Idib, would it be possible to add a requirement for creating a kingdom for papal approval? Or just good relations with ol' Popey-face? Because if the pope hates you, you would need an anti-pope to 'crown' you.

I'm quite sure that's impossible in the way to have it as a requirement for kingdom creation. Anyhow, there might be other ways to make such things happen, but I'm afraid of how the AI might handle such things. I could set a malus for non-crowned kings, with the vassals pressing the king to get officially crowned by a pope or antipope, or I could see if there is an on_action event for kingdom creation. I'll look into it and let you guys know if I find a good solution.

You can put an allow condition on any title. So in theory, you could an allow condition for every landed and titular Kingdom title, such that if the character is Catholic, they'd need to have positive relations with the pope to form the title. I doubt the AI would understand it properly, however.

That's what I was talking about. I mean putting a positive relations with the pope thingie would just drive the AI to get stuck into not creating any kingdoms if they don't have the prerequisites, not looking to improve their relationship with the pope. Also it would be quite an hassle to code without using if clauses, which I'm not sure are compatible with the landed titles. That's why I'm saying that an on_action event would work much better, but unfortunately there isn't such trigger as on_title_creation or anything like that. That's where it gets tricky. But again, impossible is nothing, there might be alternative ways to code the whole process, I just have to think of them yet.

Am I right in thinking there has been an update or fix but no change in version number so I should DL and reinstall right?

Uhmm, were you here when Idib released 1.06 and went off to visit his brother and released 2 updates before his flight? And then while he was at his brother's house, was still updating and released 2 major updates right after he came back...

Idib is a machine and I was jesting :p I'm sure he'll comment when he has the time. Oh and did I mention that he was working on portraits and the new version while on vacation? LOL

I was here then and watched it all happen but I for one cannot subscribe to the whole "Idib is a machine" theory. In fact, I suspect that behind Idib is actually a team of indentured coding servants who have to work day and night for their master. However, when they go on vacation a.k.a. a visit to the company retreat, then there's noone at the coding cave to create new stuff, hence my call for patience. :p

The only thing I can think of is to limit the system to certain titles that the Pope is more likely to have a say over (i.e. the Sicilies or the KoJ, not Norway or Georgia). Then make those titles catholic-only (perhaps with alternate non-catholic versions) and add an allow condition requiring a modifier papal_approval. Then you'd have a maintenance event that uses variables to count the number of provinces inside the de jure kingdom and compares that number to the number owned. For example, every de jure province would add 1 to the global variable koj_de_jure_size, every owned/vassal province a character owns inside the KoJ would add 1 to his koj_owned_size variable. If a character's koj_owned_size variable reaches whatever number is 50% of the de jure kingdom, it would unlock a decision to seek papal blessing, starting an event chain that would eventually add the papal_approval modifier.

That would be a ton of code, since you'd need a to test each province in the de jure realm every time the maintenance event fires and compare every possible value of de_jure_size to owned_size (well, not every possible value, but a lot in case de jure assimilation shrunk or expanded the kingdom).

A bit of a grammatical typo in the description there. Phrasing it like '...which was destroyed...' would be better, IMHO.

Lol, I just have lots of free time and too much love for modding :D

Honestly, I think the piety requirement is enough for forming Kingdoms, but you could try for this. I wouldn't require both, the money AND piety AND popal consent, but just money and papal consent if you get this working. For Catholics, anyways, unless it mattered that much for Orthodox as well.

You're right, my grammar teacher would be majorly pissed if she saw that..

Haha, no worries, I'm not as judgemental. No red marks on your paper or anything. :p

It would be cool, but I don't see it as critical. If it's a major PitA, then I'd say leave it as is. The piety requirement is much more stringent in TPATT anyway. Or make it a special requirement for the Sicilies. That was the kingdom the Pope's were most worried about anyway.

If you have steam it might be a problem with that, just run the game from the steam thingie, let it synchronize when you hit play from steam, and then you can enjoy them. If you don't get what I mean PM me. If you don't have steam I'm not sure, but you can PM me anyways and we can try to sort it out :)

Not really bothered about it myself. I'd love a more accessible way of becoming the Pope though, I don't know how viable it is but I think it'd be interesting. Perhaps a plot or something? :D

I could do that easily, but would you guys enjoy a game that ends as soon as your character dies?

Regarding allowing players to play as pope: I'd be more in favor in revamping the system of how a Pope is elected (much like how Kailvin has done with Basilica Tribuo). Playing as the pope sounds like an interesting proposition until players see how many notices they receive from patrons wishing for indulgences and excommunication :p

Regarding Pope favor in creation of kingdoms: I think the piety requirement is already enough for forming kingdoms as is since it isn't as easy to gain as prestige or in most cases, money. If you want to add something, add a relatively small money addition requirement and I think it would be ok.

Wouldn't you automatically continue as the most senior member of your dynasty? So perhaps make an event where you can become Pope, but you give all the rest of your lands to an heir of your dynasty. That way when you die you'll still be able to continue on where you left off (plus or minus some decades of AI misrule).
