Alpha to Delta
Update indicates any new additions and/or compatibility with the base game
Patch indicates any major fixes such as CTD or anything game-breaking
Hotfix indicates any minor fixes such as balancing or localisation
zip... Do I really need to explain what that is?

Modifcations

Though I will try my best to keep this mod somewhat compatible, being a major overhaul, chances are whatever mod you are using will be incompatible with this. Also, please do not ask to make this compatible, it is already enough work as it is, if anything, the other modders should be making theirs compatible with this, not the other way around. Once progress is underway, I shall make a list of things that are compatible as well as the IDs and Namespace reservation.

ID Reservations (Pending)
Characters: 1.000.327.000 - 1.000.331.999, 1.000.449.000 - 1.000.449.999

Great! I will be folowing eagerly. If you do some sor of closed beta I can test if my computer permits it. :p

For DLC's I would recommend, RoI (for buddhists), TOG (for pagan faiths in the map expansion) and LoR (for imperial mechanics). CM might also be viable if one wants to use some sotrt of Chinese bureaucracy. The earlier scenario stuff may or may not be useful for a WtWSMS collaboration. You might be able to get some help from Umbra Spharae too. Are you planning to make it converter compatible?

What's the current state of things?
Yeah, did you get all of the old files from All Under Heaven or are you restarting on zero with only map and history and no flavour?

Are you planning to make it converter compatible?
Yes. I will be implementing most of my Converter Kings Universalis and possibly some of the CK2-EU4 Converter Improvement Project. However these will have to wait until I get most of the base shit done.

What's the current state of things?
I'm still trying to figure this out myself. For now, assume the worse.

Yeah, did you get all of the old files from All Under Heaven or are you restarting on zero with only map and history and no flavour?
I did, way before I decided to do this (I was fixing some stuff which could lead to legal implications). I'm going to try to salvage as much as possible (using everything would be ideal), but it depends on the functionality and whether I like it or not.
