The Star Trek New Horizons team is proud to present our v0.6 update. We've worked hard to build upon the foundations we set with v0.5. We've added a large number of species portraits, starships and started work in earnest to populate the galaxy with the heroes, events and anomalies that add that Star Trek flavour we all crave.

We've also implemented the first iteration of our Era Change mechanic for Earth/Federation, Klingon Empire and Romulan Star Empire. Players will see starship design styles change as they progress through the tech tree.

Version 0.6 is of course not the end of this process, and we're sure version 0.7 will be even bigger still. But for now, why not jump on in and let us know what you think?

So as the Version 0.6 patch notes suggest, we're going to be adding in a number of humanoid species templates for the random primitive species that spawn to use. These aren't designed to have as many options as the major races, but should stop situations occurring where a Ferengi just happen to develop from a bronze age species in the Gamma Quadrant, or something.

Anyway, here's the latest species to make it into this bucket which you can expect to see in the v0.7 patch in two to three weeks along with a handful of their clothing and hair options:

hey a thought i just had-

can a list be posted of mods specifically NOT to be used with STNH active? like mods that are already integrated like civilian trade and larger/better known mods that just don't work well with STNH?

Essentially we don't recommend using any other mods with New Horizons.

Some of the UI changing mods might be fine, but as a rule we're changing an awful lot of stuff and even the smallest change from another mod could knock out a bunch of stuff.

I started a game and the first thing I'm noticing is that the game isn't running smoothly anymore. It stutters now. My pc is pretty bad but it wasn't like that before.

update: I turned everything else off (brwoser). set the game on low graphics and 0 mulitsampling and it is still stuttering. it hurts my eyes. In 0.5 I had it on medium and 4and it was running smoothly
Sorry, unplayable for me.

Yes it does! And I *really* want to hear your views on a certain event that happens for Klingons... :D

I really like the Challenge for Leadership events. It brings the Klingon Captains to life. But, I think that it is too frequent. Especially late game when you have many leaders. It pops up too much. With the frequency, all three of my Admirals now have the maimed trait.

Also, now my leaders never seem to gain experience due to "maimed" and "slow learners". I've fought two major wars (Gorn and Romulans) and one minor
(Orions) and destroyed several fleets and both the Admirals leading my fleets are stuck at level 2. This is despite multiple major battles.

I would suggest lowering the frequency and exempting science leaders. It really sucks to have your level 5 science leader challenged and killed for not being aggressive in combat. I mean, he's a scientist. He's not supposed to be fighting.

This post is not a critique. I love the new challenge events. I just think they need to be tweaked a bit.

Hmm, so they're on a 120 month mean time to happen... maybe if we increase that to 240 months?

I'll definitely do something about maimed being too punishing. Maybe make the XP loss about a third of what it currently is, but use the trait to make subsequent challenges more... lethal.

I'm also going to improve the event by spawning a replacement leader if the XO wins.

I kind of wish it was possible if when forming the Federation, it can become a whole new Civ/Empire that we control. :(

Oh well, glad to see update 0.6 though, and I kind of hope one day we get the option to let players if they want to use the new Kelvin timeline versions of the TOS era ships.

So does one just form a "federation" or is there something that happens to make it actually one nation?

In 0.6 you can use the vanilla Federation mechanics. In 0.7 we'll have finished an event that creates The Federation in some form.

In our internal 0.7 branch at the moment it works like this for single player games:

1) All colonies get ceded to the Human player
2) The AI countries become a new subject type of "Member World" to the Human player
3) All countries get the same map colour
4) All countries get the Starfleet ship set

It's a tricky area really, especially since I think we're all pretty confident that Federations are something that Paradox will improve upon in the next few patches. For 0.7 we want to get something *functional*.
