Why did you all delete 3/4ths of India from this map?

Why was 1/3rd of the Steppes removed?

Correction: it was never added in the first place.

Removed as compared to current Vanilla.

Removing those areas will make a converted save really messy.

Well, the point is that, if you trace the course of events chronologically, it would be more correct to say that "Paradox decided to add India and more areas of the steppes way after the SWMH team decided how far to the east they would cover." ;) Keep in mind also that SWMH still has way more provinces than vanilla. SWMH already runs slower than vanilla as is, imagine how the game will act if SWMH had even more provinces.

And I don't entirely agree with your statement on save data conversion: the areas that exist in vanilla but not in SWMH will be no less/more messy than areas that don't exist in vanilla itself. You'll still end up with Ming China, Kingdom of Ava, Aztects, etc. regardless. I would say that such setup is equally "messy," at the end of the day.

Besides, SWMH-EU4 converter is still in development, so it's not likely you can even convert an SWMH game to EU4. :p

Welcome to the "Some What More Historic 2.0" mod( the HIP version is uptodate with latest ck2 patch) this thread's Spanish sisterthread can be found here.

What's it all about?

SWMH is first and foremost a comprehensive mapoverhaul, we have gone to great lengths to bring alive the medival world as contemporary accuartely as possible. Secondly it includes substantial work on history and cultural related features. All this work has been conducted with a philosophy of keeping as close to the core features as possible in order to maximize compability with other mods.

Map Features:
* Adds an in depth overhaul of the map, in the process adding more than 500 provinces, 7000 medival barronies and reworking entites down to the last barrony.

* New Projection featureing:
Handdrawn coastlines for: Northern Europe(everything north of Bilbao, excluding Iceland), atlantic coast of Morocco, northern half of the Mediterranean(Coastline from Provence to Alexandria and all mediterranean islands), Adriatic, Black sea, Red sea, Persian Gulf, Ran of Kutch etc(basically everything than the southwestern part of the Mediterranean, Iberian peninsula and Iceland).
A massive river and lake overhaul.
Redrawn mountains, terrain, topology(3d effect) overhaul
All new normal height map(adds the 3d shadows)

Projection comparison:

Comparison(green and blue is SWMH, white and black is vanilla), purple is inside the SWMH projection and outside the vanilla one, while the red section is the reverse.

Download and installation
SWMH is included in the main HIP download, using that is recomended

Installation(non HIP) and independed download link(not currently provided)

Download the file, then unzip into the mod directory, start CK2 and select the "some what more historic" mod in the launcher

Startup of CK2 will be a bit longer(around a minute) the first time you use the mod(due to the map and flag changes), but this will not be an issue after the first use.

If running on Macs you will need to do this small workaround in order to get mods to work.

Speak English Damit! (included in HIP)
Want the map, but not keen on all those strange titles? then try out Ioannes's brand new incarnation of the Anglicised naming sub mod. Its already included in the download of HIP and if activated through the installer if using HIP or selected in the launcher if running independently, it will reverts many of the localisations to something more familiar.

There is two different ways to enjoy this mod:

1. to run it alone without other mods(why would one want to do that?)

2. to use the build a bear principle and run thoes mods you want alongside it(Yay!)

As you might expect we recommend a full HIP configuration(or as full as you like ;) ). However if EMF is not your fancy you got another tasty alternative in the form of LT3 which is fully compatible with SWMH and most other HIP modules.

The modding team:

Active(main centers of interest):

Ruwaard - HRE

theKing1988 - ERE, Caucasus and Mideast

Woody Man - British Isles and France

Aasmul - Scandinavia, Baltics, Eastern Europe, Russia and Italy

Retired/on hiatus:

Axl Madness. Our Castilian specialist he have been the driving force behind the Iberian, Scottish and Welsh overhauls.

Bertuccio. Our Leonese specialist he have been deeply involved with the Iberian overhaul and its dynamic names, and been the driving force behind the overhaul of Ireland.

Terms of usage in other mods
Please do not include any part of SWMH in your (public)mod unless you have asked for, and gotten, clear permission.
Only the SWMH team can give permision to public distrubution of SWMH in itself or as included whole or partially in other mods
If you would like too use the whole of SWMH or a by us developed component of the mod, then please PM one of the team members and we will discuss your request.

In the request please describe what parts you are interested in, and include a link to your mod.

Note that we favor a modular approach, so if you are interested in the whole of SWMH and your mod can run alongside SWMH, then we prefer to keep them independent of eachother. We try to keep SWMH as cleanly focused on the map/history side of things as possible, inorder to insure compability with as many mods as possible(and compabilty patching can often sort things out, in the situation where the mods are'nt compatible straight out of the box.)
We are unlikely to give permission for the integration of the whole or majority of SWMH content for other overhauls with similar aimed scope( ei strictly vanilla focused map and history overhaul) or a scope similar to HIP(ei vanilla focused total overhaul)

Would it be possible to release an HIP version of only the Culture portions of this mod?

I would like to play with India and the Steppes, but I would love everything other than the Map from this mod!

(The map is great, BTW, just no India or Steppes).

The Cultures are tailored specifically to the map that we have, rather than the Vanilla map, so to be blunt with you, none of us has any desire to deal with the headache that would be translating the SWMH cultural setup onto the Vanilla map.

But if our users want to create such a thing for personal use they are of course more than welcome to do so, and if they want to release it as a submod all they need to do is approach one of us to get permission, which they are likely to get.

While playing as the Byzantine emperor I just conquered the duchy of Antioch when I get the option to create the Despotate of dyn_rel_1000455955 (titular title). When clicking on it the map would center around Dubrovnik. The flag also match the one for the city. The thing is, there is already a Despot of Ragusa. Does anybody know what should be this title?
Another issue I notice is that probably there are no dynasties names for Udi and Cumbri cultures. I got a number of them with the dynasty name Smith. The Udi have a quite large state so it's a bit annoying seeing half of them called Smith.

I managed to track some Udi names (Caucasian Albanian). The names are of the rulers (or ruler's wife / mother )from around 500-800 so a bit to early. I was able to find online the full text of The history of Caucasian Albanians written in the 10th century in both Russian and English translations (both very bad formatting). Except the first two, all the other dynasties names are from there, what I could see at a quick glance. In most of the cases the family was called 'of X' so I replaced the of with 've'. The first two names are of priests/historians (the first wrote the book) which are a bit controversial. Apparently they described themselves as Albanians and Armenians (they wrote only in Armenian). Armenians call them only Armenians, Azerbaijanis call them only Albanians.

This is not something I know much about, so pardon my ignorance, but I thought "douxt" (in the name "Goridouxt") was a general Iranic root for "daughter", much like the "dukht" in "Houridukht." Again, I apologise if this is a stupid question, but are you sure "Goridouxt" is a male name?

Hallo there!

Posting this here for the SWMH mod team.

Do you folks mind if I go ahead and use your awesome work you guys put in with the map, titles, history, etc to make a 769 Charlemagne Bookmark sub-mod for HIP?

I really wanna have a ton of fun with the SWMH HIP version but in Charlie's time :p.

I've noticed that some duchies in Italy (e.g. Verona, Istria, etc.) are localised as Markgrafschaft even when held by independent Italians. Would it be possible to just make one "MARCH/MARGRAVIATE" localisation and then have cultural localisations for that? (e.g. MARGRAVIATE_italian etc)

Of course we don't mind. We've often and loudly stated that we are very willing to give permission to our users to release such a submod.

Do you have anyone else lined up to help you with the work or are you planning on doing it all yourself? You should perhaps resurrect our old 769 submod thread to see if some of the guys who showed interest in it back then are still willing to help.

Another question, just so we are aware of your plans. Do you just intend to do a simple Vanilla setup? Import title histories, character histories and province histories and fill in the holes where we add new provinces?

Hey there King, thank you for the reply!

You guys are awesome by the way and Aasmul made me his biggest fan when after we talked he drew Wallachia and Moldavia properly!! (Only mod to do so >.>...)

I've did history for Elder Kings, but nothing fancy or spectacular. Mostly functional and that's about it. As for the submod, yes I am planning to do it all myself honestly. I won't say no to anyone who wants to help, but neither do I expect folks to volunteer anytime soon.

So in lines with that, I will do it in a few steps.

1.The first step will be to import the title, character and province histories from Vanilla. Then assign all your new provinces to their immediate highest titled ruler. It will result in Counts, Dukes and Kings with drastically higher demesnes.
2.The second step would be to fill in those extra titles with historic characters that I can find doing a quick google or wiki search.
3.The third step would be to fill in what titles remain with made-up characters for the sake of spit and duct tape balance.

I am not a big fan of spending a great amount of time in the history files, since as a fresh parent I lack the time and energy to do it. So the history will be functional and devoid of fluff and decorations. I won't add extra non-landed or dead family members and I will certainly not create a ton of characters to connect the Charlemagne Bookmark to the Vikings Bookmark.

All I care is making 769 playable and available. After that if folks want more fluff added they will be of course welcomed to do so themselves or provide me the code so I can just add it to the submod.

Overall I don't want to bite more than I can chew, so I prefer to just aim towards the simplest objective first :p.

Tragically, this is not moddable. We are stuck with compromises.
