After eight months in development, the Paradoxical Modding Group is proud to announce the release of Into The Mirror, Darkly (ITMD) this coming weekend – the newest update to Star Trek: New Horizons. The name – Into The Mirror, Darkly – is inspired by the many Mirror Universe episodes from Star Trek. It represents the strong focus this update has on the Mirror Universe. As part of the update, the entire economy has once again been overhauled. This refers to all the moving your parts you would expect, in addition to a massive overhaul in the District and Habitability Systems. With this patch also comes our latest UI sub-mod, created by CutterSlade, a Universal adaptation of the Federation UI suitable for whatever species you choose to play.
New Horizons now includes over 50 new districts, each providing unique bonuses, boosted by technology earned throughout the course of the game. Together with up to 6 Districts per planet, you will be able to build vast empires with planets specialized to your economical needs. In addition to this, planets have been reclassified into 4 classes: Wet, Hot, Cold, Demon, with habitability for each class redesigned across all species opening up new strategic decisions for deciding when to expand or fight for control. Beyond the classes, each planet will fall into one of twenty-eight new sub-classes each with their own modifiers affecting planet bonuses. The entire galaxy generation system has also been reworked for more realistic planet placement and balanced distribution of planet types.
The update also includes a major overhaul to the Terran Empire. In addition to Mirror variants of all Federation ships, complete with Terran iconography, you will now be able to construct the crown jewel of the Terran Empire, the ISS Charon. A vast city-sized ship housing the Emperor’s throne room, bristling with vast arrays of weaponry to bring agony to your enemies! Federation and Terran Empires will now also gain access to unique science vessels with the ability to survey while also fielding weapons, creating powerful vessels to explore the depths of space.
ITMD also comes equipped with many quality of life changes. The AI has been completely reworked to operate with the economy updates introduced in this and the previous patch, to truly be a force to be reckoned with. Underestimate the AI at your peril! Ship speed has also been reworked to improve travel times across the galaxy, with a decrease in speed during combat as your ships manoeuvre to engage enemy fleets. All ships within the game have been rescaled to their in-universe sizes, giving you a true sense of the scale of fleet combat and how different ship classes interact.
As always, every new update to New Horizons also includes new events and story content – and ITMD is no exception. You can now meet the mysterious ‘Tin Man’ Gomtuu, and the Caretaker. Control will attempt to rid the universe of all life. War mini events will diversify your objectives beyond the standard war goals. This is just a small taste of what ITMD contains, alongside bug fixes, and huge amounts of new content to explore. We hope as always that you continue to enjoy!
