And is anything really given on how an Emperor is chosen in the Imperium? Because we have Orlais and the Dwarven Kingdoms where they are elected via tantistry or simply elected due to merit.

And the Magisterium seems to be the equivalent of the Roman Senate except bigger and even more influential. But how their leader is chosen...like maybe election of Archon?

cuz we kinda have 3 trait distinctions for the Imperium. Altus. Laetan. and Soporati. Those who descended from Prophets of the Old Gods, those who are still Magisters but not Alti, and then there's everyone else.

"The role of Archon is generally an inherited one and oftentimes these men are relatives or perhaps the apprentices of the previous Archon. In the event that an Archon passes without an appointed heir, the Magisterium (senate) steps in and names the next ruler provided he is not already part of the Magisterium or a member of the Imperial Chantry."

That is what I gather from lore. So really any kind of hereditary succession would work. Since I view them to be akin to the Roman/Byzantine Empire of our world a type of Agnatic primogeniture may work best. But an elective monarchy may do a better job showing various power struggles.

Just my two cents.

Dorian kinda says that while technically the Archon rules the Imperium, the Magisterium particularly rules the Imperium. But because the Archon can appoint magisters, everyone vies for the Archon's favor.

very true, he does say that. Dorian is great because he really tells us more about the Imperium.

He would just install loyal people into the Magisterium allowing him to do whatever he wants himself or by proxy of his loyal magisters. So I feel the Archon is still the real power regardless.

But does that mean that the Imperium would have a College of Cardinals like Mechanic, where while "typically" certain trait-characters (Noble houses, either Altus or Laetan) are accepted into the Magisterium - the Archon can appoint Magisters in the Magisterium and there's a relationship between Magisterium and Archon.

If Archon centralizes the government, the Magisterium begins to despise the Archon and tries to either endorse rebellion or it tries to enact edicts to prevent it. If the Archon actually is beaten than the Magisterium replaces him with the best-heir or retracts any powers given.

Sorta like Byzzie and HRE formed into one unholy monster.

I don't know a ton about the college of cardinals, I usually play pagan or orthodox. But I feel like it could work. However the piety aspect of it is not as good of an indicator as say the prestige from a republic style succession.

I know the Game of thrones mod has a "Triachs system" In which the head triach rules the county but there are two "junior" triachs that get elected on a yearly bases that do not rule but have some powers. They can vote to veto wars of aggression and choose council appointments. The people who are eligible to be a triach are divided into two political parties. If we could make it 3 parties, one to represent Archon appointed, one to represent imperial chantry, and one to show circle mage, we could perhaps use this system on top of a hereditary kind of succession. We could of course change things assuming we could get permission.

The lore and maps that come out of DA3 will make it so much easier to build the mod for this, its just some people are going to have to focus squarely on keeping general lore accuracy. I would think its plausible to for the initial working versions of this mod to have Ferelden, Orlais, Nevarra and the Free Marches as functional parts. At least, parts that we know how they really work.

Also worth mentioning is that myself and no doubt others do not have the CM DLC. I hope this mod will not require it. I will eventually get the DLC but right now I don't have it.

Re: Tevinter. I will start having some kind of elective goverment with heir designation and born in the purple mixed in, somehow. But for the moment I have tried nothing on that. Keep bringing new info!

Re:city elves. Alienages of mayor cities will be city baronies, this unplayable, sadly. But you always can ruler-design a city elf, if so you wish.

Re: Maps. I don't have Inquisition at the moment. If anyone can screenshot those new maos that would be helpfull. The southern nations will natural y have more fleshed out contents, but all nations on the map will be there.

Re: DLCs. No DLC is required - only The Republic for certain states. Norse portraits are being used for dwarves, andmodified celtic and turkidh faces for elves and qunari, but they are not mandatory. (other faces unit packs and flavour events from mayor DLCs will ala be used, but again those are not mandatory)

Something like that. Can't the mechanic (purple_born_heirs) be used in other titles? The wiki seemed to imply so. The idea is use the trait to discriminate eligible candidates and use an elective succession law. I need to experiment with it there days

Where is the wiki implying that? -> "Given to children born to a Byzantine Emperor during their reign."

@JonStryker: the wiki page on title modding lists the purple_heirs flag as a universally usable flag (at lieast, it lists it as a title flag and mentions no limitations). If it is indeed nonfunctional in titles other than e_byzantium, then I probably will use that title and relocalise it appropriately. Testing will say.

purple_born_heirs ... interesting. I've not seen that before. I really thought someone mentioned that exclusively e_byzantion and e_roman_empire can use that. But I am probably mistaken.

Since I was talking about the Tevinter earlier I do have a comment on the map (which I do really like).

Their capital Minrathous, is actually on an island not far from the shore. It is only connected by a single destructible bridge. So i don't know what people think about the idea of having a small island be off the coast. Instead of having the capital be on the mainland. Their capital would end up being like vanilla Venice but without the need to take ships to get there.

Lastly despite be besieged in multiple wars it has never fallen. Due to the bridge giving a single access point to the city as well as high walls and three huge Golems, whig are the only known Golems used on the surface for defense. A wonderful gift from their Dwarf allies. Would a defensive bonus be in order for such a city? By either a modifier or special building?
