A mod on star wars... man you are my hero

There will be lightsaber duels ?

Lore-wise prequel and original trilogy lightsabers came later on, near the jedi-dark jedi schism that was followed by the rise of the sith Empire on Korriban.
At 20000 bby we shouldn't even be able of seeing a true Jedi order, as they weren't even born, the republic rose from the races revolted against the infinite empire of the rakatas and many hyperspace routes weren't even known.

edit: nvm misread the original post, it's set well after infinite empire collapse

I hope this uses traditional Star Wars Expanded Universe canon and not that new Disney stuff.

Good question actually, I also hope you will use the old EU as it is MUCH more fleshed out then TFA at the moment

The OP said that the mod will be starting around the time of the New Sith Wars, when the Republic's authority was fractured and the Sith became a rising force on the galactic stage again. Since the Sith tend to naturally balkanize themselves, it should mean there'll be plenty of polities to work with in the game.

Should've read that more carefully, I only caught the bit about the dating method. The New Sith Wars is a weird place to start. It's an obscure era, it cuts out the KotOR/TOR eras, and it's immediately before a 2000-year long gap in the timeline during which any bookmarks would have to be invented or just absent, making it difficult to play a game that passes through multiple bookmarks.

The New Sith Wars is a superb choice actually, as laid out by Galle. Even with these long gaps between events, there's nothing in either engine or lore to block other earlier/later bookmarks in the mod. So, after sometime ironing out most bugs and creating basic content for this single bookmark, i bet expansion will follow soon.

The New Sith Wars are very feudal and, in fact, appear to be mostly or completely the product of people who thought that the term "Jedi knight" should be almost completely literal. But if OP is planning to adapt other eras at all, then the mod needs to be built to handle those other eras anyway or else he'll have to replace chunks of it, and if OP isn't planning on adding other eras than he's limited his mod to an era that almost no one cares about and many people haven't even heard of. There are more measures of a setting's suitability than ease of adapatation.

Mandalorians should be culture only, not race. Concerning religion as a "faction", just... why? There are religions in SW and there are different governments, as well as cultures. For example, there is the Sith Empire, with Sith religion and Sith culture (And some Sith species depending on the timeline), while the Republic holds many religions and cultures, which also makes it frail. I am just saying, race, religion, culture, etc shouldn't be linked if you ask me. A twi'lek born in Tatooine would have the cultural background of that planet, specially if his family does not keep strong bonds with it's original culture.
That way Mandalorians and Sith can actually "conquer" planets and turn people into their culture, as they should.

The New Sith Wars do actually have a lot of significance to the Star Wars people care about. This was the period that Darth Bane emerged from, after all.

That said, I'm pretty sure godream plans on working on this project for a long while. He was wondering what period to start with, and I suggested the New Sith Wars because it seemed like the most suitable starting point.

Also, 2000 years is incorrect. The New Sith Wars predate the movies by only a thousand years, and in fact are the wars against the Sith that the Jedi in the prequels allude to.

How many CK2 players know who Darth Bane is? How many of them can name a single fact about him other than that he invented the Rule of Two? How many can name even one other significant figure of the New Sith Wars? The New Sith Wars border on completely unknown to people who aren't extremely into Star Wars.

Also, 2000 years is incorrect. The New Sith Wars predate the movies by only a thousand years, and in fact are the wars against the Sith that the Jedi in the prequels allude to.

The New Sith Wars started 2000 BBY and ended 1000 BBY (ish). The New Sith Wars themselves are mostly undescribed.

Well, both the Elder Scrolls and Warhammer TCs are also set in eras unfamiliar to most players with superficial knowledge of those universes. That doesn't make them any less good or successful.

In fact, that this era is mostly undescribed should be a strength for the mod devs, since it will probably allow them for more creativity in order to fill the blank spaces.

I certainly welcome it more being based on the New Sith Wars, rather than the OT Era ( Which would've been iconic, but honestly, a bit boring, and cumbersome to represent ) or *shudders* the Prequels Era.

That's the point. Their lack of description allows the modders to fill in the gaps and be creative. Setting it in the timeframe of the movies limits players to a handful of viable characters and playthroughs.

The New Sith Wars are "mostly undescribed"? Even better! The mod makers will have plenty of time to forge new mechanics and sprites without worrying about Jar Jar Binks's correct traits. First things first.
