Was disappointed to see that the Doomsday machine never leaves the system it starts in. Not sure if this is intended behavior, a bug, or just an engine limitation, but it spawned inside an empire that had closed their borders to me, and I was hoping to see it go on a multi-system rampage... Instead it just sat idle after consuming everything in the system. Also, the ruined planets it leaves behind are missing localization.

I am currently playing as the Federation in the year 2254 and I got an event about a strange vessel or something like that appearing, starfleet is supposed to investigate. I did go to the system using the goto button but when I got the federation event I did go to another system. Now I don't remember what system it was in. The log is empty and there are no special projects to be found.

Does anyone know what this event could have been and where it could be found again?

I assume they conquered the planet from the Voth.

The Viidians don't have the power to take on and squish the Voth to take a planet in the beginning... or ever really unless they get the Borg to come in and roflstomp the Voth (as I did so as to keep the Voth from taking Viidian worlds) Not to mention unless I'm missing something they start with it.

Actually, here's an interesting query. Well, two actually.

First, is there a way to set it up so that other races are always hostile to Borg ships? Or can choose to be at least? I mean, it seemed kind of crazy how I could have my fleet of Spheres entering Viidian space and join them in defense of their space from a Voth attack. It seems to me that, at least assuming they both knew the Borg for what they are, they'd turn to engage them together.

EDIT: Also, forgot the second query (and an idea that popped into my head). I know talk of Subcomplexes has been made... I had a possible different idea for the Borg and all the worlds within their space they can't colonize.

Perhaps a Borg colony event that has a low chance of happening.

Also, with the sub-species thing coming soon, would it be possible to make it so that anytime the Borg assimilate a species, they get shifted into a sub-species of them?

No to both of the above.

We tried making Borg always hostile but it messes up their behaviour.

No to changing species to Borg itself for assimilated races too. Not needed with how the clothing changes work, and would break a bunch of things.

A direct list no.
But you can read through 00_prescripted_countries in \Steam\SteamApps\workshop\content\281990\688086068\newhorizons.zip\prescripted_countries and look at the flags. For United Earth it is
flags={ custom_start_screen starfleet_ent united_earth federation_founder alpha_beta_empire first_alien_life first_contact_event botf_major }
ftl=warp
Every race has this or a similar flag.

You won't encounter AI species on maps that are not flagged the same i.e. you won't see United Earth on the Delta Quadrant map.

Well, we have the quadrant indicator on the start notes for each species.

So, in prep for Machinery stuff today, figured it'd be cool to add a few new variants to the Borg prosthetics available to drones. Not a huge change, but expect a few more additions over the next few patchs:

Yeah, they were for the most part just thoughts.

Also, a curiosity, and maybe I misread or misinterpreted the tech, but are the Borg supposed to have tech that gives them access to deep space outpost stuff? Also, any plans to change the expansion tradition tree for the Borg? (unless Unimatrixes are meant to be the Deep space outpost equivalent)

Well, we have the quadrant indicator on the start notes for each species.

Yeah, in the race description there is both a difficulty measure and a statement of where they are starting out.

And also, that's pretty cool!~

As an aside, do the Borg eventually get destroyers? I've seen in the tech tree slots that are supposedly meant for destroyers but I haven't seen anything for a destroyer class, unless that's meant for something to be added later (like say maybe the Borg Pyramid from SFC 3)

There was something else I was going to ask, but for the life of me can't remember in the slightest. Maybe it'll come back up later. Oh! Not what I was thinking of, but in case I missed it, was there ever a response to the idea of Federation members petitioning to make colonies event thingy? It'd be especially cool for any of the races that are 'minor' and don't expand so when they join it's just their one world (and since I see so little migration in Fed games it would at least allow more options there.)

Also, for anyone else playing the Borg, I have good news!

Playing as the Borg is now something I have nailed down, and done so in part by sort of ignoring at least some prior advice. You don't need to build ANY additional probes... in fact, your first priority should be researching Sphere's and then building one. Then you can start getting your infrastructure going. Following that, you absolutely must, MUST research the tech that gives the Borg their regenerative hull things (can't remember it's name, but it's the Borg equivalent of shields). I also highly recommend installing the components that give extra hull points, because that has helped so much for my ships survivability.

And on a final note, I had the Planet Killer pop up in my space, really close to my Capital while I was finishing off the Talaxians. scared the shit out of me and made me pull my full fleet back. 4 diamonds, ten spheres and two probes (varied models for the spheres and diamonds) and had a total force power of about 30k.

I took no loses against the planet killer. Killed it and reaped the rewards with no loses. To say it has been the highlight of my playthrough so far is an understatement.

Now, onto something else that I just recalled having mentioned that monstrosity. In the Devore Imperium, I have found both a Science Nexus and the Sentry array megastructures. Are they just random spawns, meant to be there, or is there even tech to repair them? Because if they CAN be repaired, then I know who my next target is.

oh, and loved the Kazon civil war stuff. Was fun watching them beat on each other. Also, what's the button to take a political map pic of the galaxy, or is there one?

So, check Borg traditions in about an hour's time after the patch. We've added "Subcomplexes" which are Borg versions of Deep Space Stations. We've also added a Colony Deconstruction project that allows Borg to scoop up enemy planets, get minerals from their buildings and assimilate the pops.

Borg do not get Destroyers, they have their own ship sets.

Just to clarify, don't expect STNH games made on 1.6 Stellaris to work in 1.8!

If you play near the Borg but not the Borg (Devore, Krenim, or Zahl), you want to rush for Variant Destroyers and Cruisers. Cruisers for the beef, variant destroyers for the Heavy Torpedo load, follow the Ballistics path for Pulse Wave torpedoes for armour piercing.

Try and be the strongest of your three locals so the Borg pick on somoene else, then when their fleet leaves Unicomplex 01 jump it. Once you have a decent crusier/destroyer load, maybe some Battlecruisers, then start picking Unicomplex 01 apart after you stomped the fleet.

Trouble is by the time you've cannoned up to do that nobody in the DQ will be near capable of dealing with you.

That said, there's a bit of an issue with dismantling Unicomplex 01 at the moment, which is that the events for firing it don't happen unless all the Unimatrix Defence platforms are dead, and it was possible to capture and retain the hub and 3 wings for decades before doing that. Could possibly have kept the whole thing intact if I just left the Borg with one, keeping a single ship in the system prevents the AI rebuilding the spaceport over it so they'd be impotent forever.

You do need to resettle onto the wings before you purge the last drone though because they're in "enemy territory" and can't be recolonised..

Also, on the Delta Quadrant map it might be nice to make the dead zone bands a bit narrower. Even with tier 6 combat warp cores you can't cross them (Maybe extended fuel tanks would, I stacked 3 of those on my sciecne ships and they can get across), which means the map is basically three separate games going on at the same place but barely related to each other. Having the chokepoints is fine, but close them up a bit so that most warp cores can cross them from the midgame.

I know they get their own ship sets, it's just werid that Borg Spheres (which are cruisers) can use modules meant for destroyers. I personally think giving the Borg destroyers wouldn't be a problem if their kept between the probe and sphere in terms of strength (or they could be made as early game support units instead with weak firepower)

How exactly is the Borg colony deconstruction project thing work? And what if you have no empty tiles for pops, do they just die or do you leave them be?

Just to clarify, don't expect STNH games made on 1.6 Stellaris to work in 1.8!

A sad annoyance, since I was squishing the Devore and going to move onto the Vaudwaar then the Kobali, but I'll get over it so I can start over. Might actually play some regular Stellaris for a bit so any bugs and such can be ironed out.

In the download section of the library, it wasn't downloading workshop content because it was simply saying it was missing file permissions. I also had extra lines in my mod list in the launcher that were blacklined out, which was really weird.

I'm waiting for two other things to finish their updates before opening stellaris and checking and seeing if it's still having that issue.
