Fifteen months ago, the first publicly available version of ST: New Horizons was made available for download on the Steam Workshop. Since then the mod has grown in scale and scope, with regular updates.

Today we're proud to announce the release of the latest version of ST: New Horizons - Assimilation, which brings the mod out of "Alpha" and into a new "Beta" period. We feel the move to Beta marks a significant transition in quality and features. The Assimilation update adds a number of much requested features to the mod, most importantly the ability to play as the Borg with a complete ship set, unique mechanics and more.

In addition, we have added the foundations of a Mirror Universe scenario, several new maps including a love letter to the old Birth of the Federation game, the Vidiian species with the Phage to contend with, a completely revamped tech tree, new weapons, revised ship roles, updated ship models, additional voice acting, and significant localisation updates.

The ST: New Horizons - Assimilation update marks the start of an exciting period for the mod. Expect to see more updates throughout the year as we continue to build upon this strong foundation.

Live long and prosper.
The ST: New Horizons team.

With the new release I have to say that it's incredible the consistently high quality and quantity of work you guys put out, I don't want to sound like some kind of gushing sycophant but out of all the mods/mod teams I've followed over the years I think I can say with certainty that yours might be one of the best.

This really is an amazing mod. A lot of work has gone into it and it really shows.

----

I'm still new to Stellaris, and I've got a quick question about the mod: when I launch Stellaris I see a list of mods, so should I select both ST:NH and the ST:NH Content Submod or just the submod?

Thanks so much for the new release, great work!

Just wondering if the 2.1 million fleet cap overflow bug is still active? Once you go over that your fleet strength goes down to pathetic (-2 million) and the AI views that as actionable and will DOW you, worse it will attack you with small ship stacks thinking it can just walk over your fleet.

Its been a while since I played STNH but had an epic game going that was wrecked due to that bug. I realize it is a vanilla bug, its just more likely to happen in STNH. I reported it back then, but not sure if there was anything that could be done about it.

Hey guys. Bit of a problem here. Starting a new game i cannot select certain races.

Anything from the Klingon Empire down.

This includes Klingon, Cardassian, Borg, Andorian, Vulcan and Tamarian.

Everything above those seems to work fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Actually, Josun, I specifically said earlier that we are going to experiment with pop growth, but that if and when we make any changes to growth, it would be due to gameplay consideration, not a doomed-to-fail attempt to make pop units 'realistic'.

I had forgotten the exact wording admittedly, but I had gathered that it wouldn't probably be anything huge or dramatic. or it at least came across that way.

Query- is it up to date on the current version of vanilla, or does it need to remain at... 1.6.2 I think?

I am playing even with the Bradbury Beta 1.7.x
Started a new game, until now no problem ...
Apart from not able to use the mouse in the starting menu, have to use shortkeys !

So, this is either a bug for the Borg only, or this could end up being a bug for other things (or maybe this is intentional...)

Playing as Borg, build a second starbase/shipyard in the other Unitmatrix unit. Ship capacity actually DROPPED rather then going up, even though when I upgraded the one in the main Unimatrix unit it went up. Went from 32 to 24 ship capacity.

Okay, messed around as the Borg for about 45 minutes, so this might not be very useful as an initial review. Tomorrow when I'm off I'll take a second, more serious stab at them, however I can already tell playing as them is probably going to be... both interesting... and HIGHLY frustrating. It took me a moment for example to realize the Sphere was a cruiser rather then a destroyer, though it was certainly helpful in dealing with some pirate drones that popped up.

I get the impression though that playing as the Borg is meant to be a very long and slow build up. Saving up the resources for just expanding the Unimatrix complex will still take time, even if you do end up using the natural resources in worlds around you. Since the Borg can't colonize (even if they still have Borg planet habitability and habitability for other worlds... which, admittedly, it's also silly since the Borg DID have worlds they inhabited in Trek Canon and non-canon) you basically have to horde vast quantities to build another Unimatrix complex, let alone expand your main one.

The Borg do have the advantage that their starting weapons and ships are tougher- just looking at the Fleet Strength of the starting force, your almost strong enough to take on some of the early annoying enemies like mining drones and crystals and what not, and expanding to at most a total of five or six probes should be enough (be prepared though to have to replace them- they still can die easily. Even with a Sphere supporting four probes against four pirate borg I still lost a probe. A perhaps better plan would have been to break it into two fleets, have the sphere engage first and draw fire, then have the probes swoop in to engage.

They do research the early techs quickly though, so that at least is good.

Looking forward to figuring out some more of this stuff in the game.

I am curious- for the Mirror universe thing (don't have time to try it out tonight) will United Earth become the Terran Empire in the game start, or does it still end up as United Earth just militaristic?

Looking forward to messing around more with this new Beta! Loved the Borg UI too!

So, this might be inane, but I can't help but to point it out. The flavor text for the Assimilators Ethis for the Borg, Janeway didn't actually say that, Jean-Luc Picard said it in his log and Janeway was reading that log.
