Philippe de France sounds more historical than Gargamel Capet.

Blame Paradox for merging the name of the dynasty with the character names (there's a wishlist somewhere, why don't people go there and ask for dynastic/character names split ?). Academic names are just that, they are not last names and don't fit characters : you can't call an individual in the game "Philippe Capetians" it sounds ridiculous just like "Guillem Bosonid" or "Alfonso Jimena".

Now Capet specifically is semi offensive to french people who know history because (and it's the last I repeat it before I quote Le Goff on that) its only other use in history besides being the individual title/nickname of Hugues Capet was to ridicule the king at the french revolution (the story of the widow Capet certainly you read that in your history book about the capetians ?). Once again Capetians/Capétiens is fine, it's just gibberish when used as a last name and imply ever other french dynasty should be renamed to the academic adjective, or all capetian cadet branches to Capétiens-Bourgogne, Capétiens-Valois, Capétiens-Vermandois and the like. Well I suppose you don't find anything wrong with "Philippe Capétiens-Bourgogne" as a character name anyway.

I'm a bit tired of arguing now, I'd rather work on the mod than spending time answering the same question again and again. Maybe you'll launch the next version of the mod and have all the families named Guillelmides, Robertiens, Capétiens, Ramnulfides and the like and I'll hear the opposite argument from the same people for a change.

Don't mind the complainers Solo, I was going to respond to that post as well, since he linked your explanation right before asking the same question you had just answered but it was 4am (my time) and didn't want to bother. I say stick with it and ignore the questions. I've found that overhaul mods get tons of pages of questions of this and that and it's hard to filter out all the 'noise' when the pages of responses add up. Keep up the great work :)

I am unable to create the duchy of ulster playing as scottland (alba)? I own 50% of the de jure counties, not sure why it won't let me create it. It doesn't show any culture specifics, not to mention I'm scot-gael anyways so I don't see why I wouldn't be able to take control of ulster considering that's where many of my ancestors come from.

The tooltip lies. You need 65% of the de jure counties.

So calling them of France and of Nevarra more historical how? Looks even dafter if the de France House no longer sit on the French Thrown.

If you prefer to call them of Nation then do so, but don't use the fact it'd more historical when the fact if you look up any history book of the Kings of the Christian Kingdoms of Spain they will all say the House of Jiménez.

Oh ho ho, you're so wrong. Believe me when I say that in almost no history books I've seen the House of Sancho the Greater being referred to as "the House of Jiménez". In Spanish, it would make no sense. "La Casa de Jiménez" it's an absurdity of a name. Dinastía Jimena? Sure, along with a lot of other names, but it's just academic convenience. "House of Navarra" is a working compromise. Solo knows what he's doing, I can attest he knows his stuff. Leave him be.

Truth is, they were the House of Castile in Castile and the House of León in León. Same as how the House of Barcelona became the House of Aragon once crowned Kings of Aragon, and how the House of Trastámara also became the House of Castile in Castile and of Aragon in Aragon, when they took over the respective thrones.

I am totally behind Solo on this.

I just started playing this mod after messing around with SWMH and following the work of the Patrum Scuta team, and I'm really, really impressed. It's not a whole 'nother game, but enough to make it interesting, especially while waiting for the new functionality and timeframe of TOG. Not loving the crashes, but since that's Paradox's fault and not the mod teams' I'm not worried too much. Great job to everyone who's pitched in. I do have a question, though: Are the integrated mods in the OP up-to-date? We know that the latest versions of SWMH--which BTW has the W and M switched in the OP--Lupus Agnum, and the Duel Engine are kept up to date (and I assume Sniggle's Bookmarks is too, considering it was only started very recently), but what about these:

  • patrum scuta (version 0.3) - Hasn't this been replaced by Solo_Adhémar's (absolutely gorgeous) new interface?
  • family relations (latest version) - Seems out-of-date, but if it still works, that's cool.
  • syren's nicknames mod (version 3.3) - Latest version is 3.7.
  • new borders plus - The mod author has a new pack called NBRT+ (New Borders, Rivers, and Trees), is TPATT incorporating that, or just NB+, or neither?
  • novgorod republic (latest version) - I assume this has been included, just can't tell.
  • ck2 heraldry (version 2.0) - Is this mod still used? It hasn't been updated in a while.
  • an offer you can't refuse (version 2.0) - Hasn't been updated in a year, is it still included?
Also, any plans on incorporating Arko's Dynasties pack (recently updated) or is there just too much overlap with the current internal dynastic/heraldic mods?

I don't think the Arko pack is necessary, since Solo's work includes hundreds and hundreds of dynasty arms. Look around, you'll see that most of the coded dynasties have already their own arms.

So I am playing as Duke Guilheim of Aquitaine, trying to create the kingdom of Aquitaine, but it states I need to have culture of Ariptan. Problem is most of the duchy is Occitarian? Any Help on how to get this done? Other than going into the save file.
The requirement for forming the kingdom is set as Arpitan culture. You could change it in the landed_titles.txt file, if you wanted. There is a line saying allow = culture = francoprovencal and the bottom of the k_aquitane string.

I is a bit strange a requirement for an Aquitane kingdom, though.

Are Muslims broken in this mod? Christians are playable but for Muslims I can't raise vassal levies or collect taxes form mayors.
Weird i do not seem to have those problems, but on the other hand my wives are on a killing spree, i mean for god sake it's my first ruler almost 20 years have passed and i only have a bastard and two legitimate sons alive out of a total of about 10 sons who were all assasinated by wives before they even reached the age of 6. WTF? and i had to imprison or kill 6 wives for trying to assasinate one of my sons and getting caught...

Again to the titular archbishops in England disappearing from Vassal bishops list problem:

after 1st inheritance the succession law changes from investiture to open elective.
I changed in the save file following:

Code:
succession=open_elective
law="succ_open_elective"
to
Code:
succession=catholic_bishopric
law="succ_catholic_bishopric"
for the current Archbishop of York, and he appeared in the list and anything is ok now.
So for anyone playing in England, this is working "fix"

My problem is that I can't raise my vassal's levies. It says that I have -100% levies do to laws. I changed all my laws but I still got the same message.

love this mod so far... thanks for the hard work

i started as count of dublin and wanted the ability to form an empire at some point(without losing my irish holdings as primary)...

would this work, or did i mess something up
Code:
e_albion = { #United Kingdom
	color={ 106 70 126 }
	color2={ 20 100 255 }

	capital = 32 # Middlesex

                    saxon = "Breten"
					scottish = "Bhreatainn"
					welsh = "Prydain"
                norman = "Bretagne"
                english = "Britain"
                irish = "Bhreatain"

	short_name = yes
    name_tier = king

	allow = {
		OR = {
			culture = saxon
			culture = scottish
			culture = welsh
			culture = norman
			culture = english
			culture = irish
		}
		religion_group = christian
		OR = {
			AND = {
				has_landed_title = k_england
				has_landed_title = k_wales
			}
			AND = {
				has_landed_title = k_scotland
				has_landed_title = k_wales
			}
			AND = {
				has_landed_title = k_england
				has_landed_title = k_scotland
			}
			AND = {
				has_landed_title = k_ireland
				has_landed_title = k_wales
			}
			AND = {
				has_landed_title = k_england
				has_landed_title = k_ireland
			}
			AND = {
				has_landed_title = k_ireland
				has_landed_title = k_scotland
			}
		}
	}
}

edit: and what do these two lines do:
short_name = yes
name_tier = king
i mean, the tier thing makes me think it will be a kingdom, not an empire, and im not sure what the short name does...

thanks in advance for any response

short name makes the kingdom name be exactly what you put in the localisation file. Normally, England gets complemented by "Kingdom of". But in the case of the Holy Roman Empire, it doesn't say "Kaiser of the Empire of Holy Roman Empire", it says "Kaiser of Holy Roman Empire".

I'm having some problems with the landed_titles file. I'd like to ask why does it mess up the heraldry if I change even one line in that file. I'm very annoyed with all the "Englaland" and "Anglietèrre", so I want to take it away. Or I want to add more Welsh exonyms. But whenever I add one line following the pattern of other paragraphs, bam! Heraldry gets messed up. I got Bar in England, etc.

Please note that it worked like a charm before I changed that single line (concretely, it's the pack of English exonyms, but any other change also messes it up, as if the file could not be altered). And even when I delete the altered landed_filed.txt and replace it with the backup file, it still doesn't work.

I'd like some clarification of the matter because every time I decide to check if the source of the problem is this or that, I have to reinstall the whole mod, and add again my own modifications (which are only flags, names in the culture files and localisation updates, none of this has never messed anything up).

Thanks for the time.
